Fabricate transmission tunnel
R.D.F. replied to R.D.F.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Joe the Ace hardware store by me has K&S brass in .016". By the way I know you come from a different country and L.I. is pronounced "Long guy land" Dave that's a good idea also. My question is: When you use styrene how would you form a funnel shape so you can make the forward parts of the tunnel area ? Would you hold it in hot water, take it out, try to roll it and keep doing that till you have made the shape ? -
I'm another one to say one word.....WOW!

Fabricate transmission tunnel

I had tried .040" styrene heated and bent around an X-Acto handle but that didn't work out. Tried rolling card stock and that found its way into the dumpster also. I found some thin .025 plastic. Going to use the hot water idea to make the driveshaft area, or attempt it. If that fails I do have a kit to chop out the tunnel section. Really want to fabricate it if I can. -
I'm starting to work on a Revell 41 Willys street rod. I cut the console out and am hitting a roadblock as to fabricate the tunnel. Sorry don't know how to resize the picture Here is a picture of what I'm looking to build.

Thanks Tom for your advice. I guess there is a place for both paints when you do a build. -
Testors Acrylic bottle paint

James what is your trick to brushing ? I can stir up the paint really good and it's still watery. -
That does look good. Looks like a modified AMX.

Testors Acrylic bottle paint
R.D.F. replied to R.D.F.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I just looked at bottle I just bought and the label said flammable. On the one label that gives the volume of the bottle at the top printer on a small red line it says enamel. The other paints I have I bought years ago in a set that were all Acrylic. I bought the new paint at Michaels. -
I'm like some other people here getting back into model building. I'm seeing the same problem like others where the Testors is very watery when using a brush. Is there another brand that might be thicker? I guess the days of enamel paint is long gone.

Never saw a poster but did see the truck in real life. It was great back in the day when you could stand around a car/truck close in the pits and take pictures, even put your hands on it if you were lucky. By the way, Welcome.

Thank you all for the welcome.

Good to know, Blue Point isn't far from me.

Hi Getting back into modeling after a lot, I mean a lot of years. Being a mechanic my whole working life and now retired without a shop to work on the real stuff I'm going to start working on the small stuff again. It was the small stuff that got me interested in working on the real stuff. Is the word stuff to repetitive ? Right now looking to work on a 41 Willys kit and in a sort of "dilemma" where I want to tub it and do away with the I beam front suspension. It's the Revell gasser kit. Bought two kits to see what would work, Monogram Camaro Pro Stock and the AMT 66 Nova Pro Street. Built real stuff (there's that word again) where I did fabricate, cut and weld things, so cutting up styrene isn't a problem for me. Looking forward to finding possible solutions to my build on this forum. Thanks

Back half 41 Willys question
R.D.F. replied to R.D.F.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Looking at it right now. Would save me some time. Would have to figure out maybe wheels and tires. Thanks I can't find it in my Ebay account but I believe I bought a Hemi engine from this seller. -

Back half 41 Willys question

Yes that would be the easier way but I have an old gasser kit I'm looking to resurrect. I might even see if I can use the front steering from a Nascar kit I have. Those instructions do give me an idea to help fabricate a better Willys frame than in the gasser kit. -
Hi I bought a AMT 66 Nova Pro Street kit and want to back half a Revell 41 Willys gasser. I see where I should cut off the rear floor pan from the Nova but it looks like I'm going to have to add styrene to the back of it to make the round contour to fit the Willys body. Or am I overthinking the wheel on this? Thanks

Just tried the search box to look for an answer. When I type in white glue, all that comes up is my discussions that I started about it.
