Is the White Freightliner "SD" version made by AMT in '72 a copy of a"special order" tractor made exclusively for Consolitaded Freightways: precise length of frame & day cab dimensions, specialy adapted for their "pup" twin trailers, or was this single drive model available to all truck fleets with this frame & cab mesures? Heard many years ago that this specfic model was a 6 wheeler CF exclusivity

Beautiful, nice color, this Tamiya kit is surely a real gem, easy to assemble & fantastic looking. .....Wish my 1/12 Nichimo Europa (I got started in '97!) in my stack was as nice in the assembly fitting!!!
-
Beautiful piece. From what I read the Profil24 kits are not easy to go thru: no Studio27 or Factory Hiro quality stuff, how would you rate the assembly & fitting of the kit, pretty average... demanding a lot of work to get the meuseum piece you made?

Pretty good question...My kit as silver body & very light gray hood/fender skirts!!!! different source for sure... some parts comes from other plants (Poland)? As anyone made or seen that kit in an "all" plastic version in Monogram box? Many "Metal" body kits of the 70's where later made with plastic bodies in early 80's: MG-TC, 53 Vette, 56 T-Bird, to name a few, but never saw the XK120 with plastic body in Mono box....was the "all" plastic body conversion made by Revell AG???

.....Green face???

Another review of a kit we don't see often. A few modelers may remember that Monogram made this great kit back in 1979 with a......Metal body! go figure! (Never seen this one with plastic body in Monogram box!), odd that this kit had only "one run" in Monogram lineup until the early 80's, then the kit vanished until Revell germany reboxed it back in 1994 & again recently. If i'm not mistaking this is still after nearly 30 years the only 1/24 full detail plastic kit of this car. Siver body, Light, Light. Light grey!, clear, chrome parts, approx 78 parts. Monogram did a fantastic job with the one piece body with opening hinged hood: BEAUTIFUL! Monogram even added extras: closed top with correct period "tacked" side & back windows, front winshield frame with 2 piece glass (no wipers!!!) or "twin" racing type clear deflectors, even 2 rear fender skirts are included....neet looking! all small chrome acces lights/grill/bumpers on body are seperate chrome plated parts + 2 clear headlight lenses. The inline 6 block/head & transmision is a 10 pieces affaire, typical Monogram , easy to assemble & simple accuracy: fan, twin valve covers & intake man/twin cabs are plated, engine block/trans is a 2 half parts assembly, with nicely engraved startor, fuel pump oil filter & finned trans box. Seperate top engine center plug cover, side exhaust manifolds, fan belt/pullies & generator complete this simple but nice looking engine. Frame with molded in gas tank is nicely detailed, as seperate rear one piece: differential/drive shaft/susp leafs...even dual small brake lines with cylinders are present on the piece. Front suspension consist in a one piece: lower "A" arms/front stabilizer bar/twin torsion bars molded to a hefty front frame cross member. Seperate muffler, radiator, are also present. Tires are Monogram tall skinnies with snapin Dunlop white walls, wheels are a bit "flat" looking & back plates are pretty basic, but with center engraved chrome plated hubs the completed wheels looks OK. The interior consist of a correct one piece patterned seats/ trans tunnel/floor piece, 2 seperate & nicely engraved side panels that make the leight of the model; one piece part: engine bay/door/trunk side panels. Seperate shifter, hand brake lever, dash mirror, firewall top section, dash with center gauges/grab bar , steering/horn hub & column complet the interior. Monogram people gives you the choice of right or left side steering wheel: pedals are molded on each side of lower part of upper firewall part, remove one set when your choice is made...nice touch!!! decal sheet consist of 5 dash gauges, hood crest & 2 sets of "oversized 1/16 scale???" vintage euro plates. Any MC forum members made the XK120 kit, any pix? never seen that kit made up, even in contests. Revell AG side box photos only shows sections of kit!!! from what I see looks like a winner!

Astro 95 are to small in diameter for Uniroyal tires: try the front spokes from Am't's Diamond Reo or Autocar Dump Truck will fit perfectly.............Maybe ex IMC Lindberg Dodge L700, these look huge on the small L700! -

The front ones, the same rear spokes (not plated) are also available in the White Road Boss, Diamond Reo, Western Star & Autocar Dump truck all with those nice Uniroyal tires, the font sloted ones only in the A64B?...like you say Amt's quirks! Extremly rare indeed is the 1971 Turbine engine Astro 95...think the parts section for the Turbine Option engine on mold was "Retooled-Erase from mold?"! OR it's roting somewear in Troy near former AMT plant!, OR an Ex AMT employe got it in some dusty box in garage!..............personally think that the chances of getting a Turbine engine Astro95 are very, very slim. Never seen the Turbine stuff in later Matchbox, ERTL, & recent RC2 reissues of the Astro95. The Titan90 T509 was made in 1970, from my point of view, Chevy (like Ford) was a more "popular brand name" for AMT's main buyers.... "kids" back then, that's probably why the Titan90 came first ....with NO Turbine engine option, after few investement in logo & Turbine engine (tree) tooling came the 1971 the T510 Astro95. Where is the "Turbine" section of the Astro95 mold....Mystery since the mid 70's -

Odd that the nice chromed 5 slots wheels where only available in this tractor kit. Turbine engine optional parts in Astro 95 still existing? Read that all the "Turbine" parts of the original 1971 edition, where "removed" when the Astro95 & (Titan90) kits where "updated" in 1976. -

Excellent list, think I'll print it! -
The Monogram kit is way better, even if curbside. Just compared my "dry" assembled Monogram 308 kit project with a completed 308 Revell US one, looks already better...no paint!!! The Revell US 308GTB in 1/25 scale was made as a "full" detail kit back in 1979, was modified as Magnum P.I. version: GTS with removable roof in 1982, the kit as a bad body :proportions are not as good as the monogram kit + the "real" rubber tires are way too "beefy" & oversize toy looking, interior & engine are passable, fitting of parts is not perfect, no wonder Revell AG took the Monogram 308 kit.

Nice reboxed kit of the original Ex Monogram curbside 1/24 1980 kit, reissued in the 90's by Monogram & Revell Germany, approx 44 parts , white, clear. Reissued for the 30th of the 308 (1976)......nice boxart! The body proportions looks good, but slighty a bit "narrow" in width, the rear fender section is also a bit too short at the end. Seperate lower front & rear (with molded in bumper) body valences & one piece front bumper/grille unit , seperate top engine cooling vents panel, seperate driver door mirror......molded in "thin" wippers. Interior is the strong point, one piece interior tub with molded center console, nicely detailed seperate door panels, dash, steering wheel, correct patern seats & shifter. The "textured" platform is as expected pretty basic, minimal engraved details: "A" arms, engine oil pan, rear muffler box with seperate twin exhaust tips & 2 plastic axles/4 "flat"back plates. Wheels are nicely detailed, tires are the generic Monogram Michelin TRX's, the diameter size looks perfect but slighltly narrow tread. Clear parts includes "one piece": windshield, side 3/4 & back windows, 4 rear lights & 2 front corner lights. Nice decal sheet made by excellent Cartograph, plates for various Euro countries, ferrari logos: body/wheels/steering & dash gauges, nice touch from Revell AG. No "Chrome plate" of wheels, shiffter & twin exhaust tips as Monogram did. A simple "dry" assembly of this simple kit gives an idea of what to expect...not bad at all

The A64B is Surely a welcome kit after over 25 years of absence: Think the last year this kit was available was in 1978 0r 79! ...Engine color you say! can't go wrong with Cummins Beige (tan) on amt's NTC350. -
70's Detroit Diesel Green?
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks to all for your inputs, really appreciate it, GREAT forum. Only ONE bugging question left......what color should be the DD engine in amt's Pete 359 (T500) & 352 DD Green? or White? when a tractor was bought brand "new" in 1969-70, guess later engine overhaul in some Petes did get a "green" 8V71's. ...Think I'll stick to AMT's tractor kits with the good'ol Cummins NTC350, LESS ASSLE FOR COLORS, one color fits all Thanks again. -
70's Detroit Diesel Green?
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
We learn every day! ....so different colors where used at the DD plants for V8's: green for the 71 series & silver for 92T series, always tough that all series V8 DD engine of the 70's early 80's where painted green, no matter what truck manufacturer got them. meaning that the following amt's engines should be painted: - 8V-71 in Amt's Pete 359 T500 & 352... so white engine on side artbox is not an "artistic" rendering.... ALL the ones shipped to Peterbilt plants where painted White back in late 60'-70's? - 8V-71 in Astro 95/Titan kits..... Green? - 8V-92T in Amt's Kenworth Aerodyne K100 & GMC General/Bison.....Silver? ..........Remember painting guide in ERTL International Transtar Eagle II said the 8V DD engine should be painted RED....got me confused back then, but now I know it was not a print error -

70's Detroit Diesel Green?
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The "alpine green" spray can I got from parts dept at DD service center was the only green shade available the parts clerk told me, at least a this service center...... was wondering if a"lighter" shade of DD green was still available in can...did hold the painting of 3 amt's engines to be sure. Was "alpine green" a "real" color used by DD in the 70's-80's to paint their engines? ........ALL of the pix I see of 8V71's or 8V92T are very light "pastel" green.
