  1. Its been a while since I last updated this but I have been working on it. Still no sign of my fiber cable so will now need to look at sourcing from somewhere else. In the mean time, I have been making some more buildings and working on the ship itself. Starting with the ship, I have penciled in the panel lines using a 0.03mm mechanical pencil and a cut up credit card. I'm debating whether or not to take some of them back but I quite like it as is. And finally, a rough layout of the taller buildings for the base. I am waiting on some silicone molding stuff to arrive this coming Tuesday as I want to cast some of the newer pieces. Once that's done, I can start finishing off these structures and getting them detailed ready for lighting and painting Well, that's it for now, but will be back again soon. As always, thanks for stopping in and having a look Si
  2. Andys Hobby HQ just released a video on it: Looks pretty good!
  3. thank you guys for the kind comments
  4. Thanks everyone for your really kind comments. I really like this colour combo to. I did take some liberties here and there with the interior to personalize it a little bit. I f I were to own a GT, this would be the colour I'd choose for sure.
  5. hey everyone It's been a while since I last completed a car, so whilst waiting for more Fiber Optic to arrive, I thought I'd build this Tamiya Ford GT I was never a big fan of this car until I saw this one in a YouTube video set in Dubai about rare cars on offer. It really stood out from the usual blue ones you see a lot of online. I used the Hobby Design AM set with it. Painted in Zero Paints Graphite and Tamiya Red and utilizing the black stripes that came with the kit, I ended up with the below subject. I am really happy with how it came out and it was my first time using SMS 2K clear. Thanks to this site and YT, my car finishes are coming out way better than they used to! Anyways, thanks for stopping in and having a look. Any and all critique is welcomed as you can only get better from it
  6. LOL, thanks guys. Yeah, its on the RPF and a couple more sites. I don't do Facebook or Reddit though
  7. Paint arrived this morning, and now the misted base colour is now on. Couple of spots to add more on but yeah, am happy with how it looks. I'll add a clear coat, wash it and then pencil in some lines where needed
  8. thanks David! I made a start on the endless task of threading fibers last night. Never thought I'd get to this stage This'll be fun....not
  9. all masking done and now waiting on delivery of more paint so I can get the final coat on her:
  10. looks pretty good to me! Nothing wrong with your figure painting either. I'm also trying to learn how to paint figures as I genuinely suck at them. I read a good tip which was to spray the figure black from the underside (toe to head) and white looking down (Head to toe) then paint the figures using a very thinned down paint mix and dry brushing. I'm finding I am getting better results this way
  11. Thanks David Yeah mate, started this in Aug of 2018 - my longest ever project so far. When I started it, I thought I'd add just a few details and some lights (how hard could it be??), yet here we are nearly 5 years on. Still, despite the time, its been fun for the most part. Am nearly done with the black masking - just a quarter left to do which wont take long. First gray should be down this weekend and all being well, the whole thing painted in 2 weeks
  12. Sing it with me: "ooh oh, we're half way there...."
  13. thank you Dale Funnily enough, I picked this up again last night and spent 4 hours masking the black on a quarter of the bottom hull section, with more to be done tonight. I'll update this again once I have finished the painting of the bottom hull which should be in a couple of weeks (I hope). Then comes the fun part: adding the fiber threads
  14. hey thanks Mike - I really appreciate the kind post of encouragement. I've always maintained that I will finish it and nothings changed on that front. I keep looking at it in the back room and thinking to myself 'just get it done', but then I remember all that masking and find myself quietly shrinking away from it And then I still have the base and lighting to do yet - which are mammoth tasks in themselves! I think my imagination is a lot bigger than my resolve at times
  15. thanks Joe! Sorry for my late reply - haven't been online much these days and haven't touched a model for a few weeks now, let alone this one. Severe lack of enthusiasm for building
  16. Thanks David and Lee I have not touched this since the last update as I have been working on my scratch building itch which has been there since 2016. I think I'm coming to the point of getting bored of general modelling and more interested in scratch building something of my own design. Don't get me wrong, I will finish this but I need to scratch that itch - literally
  17. Nice one Ismael! So, what scheme you going to paint it? Partisan? Something of your own creation? Which ever, will be watching!
  18. thank you guys - much appreciated. Definitely build one if you want something that has no wings or wheels and is a tad left of center Arkhitek Colonizer
  19. thanks guys - I'm glad you can appreciate the difference in subject matter Dennis, if you haven't seen it, I have a rather long and on going Star Destroyer build in the WIP section which could keep you entertained for 5 minutes. That's complicated - where as this is nice and simple - like me
  20. Well, some of you might guess, but a lot of people won't! This is my last build for the year and my most fun one. Completely out of the box with kit supplied lighting and so on. The only thing it didn't do was build itself The kits is quite basic at it's core, but highly detailed. Kind of in the same vein as Bandai in terms of how it goes together (not a drop of glue required). Ingenious lighting system which is a tad tricky to get to in certain areas, and the center drive thing with the orange light was quite confusing initially, but I got there in the end All painted in Gunze and Tamiya metallics. The kit says paint it (yawwwwwn) grey but there was no way in hell I was doing that. I decided I would go for a nod to Gundam here and try something a little different. I like it myself and so does my son who is insisting he gets it when I die. Talk about planning ahead..... geez Enough words, time to give you what you came here for - pics: Even the stand lights up! Well, that's all the pics. I hope they brought a small sliver of enjoyment or inspiration to your day. I had a lot of fun with this one and if you're in the market for a subject that will turn some heads, I would suggest getting this kit. You don't even need to know a single thing about electronics to make it look good as its all taken care of for you As always, thanks for stopping by and having a look Si
  21. thanks Steve. As you'll see in a sec, it worked out nicely. Well, so far so good. I need to add some more filter to the roof panels which I will do over the next day or so to bring them into line with the main body. I'll let you be the judge on whether or not the masking was worth it Obviously, there is still a clear coat and wash to go but yeah, am happy with how its looking Now to do the bottom part!
  22. Well, the moment of truth is here and she has been unmasked. As feared, there is some paint lift but its fixable where needed. Next pics will be the final base coat to bring it all down a notch or 4
  23. Well, I see I have forgotten to update this thread but a fair amount has happened since the black was laid down. That and the dark gray panels have been masked and now for the next and final shade of gray before the base coat goes down. I'm noticing that some of the paint is lifting which is not a good sign. This may end up being a total waste of time. We shall see Well, that's where she's at. Still a long way to go yet, but I'm getting somewhere Thanks for your patience and indulging me with this never ending build (4 years now!) Si
  24. hey Lou Yeah mate, I'll take some build photos when I get to it - which won't be for a while yet though as I have a few other things to finish first (like most of us )
  25. hey everyone This arrived in the mail this morning, so I thought I'd show you what you get in the small, expensive but packed box. I generally don't spend much on models if I can but this appeared on their website and I had to buy it. I personally love Alpha kits and believe they are worth every dollar. Not only are Alpha the only manufacturer that produces subjects that I like, but the quality is second to none in the field of resin kits. This is - IMO - the most detailed kit they've come out with yet. I like that they have also included a comprehensive carbon fiber decal sheet - so no more self made templates! The box art is a massive improvement on their previous offerings I might add. There are of course more parts, but I thought I'd share some of the highlights of the contents. I love how the seats are made up of multiple parts - like Tamiya did with the Senna - but this is just better looking (IMO) and that the under tray has detail to it (not that I ever flip my builds over to look at the bottom - but nice to know it's there). It's not a cheap kit by any means - this cost me $300AU including shipping and everyone has their own opinion of what's worth it to them. I really like this kit and hope Alpha come out with a spider version. If they do, I'll have to start saving my pennies now (and prepare a kidney) Thanks for looking Simon
