68 Chevelle SS. My first build!!!
oPROJECTMAYHEMo replied to oPROJECTMAYHEMo's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yes I did it because the wire forms dont seem to be holding the shell very well against the doors. This was the only way I could get it to sit right. -
So first off I'd like to thank the guys that have given me advice in my other topics regarding equipment etc.. I went for a timber tech compressor with tank and an iwata neo airbrush. So far it's been fantastic. I took the leap and invested in an airbrush and compressor a few days ago and have started on spraying a few parts, mainly the shell of the car. I wasnt too keen on the black of red suggestion the kit suggested to paint it so I mixed my own and I am going to go with the black stripes provided. All other pieces are primed so should be able to move along quickly now.

Looking forward to see where this goes. -
That is a very nice car. You can tell the period it is from just from the lines and design.

Nice color choice. This is a kit I would like to have a go at too.

I will be keeping an eye on this, wouldnt mind having a go myself. Nice choice of color by the way.

Very nice, I am a huge Skyline fan. I've been toying with the idea of buying myself a real R34.

So taking into account your comments and a little bit more research about compressors with tanks I think i have found what I may be going for. Compressor - https://www.amazon.co.uk/TC90T-Airbrush-Compressor-Twin-Piston/dp/B06XDRX7YY/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=royal+max+compressor&qid=1578644986&sr=8-2 Airbrush - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006MTQXPE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A356452I7XTSBD&psc=1 Hose - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07CHK6GK6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A3FZY5DZQUIYZ3&psc=1 Any one know is these cleaning stations are worth having? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00RVZG4X4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A30MR9F6WLGMZ0&psc=1 I have read some really good things about the Paasche airbrushes but some of the reviews for the suppliers of this over here have given pretty bad reviews about things breaking and also not getting what was advertised.

Thank you for your detailed response and taking the time to look in to this for me. Question RE: compressors with tanks and this might be a silly question. Do I have to replace or refill the tanks? if so, how? I have googles it and there isnt much info on it which makes me think im asking a stupid question.

Hi Guys, I am about to purchase an airbrush and compressor to do the painting on my models. I have narrowed it down to a few options but I am leaning towards the Iwata Neo Airbrush and also Iwata Silver Jet compressor. Just wondered is anyone has any experience with either of these two bits of kit and their thoughts? Thank you in advance.

Liking this! I have seen a old Japanese De Tomaso Pantera kit for sale on eBay but they want like £100 for it. Tempted to get it as I love the Pantera.

Tamiya Pennzoil Nissan Skyline R34
oPROJECTMAYHEMo replied to lghtngyello03's topic in WIP: Model Cars
You are doing a great job. Looking forward to seeing the it finished. Thats a good call, thank you. I was thinking of building a sort of open open with no front and top to sit things in whilst i spray them, so i could put the stand in there. -
Thank you all for your comments and advice. Just a couple more questions. For the people that do add a clear coat to the exteriors - would you apply decals like stripes first and then apply a clear coat? I am about to start gluing my first pieces , the engine and would like to know if there is a recommended filler to apply to the seams to then sand down to make it look like one piece. I have the Tamiya cement and dont know if this will just stick them together or if it will fill the seams too. Thank you in advance

Please could you tell me what the name of the stand you have this resting on is called please? Skyline is my favorite modern day car and this is a kit i would love to make. -
Hi everyone, I'm Blake from Sheffield in England. I have been thinking about getting into model car making for about 18 months but my wife fell pregnant and all of my free time went out the window. I finally have some free time to myself on an evening now our daughter is getting older so I went and bought a Revell kit for the Chevelle SS. I have started by separating all of the pieces and sanding them down and have about half done so far. My plans are to buy a airbrush and compressor to paint them and touch up the detail work with paint brushes. Questions I have are 1. Instructions in the kit recommend to wash the unpainted parts before gluing and painting - is this really necessary? 2. I was looking at the decal instructions and there are some that it says have to be submerged in water first - is this accurate? seems like it would effect its ability to stick to the surface. 3. Is it recommended to use a primer before painting? If yes, does this count for all parts? 4. Is it recommended to use a clear coat on the body after painting? 5. enamel or acrylic paints? which is best? Apologies if some of these seem silly questions, i just want to make sure i am doing it right as i want to do a quality job on it. If all goes well then I will be making these on a regular basis and can post them on the other parts of this forum. Thank you in advance.
