  1. Revell's AG 956, is more probably the Ex Protar Rothmans version 1/24 kit of the 80's with new Jagermeister decals. not a bad kit, but Tamiya's 956 is a bit better.............can't go wrong with Tamiya's 935 1/12 kit, still, after nearly 30 years, the best 935 all plastic kit ever
  2. Was wondering if the upcoming AW reissue of AMT's Chevy Titan 90 will be the original 1970 T509 version as shown on the AW website or the later retooled T529 blue edition of mid 70's , anyone has any leads
  3. Any fine MCM forum member could tell me: What color sould be painted the under body (interior) of a late 60's-70's FunnyCar (fiberglass fliping) body: ext body color, black, gray shades? what was the most common under finish back then
  4. That's a beauty , as mention what are the pros & cons of the kit...box stock? .................Gilles last ride machine back in '82
  5. Tought British modeler Taylor built all the kits for box & catalog pictures when Matcbox UK took over AMT a bit later in time frame, if you look at the built ups from 1980 up some truck kits are slightly different in the looks then the 70's built ups: Freightliner COE, Pete 352, Alaskan KW. A few of Taylor work was kept for box pix when ERTL took over in 1983-84, then again who built the 1984 & up amt truck kit when ERTL took over, Taylor or US builder? .............Legendary Jensen never made a "star"truck kit for a boxtop for AMT, MPC, or ERTL in the 70's
  6. Was wondering who was the builder of AMT truck & trailer kits apearing on AMT picture boxes from mid to late 70's: Branch Road Boss (a real beauty), Freightliner Transcon/Coors, KW Alaskan, Western Star GP, Beer Big Rig sets, to name these Jensen? Doty? Anderson? Boyd? Anyone knows if these truck & trailer models are still in one piece today
  7. Former Japanese Gakken kit of the 60's, built that one in Entex box, many years ago, remember was not the best, art box on actual Minicraft box is pretty nice but the kit is something else when finished....Don't expect a 1/20 museum piece here! Body proportions are really, really bad, wheels are toy looking, tires look a bit oversized & beefy, engine/frame accuracy & details are pretty basic...former "motorized" car kit, interior is probably the best point of the kit with the clear bubble top (top design is not exact but) working features are the opening hood... better kept closed!!! doors & steerable font wheels. This kit demands a lot of work & patience to make it look right If you want a first generation Mako plastic model, choose AMT's excellent Promo/Snap curbside 1/25 kit, a simple perfectly design & much better looking kit
  8. The 1967 Honda RA273 F1 kit was the first Tamiya 1/12 F1 kit, introduced back in the fall of '69....12 box back then!!!!! up until the early 90's the legendary Tamiya 1/12 F1 series was the top in the 70's-80's. Could recomend all of the 1/12 F1 kits, but think a few are more worthwile. In the"Old" 1/12 F1 kits these are the ones I recommend (many reissued in the 90's-00's): -the very nice 1970 Ferari 312B -1968 Matra MS 11, nice kit of a rare F1 subject. -1970 Tyrell F1 -the very nice 1972 Lotus 72D JPS -the very nice 1975 Brabham BT 44B .......... .............(quite rare & expensive....tough to get!) -1974 Yardley McLaren M23......................................(also rare & expensive &...also tough to find). -1977 Lotus JPS MKIII -1979 Ferrari 312T4 one of Tamiya's landmark F1 kit for quite a time, beautiful........now reboxed with photoetched -1979 Renault RE 20 The last big 1/12 F1 kits where made in the early 90's also very, very, very nice 1/12 kits, assembly fitting is as mention a bit better then the 70's kits plus the level of accuracy & details of parts was push to the limits of what was feasable back in the early 90's, nice museum pieces...... but the 90's-00's F1 look....not my type -1990 Ferrari F190 -1991 Mclaren MP4 Honda -1992 Williams FW14B
  9. Gone forever: 48 Ford, GT40. Lola T70 & other ex IMC/Testors molds mention are lost in a warehouse in Japan? Was told that the Union Ex IMC car kits was a run made for Union model co back in the mid 80's, a bit like Heller did with a few of their car kits with Union at the same time (the 48 Ford was still available in Testors Catalog in 1987....Union also had the same IMC kit in it's Memorial collection series, bought it, around 1985) . Can see that a few mention ex IMC/Testors car molds are missing to the reissue call since the 90's... total vanising in the last 20+ years! When Linberg did reissue a few ex IMC kits back in early 90's tought we would see the 2:GT40, Lola T70, etc, but nothing ....long mystery indeed
  10. Lindberg made many toy looking & "motorized" simplified car kits in the 60's-70's most where definitely not top notch plastic masterpieces, but a few kits where not bad. The 90's to today's 1/25 car kits are very nice, here's the one I recommend in 2008 catalog. Very good 30'S Bugatti Royale....very nice classic kit! , 29' Mercedes SSK: both kits made by Lindberg (circa 1973). 64 dodges, 53 Fords, F150 4x4, Dakota PU, all recent Mopar muscle cars/Concepts, Chrysler Atlantic & Ford crown snaps, those are very nice & accurate 90's-00 kits. The BIG ones 1/8 BIg T & Exterminator drag both issued in 1965, 1/32 60's ALF pumper simple but nice looking kit....rear "front" wheels??????all those are Lindberg molds. 34 Ford PU (ex Amt).....Classic 60's Amt kit! 40 Ford Coupe (ex Palmer)...Yes Palmer's best 1/25 car kit ever! 90's Taylor/Boyd street rod '37 Fords trio, ex Testors. Really nice kits. Red Wagon & L700 Dodges including flatbed & box trailer (former IMC molds circa 1969-70)...fitting issues but nice kits! DO NOT TOUCH!!!! The really poor: bad proportions, basic/innacurate details, toy like stuff: ex Pyro 1/25 classic trio: Cord 812 (Bad, bad!) 48 Continental (bad!) 35 Auburn (patient?) ex Palmer 1/25 '71 Mustang & '72 Challenger kits....Palmer annual toy looking kits! Lindberg 60's hot rod kits: 25 T, 32-34 Ford PU kits, simple & not accurate like most 60's 1/25/32 Lindberg hot rod kit series. Lindberg 1/12 Fiat Topolino, frame not bad, half body...1/12????, could someone tell me what kind of V8 engine is that??? The 1/32 30's-40's car series are former Pyro kits of the 60's, these are mostly basic detailed kits, the look is not bad but some could be better, no plated parts. The nice 32 Lincoln is slightly a bit more detailed. ...No ex IMC Ford GT40, Lola T70, Chapparal, 60'sVW Beetle, sure be nice to see those after nearly 30 years of vanishing
  11. Really nice builds, of "old stuff" we don't see often. Johan's classic car kits where surely amazing (a bit of fitting problems here & there) but nice & very accurate pieces anyways. The Town Car is a real beauty. Monogram's classic car series started in 1962 proved to be very, very popular by the mid 60's; (accurate, easy to build & well chosen subjects) as already mention. Pushing Johan to market in 1966 the '31 Caddy Trio & 500K duo kits in their famous "Gold Cup" top notch series, these kits where slightly better detailed then the Monogram ones with higher parts count, but fitting issues where relevant......a Johan's Packard kit was also talked about but never came, " classic & antique cars where "hot" in the 60's so MPC & Pyro joined the band, Pyro had already made a trio in 1/25 in late 50's, but these where no match to excellent Monogram, Johan, & Mpc offerings.......But Pyro did make a fantastic 1/32 "Brass" antique car series in the mid 60's, as you said, very detailed & accurate, vanished completly .....who is the owner of the dozen antique car kits molds.....Mystery
  12. Nice work on rare subject. All 1/16 car kits of Minicraft actual line are former Gakken kits, most of them are really nice kits. Japanese kit maker Gakken made a series of 1/16 antique & later classic car kits from the late 60's to the mid 70's, Entex did reboxed many of Gakken kits in the 70's-early 80's. Minicraft took most of the Gakken molds back in the late 80's: 1901 Dion Bouton, 1886 benz, or 31 ford, 33 cadillac V16, MGTC, kits where all originally made by Gakken model co of Tokyo.......try the '28 Mercedes SS one of Gakken's best kit.
  13. Strange that Monogram did not make a more accurate kit, after the excellent release of the Duesy SJ's & the Cord 812 in it's classic car series in the 60's. After a Duesy & a Cord, would think that Monogram next american classic would have been an Auburn of the 30's. The ex Pyro kit was made back in circa 1959-60, same for the ex Pyro 812 (this one is real, real bad compared to Monogram 812) & Continental kits ( not so bad but Monogram prewar model is also way better) so we can't expect accuracy, good level of details & perfect fitting in those 50's kits, but as mention the auburn kit can turn out not to bad with patience. ......nearly 50 years later still the only1/25/24 plastic kit of this beauty.....doubt that Revell will kit this one
  14. Both very nice models of a rare truck, looks pretty good can one of you tell me?; What do you get: cab, cab acces, glass, interior tub? How would you rate the quality of COE cab kit from 1 to 10?: resin quality, details, accuracy, overall look. Is it worth the money.....if still available? Conventional kit also good?.......(remember seeing this FG kit back in 1988!) ......................Anyone seen a real Marmon on highways lately
  15. Made in Japan Bandai Porsche 906 1/16 scale, originaly introduced in late 60's: molded in White, Black, Silver, Chrome, Clear, Rubber tires, Mabuchi Electric motor, rubber tires. could also be as mention an Entex US version. Bandai did launch starting in the mid 60's many 1/16 car kits thru the early 80's in many series: from calssic Bugattis, to '67 Mustang, to 906 road racer kits, some of these kits where fantastic in the level & accuracy (especially classic car series): '37 Packard, others where more toy like: 68 Corvette & some where in between: 906 or GT40 kits. Strong point: body proportions design + Tubular frame in front & rear section (basic but nicely detailed for the era) also like the typical mid 60's look narrow tires, working suspension, cockpit is not to bad. Still after nearly 40 years the only 1/16:large scale 906 plastic kit ever made. ...Bad ones: basic details on flat 6, aligment problems for doors & rear deck, will demand a bit of extra patience to make all fit neatly when closed, chrome plated wheels looks a bit toylike. Bandai did reissue a few of their old 1/16 kits in the 90's-00's (classic cars), but the 906 kit completly "vanished" in the early 80's never to be seen again a bit like Bandai's 1/16 GT40....keep it preciously!
  16. 126C2 #27 at Zolder in 1982, sad moment for the lost of a fantastic F1 Driver. Revell Germany took over all the molds from former Protar kits....the redone Revell instruction sheet & Decals are way better then the original Protar ones, the kit demands patience when building but a very nice piece when finished, still the only 1/12 plastic 126C2 kit, found this kit to be easier to assemble then the 312T, T2,T3,T4 &T5 1/12 ex Protar kits
  17. AMT only made the '55 & '57 Chevies in conv. coupe & nomad versions in 1/16 scale. These kits where marketed in mid 70's & level of accuracy & details are OK: All kits came with the "283" V8 small bolck equipped with single carb, optional chrome valve covers & air cleaner unit are also included for street machine version, the engine looks pretty good, but don't use the provided "oversized" tubing for the spaks plug wires!!!!! + the block has a Hole!.... too crossover the front metal axle for front wheels!!!! Steel wheels are provided in all 1/16 kits, don't expect super details here: basic engraving with a pretty large outer lip + appropriate chrome plated hubcaps (the 55's are nice!) & 50's Firestone tires. A set of (Cragar) mags (also not bad!) & appropriate goodyears are also in 55 &57 kits for street machine version. Minicraft retooled the stock 31 Ford convertible & Pickup kits to restorod versions in late 90's: a very nice & brand new post war ford V8 Flat head with all the vintage era speedparts was included (really nice)...but no wiring stock! + a new lower front axle & rear axle. New parts also included steel wheels (again basic engraving a bit smaller then amt's) with 4 same size "anonymus" whitewall hard vinyl tires, also included are nice set of "raiders" looking chrome plated mags with center knock offs (really nice) + 2 rear drag slicks (60's looking) & 2 front skinnies in soft vinyl, flames decal sheet complet the kits .Minicraft did a pretty good job, not bad at all. Note that all parts for stock versions are also included in the Hot Rod boxes.
  18. Excellent site. Looks like a great kit but those wheels look huge... Fujimi Kit looks great but tires & wheels seems to be the low point ... not the correct look a little bit too low profile (bigger wheels as mention?)+ 4 same size tires & wheels at all corners, rear wheels & tires should be wider on BB512. ....will take the ones in Studio27 kit Body proportions, interior & from what I see on the site, even the flat12 looks perfect. Thanks to all.
  19. Already made both: Revell 1979 release of the 365GTBB4 1st generation (1973-75) is surely not the best: bad body proprtions & oversized tires + fitting problems...believe me not a kit I recommend. Tokyo Marui kit of the 70's was for quite a time one of the best plastic 1/24 kit for body proportion & overall look when completed.....not perfect but way better then Revell, ESCI, Nitto, Nichimo or Otaki kits. But from what I've seen in contests The Studio27 kit is awesome beats every single kit I made of this Italian beauty, the finished model looks absolutely amazing even better then Fujimi 1/16 scale BB512!!!!! not bad for a curbside model! too bad can't get a review of the kit. Will probably get Fujimi newest BB512 1/24 kit, looks not bad at all &......4 times cheaper!!!!!.....no forum members got this one in stack or on workbench for review
  20. .Think the original green artbox was an Apollo model, Amt designers removed a few "extras" to make it to a "cheaper" work horse C116! representing amt's kit. Apollo versions where available to most DR models, these where stated as "custom" made models with, frame, suspension, axles, cab & more noticebale exterior options :chrome air cleaners, 2,3 or 4 aluminium tanks & battery boxes, dual exhaust pipes, chrome bumper with running lights, spotlights, aluminium wheels, A/C, sleepers, fancy graphic schemes, etc.etc, where available to "customize" mostly highway tractors models. Read that the DR Managment decided to name the top notch DR models: Apollo, after the NASA space program, to many the name Apollo had a prestigious "reach for the star" top of the top quality meaning attached to it, so the Apollo series would be the best DR could offer. The C116 made by amt was released in December 1972 (amt catalog release date), so we can assume it' a '72 0r '73, would not be difficult to "load" this model to be an Apollo edition.............if the kit had been realesed in '74 we could have got the Raider! ............Seen any T-Line on highway lately?
  21. Revell US did make a series of "Big Rig" Looking 70's based on Chevy van & pick-Up kits, penned by designer Kenny Youngblood circa 1977: - "Sneaky Pete" Chevy stepside PU & later midnight cowboy tow truck in 1/25 -"Brute force" custom Chevy Van 1/25 -"Movin On' custom Chevy van 1/16 ( reboxed by Revell AG in the 90's) Popular kits in the late 70's, then vanished in early 80's, the Sneaky Pete was reissued in late 90's in Road Warrior series by Revell US & as mention Revell AG did reissue the 1/16 Chevy Van with different decals & working lights.
  22. Nice project, keeping the rear spokes chrome plated? True that the Autocar A64B/ the HD Dump truck & also the Diamond Reo/White Road Boss/Western Star/, are much easier to assemble; frame, axles & engine wise, (all 5 kits share mostly the same basic frame/axles/ engine& cab parts) with different front wheels, hoods, fenders, fuel tanks, battery boxes & back ward front axles for every version. Fitting & aligment problems are minimal when assembling those kits....wait until you get your Mack Cruise Liner kit!
  23. Nice work, of a nice kit. The Italeri 1/24 kit was one of the first car made in their classic car series, starting in the late 70's, this is one of the Royal 41: Berline de voyage model (Italeri also made the Coupe Napoleon), Italeri wanted to choose the really prestigious top notch classics to start their series, as mention one of the oddity is that the side hood panels are molded in "one piece" with side door panels, leaving only the top panel to be removed to show Bugatti huge "block", nice & accurate details.. but 2 pieces plastic "huge" tires! The 1/16 scale kit is a different Royale 41: the Binder model (supposed to have been made for the king of Roumania) originaly made in 1974 by Japanese Bandai, this is a really nice kit, demands patience when assembling, but a real BIG museum piece when finished, boxed by Fuman in China a very nice kit for it's time. .....real car $14,000,000!!!
  24. Was wondering if one of MCM "reporters" made an article or bought or made, the Japanese Studio27 multimedia kit of the Ferrari BB5512 (factory stock) curbside kit.... is it worth the $130 demanded..... should I settle with Fujimi "full" detail NEW BB512 kit listed at $32??? Pro's comment would be welcomed Thanks for your wise answer
