Anybody Have experience with this kit?
ZIL 111V replied to Flymeister's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Pretty well covered. Not a bad kit for it's time, and still the only large scale plastic kit of this beauty. The BB512 kit was originaly presented in the late 70's, red/black on box in Fujini 1/16th line (built it in 1979 & in 1989 in Revell US box). As already mention the original version (1977) was "Mabuchi" "motorized" & had "working" light bulbs &... those 2 "mini" glue tubes included in the box (got it in '79) yours is the 2nd edition of 1983-84 no lights/no motor (Jap market kits still had both) with very nice boxart typical of all Fujimi car kits of the 80's...Fujimi surely hired a very talented artist back then those design were so kool! As mention the level of detail of the frame/engine(a bit "oversized")/transaxle is pretty "passable" & some parts look a bit "hefty":...remember that most of these kits were design back then as "motorized toys" to assemble &... to "play" with when completed (typical of Japanese domestic market car kits) front cowl section details are also pretty basic. Yes Getting all the body panels to fit right:(half bodies/doors/front-rear cowls) will demand a bit of work & patience...fitting is not perfect, balance of assemblies are not to nerv racking. The Interior (even if simple), general body proportions, wheels & excellent Michelin X rubber tires are the strong points of this Ferrari Master Piece design. Fujimi made a 3rd boxing in the 90's & a 4th limited edition not so long ago. Oddly the kit was not boxed by Testors back in the 80's but... Revell US in '87 Good kit of this beauty, great potential with little TLC when building. ...Those BB512 1/16th mint kits were selling for so cheap on eBay not so long ago -
...As mention, check Under MPC "Supra". Food Giant General Mill$ (...Kids Cereal!) bought MPC in 1970, their "Toy" division(s) were placed under the FunDimension name consisting of: -MPC: Plastic kits. -Lionel: Electric trains & acces -Craft Master: Paint by numbers... (talk about a typical 60's-70's Hobby ) Starting in early 70's (approx 1971) General Mills Logo will appear on all MPC kit (top)boxes. Fundimensions trademark will appear shortly later on (side)boxes....instruction sheets & parts of kits:(under body, frame, etc): got a few 1974 edition MPC kits with the FD Logo everywhere!. In late 70's FD will be taken by CPG Corp, the Logo will be redesigned & kept on sideboxes & kits parts until ERTL takes over in mid-late 80's. The brand "NEW" '82 Supra..(boosted Celica) was quite surprise from MPC back then, think was first..& last!!! japanese subject totaly made by MPC...quite a nice piece of machinery back then. AE86 totally different on your pix, based on later "bread & butter" ... Corolla econobox.

Nice start on one of kit the most beautiful British Sports Car ever. ...But this kit is the 1963 Revell US tool (1/25th: typical US scale), your version is in the Revell UK box...we didn't get here, this one is a very nice kit...better then competition(Aurora, Airfix) Engine, interior, body pr0portions are very nice for an early 60's kit, Revell did a great job back then, wheels are the minus but with black wash will look OK. Made this one many moons ago: did glue the lower & upper body section to "fill & sand" joint as a "single" unit as you mention, will look be much better &... easier to paint. When I built mine all my inner door panels were seperated/painted & install after the body was painted, hood aligment & fitting the hood/bonnet maybe a bit tricky but with TLC will get there. The kit was last available in '94 in Original 1963 box (SSP edition), & a bit later in the 90's... as the Austin Powers Union Jack painted "Shaguar"...Groovy! (Revell AG, Advent & CEJI did also few boxings). ...White Walls on XKE...Export US/Canada versions PlastiKote Velvet not bad, nice looking finish & pretty cheap.

Revell 1/16th Scale Rolls Royce Phantom II Discussion
ZIL 111V replied to Junkman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Nice kit of a beautiful 30'S RR (J.Gurney Nutting coachwork was the best on 30's RR's) , first edition presented back in 1978, based on a real one (box top pic) owned by US Collector....as your 2nd pic shows the car is still in excellent condition today (Pebble Beach?) Revell people back then were mostly in 1/16 Dragsters, Funnies, Chevy Vans/PU, & JEEP kits more appealing to kids in the 70's...so this "classic" beauty was quite a surprise in the Revell line. As you will see the kit is pretty simple not a lot of parts (170 approx), basic one piece ladder type frame, front steerable axle & rear differential are OK...brake drums a bit "thin"...no Gas tank??? engine is simple but convincing when "wired" with vinyl tubing provided. Interior is pretty simple with mildly textured seat/door panels/top/floor. NO hinges for doors, hood panels, rear trunk...(a la Gakken!!!) really nice real rubber DUNLOP tires with those great looking "disc" wheels + wire/tubing for engine SP wires. Assemblies of engine, frame, interior goes pretty well since not a complex kit, but the kit IMO)"rides" a bit to high: the 4 suspension leafs: front/rear must be "slightly bended in" to "lower" the height of this beauty... looks much better with a slightly lower look. The main body is a four pieces affair: front cowl, 2 door panels, rear panel: you may get a few misaligment problems (or warped parts!) when trying to assemble, you must decide if you want to glue in one piece body, or glue open, doors or hood panels...or if you dare get working "hinges" (always strange to see large scale kits with seperate panels & no hinges!!! ) proportions & design of the whole body is pretty good & accurate. The first edition was surely the best, (these RR's look great with disc wheels) but Tan color not very appealing, the kit was not a best seller... so an "improved"???? version was presented.... A secound edition was made in 1979 molded in Brown! with really bad wire wheels ,sticky tissu, for top! fake sticky wood panels!!!... really corny gold plated parts & to top it a presenting "plaque" with museum type fencing...the kit was no big hit....vanished in early 80's to never come back...Revell AG was supposed to reissue it a few years back, never seen it. A very nice yet simple kit of a beautiful car when completed. Nice kit -
AMT(Bud the Kat) introduced that beauty back in 1965, the kit was really far out for the days, Big 1/12 (To my knowledge AMT's only 1/12th kit car ever) & nicely detailed, since it was marketed for, mostly, young modelers, the assemblies are not too complex, when completed the kit really look great for such an old tool, a beautiful scale model for it's day. ...A kool comic strip ad with AMT's the "Kat" mascote was published in kids mags back then to promote this great kit. The kit was never a big hit, guess a Vette or Hot Rod (like Monogram 1/8 kit series) would have been right on target for young modelers of the 60's. Anyway AMT did a great kit of one of the most beautiful 30's American Classic. The kit was last reissued in 1993 (your box) by ERTL, another regular is the 1982 Matchbox version (nice yellow boxart). As alredy mention collectebility value of this kit is very...very low: I got the first 60's Edition mint edition in sealed box on eBay 6 weeks ago for $47!!!, the '82 mint edition goes for an everage of $30 & the '93 edition is usualy the "cheapest" can be bought for $25-$30...depending on how many are "fighting" in last minute bids!..the "highest"...if i can say, as expected, is the first 60's Edition ...Classic car kits, even in large scale, are no money makers...(except kit boxes with those 6 letters:P-O-C-H-E-R ) Nice kit of a beauty.

So What is Your All Time Favorite Big Trucks
ZIL 111V replied to impcon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
- Pete 359 (Surely the best looking US Coventional ever, especially the 1100 generation with all those 70's "funky" paint schemes )...Guess not the only one around here - KW K100 Aerodyne COE (...Surely the best looking US COE ever, the early "Aerodymne look was so neat: BJ & THE Bear color/paint scheme combination was surely the best ....today Aero look not so). - IH Lone Star (...Daring to be different & very well executed design ) - Freightliner FLT, COE, of the 70's (Nice paint schemes back then + massive look) Finally the Ford CL 9000, COE, with all the trimings: polished aluminium, chrome, "Curvy" paint schemes was nice, was also quite a beauty for a big "corporation" product, back in the late 70's -
Gunze Sangyo astonished the scale car modeler world back in the late 80's early 90's with their "High Tech" 1/24th scale:"multi media" kit series... still remember when I first saw the boxes: 250 GTO, XKE Conv...& the very rare Cobra Daytona Coupe (CDC)....priced at $65 each! in LHS back in early 90's, at those prices took me a few months to save $$$ to get my hands on the ultra rare CDC! My model is long gone but remember was a very, very nice kit, but oddly for such a pricey "high class multi media" kit: plastic/ white metal/brass/photoetched parts...NO opening hood....no engine was in box (lower oil pan/trans cubrside type) ...the "toughest" curbside I ever made anyway a real museum piece. ...HRM kit nice but so pricey for resin
-
Really outstanding kits, typical of Monogram back then: easy to build & very life like when completed..the boxtop pictures were really stunning :1980 Pete 359, 1981 KW W900, 1982 KW W900 Aerodyne + Flatbed trl ...'82 or '83. Still remember when I bought my "Giant" Pete 359 kit back in 1980 at local K-Mart for $15.99. The W900 Aerodyne & Fruhauf Flatbed both last reissued back in 1995 in Rev/Mon SSP program...at pretty reasonable prices back then. All the 3; 1/16th scale Tractors + the flatbed trailer, were also reissued by Revell AG (Germany) for Euro market with totally different boxes & (cheesy!)decals back in the late 90's. ...Pete 359 in original 1980 box/yellow version would also be nice

How about an Ugly car contest?
ZIL 111V replied to Modelmartin's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
1st "thing" looks like a Korean Hyundai Accent 2dr hatch. Looks reminds me of the (overstyled) "German Tuner" look, so common in the 80's-90's on "tuned": MB's, BMW's & VW's. ...May look better once painted -
Just shows, when you look at the same car design in a different angles: the front 3/4 nose/headlights) pic looks heavy...& a bit overstyled: hidden headlights with front "edge" (a la C2)_+ blackout grill would haved look much better, but rear 3/4 pic very, very, nice. With all the "Retro" design craze going on...GM designers not already putting final touches to a design similar to this one for the upcoming next generation Vette ...Wonder what late, Bill Mitchell/Larry Shinoda would think

2 glue bomb 4070's
ZIL 111V replied to cowboysevens's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Really nice work on those "extended" COE cabs. ...Strange to se that International never offered a bigger 106"-110" cab option (or MiniBus higher top version!) back in the 70's, on the 4070/Transtar II COE tractors...North America's #1 Best seller COE tractor back then, odd when we know that so many 4070 & Transtar II were leased/purchased by so many Moving van lines (& truck lines): double bunks would have been a very good selling option for the #1 COE class 8 truck seller. Wonder who did all the "110"??? "extension" cab conversions on the real ones we see on pix -
1/16 Dukes of Hazzard Charger to be Reissued?
ZIL 111V replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Nice to see this kit back. As already mention by Larry & Chris. Would also be great to see MPC's 1/16th '63 Vette in original 3 in 1 form (first early 70's edition).Odd that this beauty was never reissued from the late 80's to today. Last time I got this one was in 1984 in Street Machine form: Blower/Centerlines and... corny graphics! Good old MPC 1/16th 70's Charger Stock Car would also be nice...with generic Nascar type decals:(like MK 1/25th MPC stock car kits) original wheels/tires back & ... "clear body" like the good old days ,also made this one in the last 80's Street Machine version, another big MPC kit gone since the mid 80's -
...Tough kit indeed, (got one... scared of it ) yours is very, very, nice, the 1/2 multi-piece body turned out beautifu. What are the tires?...much better looking than the oversized toy looking plastic ones.

BIG Bandai 1/12th '68 Vette?
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Totally agree, Bandai was first a "Toy" Co, most of their 60's-70's kits where typical japanese plastic "motorized toys" , that where, like you say much better looking on the boxart: lack of details, basic assemblies, bad design proportions & parts fitting:not always the best!!!...resulting in "Toy looking" 1/24 "motorized" car kits, a few 1/20th, 1/18th & 1/16th scale kits where hardly better, from many Entex boxed kits i made back in the 70's early 80's, surely not top notch but a certain "charm" for the time , many of those would only get a very, very limited market... guys like us! But some Bandai kits where very finely detailed (1/16th classic car series + few 1/20th car kits), & other had been gone for so long... commanding collector prices...on eBay!, pretty sure a few would be very good sellers, if Bandai's decided to reissue them in original boxes...or send the molds to FUMAN The 1/12 '68 Vette...of course no Tamiya 1/12th level here!, not even Otaki 1/12th later C3 kit , but not so bad & as mention, STILL the only 1/12th scale plastic kit of an early C3 & loooooong gone for over two decades! ...Would also be welcomed (to name a few ) All of the mid 60's 1/12 F1 kits, 1/8 Jag XKE...(Didn't Monogram sue Bandai for this one!),1/20 Dueseberg SJ...Very RARE!,1/20 Porsche 914, Mazda RX2-3, Lamborghini Marzal, 1/16 '37 2 Packards &.... beautiful 1/16 Duesy SSJ:(All of the 1/16th scale classic &... antique car collection was surely Bandai's best, all of them are excellent finely detailed models resulting in real miniature museum pieces). -
Italeri repopping older kit
ZIL 111V replied to J Smith's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Italeri's best US truck kit(would have prefered the "highrise" sleeper version...this one had really nice decals!) nice to see it back. Remember paying a "hefty" $35 back in 1985 or 1986 when it first came out. Also had the Testors boxed 80's version with Blue graphics. -
1/25 car kits in TVs Thunderbirds
ZIL 111V replied to mike delamar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
WOW! Nice "behind the scene" pics...Crablogger is HUGE even in scale form! "big toy" indeed! Nice work on your replicas, demands a lot of patience & research any future plans for a RR FAB1? ...Wondering where are all those models now in 2010 (from the police cars to crablogger, sidewinder, etc???) Thanks for sharing, really kool -

ZIL 111V replied to mike delamar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
..."Path of Destruction" star: "CrabLogger" the HUGE yellow monster...one of the koolest machine of the series, totaly awesome! (including "junior" workhorses in episodes!)..Think was used in other episode too. And..."Pit of Peril"..."Sidewinder" "Walking" beast. On highway Lady Penelope heavily Kustomied 6 wheeler RR.... (Silver cloud ?) was also pretty far out! (wasn't a real one made in the 60's?) Remember got a few Japanese IMAI kits back in the 80's of the Tracy familiy machinery, long gone! As for the Johan Caddy really pricey & rare check.... eBay, from time to time to get content pics. ...Jaguar are brit kits or Corgi/Dinky Diecast? -
1/25 car kits in TVs Thunderbirds
ZIL 111V replied to mike delamar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
From what I can see Police cars are based on AMT(SMP),Johan & Monogram kits: -AMT '63 0r '64 Riviera coupe annual kit or Promo -AMT '64 OR '65 Buick Electra 225...annual Kit/Promo (both kit transformed as Station Wagon with Lincoln Continental wagon kustom parts?..Could also be scratchbuilt. -Johan '63 Olsmobile Starfire coupe annual kit or promo. -Monogram and... AMT (SMP)? '58-60 t-BIRDS? -AMT '64 Silhouette show car. The blue pickup in garage looks like an annual AMT/SMP kit or promo of the '59 0r '60 El Camino. The Cadillac "Bubble top" police car looks like an annual Johan '65 Cadillac Deville kit (front steerable wheels)....tough to get.... your best chance is Hasegawa '66 Curbside kit. ....Any close pics of the BIG machines used in different episodes -

ZIL 111V replied to mike delamar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gerry Anderson's best show, T-Birds was the best concept in it's "SUPERMARIONATION" series. Seen those picks, nice to see in closeup those 60's AMT & Johan car kits(& AMT Parts packs!!!), Nicer are the "scratchbuilt" ones (vehicules/planes/boats/space ships),designed & made by the talented modelers of the Anderson team, sure would be nice to see how those where made back then....some working & emergency stuff was really kool -
BIG Bandai 1/12th '68 Vette?
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
OK....at least still in this world....maybe in Fuman box one day! Odd that Tamiya "banks" on Nostalgia with their 1/12th car kits of the early 70's: 910, T70, 240ZG, etc, but Bandai's refuse to get in, with a few of their vintage car molds, sad!... guess "fighting" robots kits are better money makers in Big Bosses minds! Ex Otaki 1/12th C3 (1978-79) that came out in 1979 nice kit but, later '78-82 C3's not my cup of tea. YES....Trying to get a bandai '68 C3 1/12th MINT kit on eBay kit is tough, a very de$$$$$ired beauty indeed! -
Any forum members knows if Japanese Bandai toys still have the mold of the 1968 Corvette Stingray in 1/12th scale available in the 70's, another "vanished" one for at least 25-30 years. (same question can be asked for the smaller "427" 1/16 or /18 scale '68 vette kit). The smaller kit is a "regular" on eBay in Entex box, but the larger 1/12 kit is rare...meaning pretty pricey wondering if mold still exist. To my knowledge this is the only large scale plastic kit ever made of C3 (first years:1968-72).

Nice to see an "Original Six" team win the cup, like Detroit(drought was long there too!), Hockey is a "Big thing" in Chi-Town, at least the cup was won in a city where Hockey matters & fans have been true followers/supporters for decades+++ BH jersey is still the best looking one after all those years!!! well deserved....Boston Bruins in near future

Lindberg 1/16th Big Horn
ZIL 111V replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sure would be nice to see this kit comeback after nearly 30 years of vanishing. Originaly made by Pyro in the mid 60's, the kit ended with Lindberg when Pyro closed shop. The "corny" "Bull Horn" version was the last time this kit was available back in the late 70's. -
1/20 Lindy Pete
ZIL 111V replied to old-hermit's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice. I also got one, must admit that Lindberg did good work on this "basic" kit, looks much better then the "toylike" original Testors edition of the early 80's, just seen one (OOB) in modelcar show this weekend, impresive for a basic curbside kit. -
Just got a cheap ($5) AMT 1969 Riviera kit a my local LHS, would like to build it in Kustom form, but the original'69 annual edition optional Keyston mags are...still long gone (guess since the countdown edition of '77!!!). Remember that AMT's '40 Ford Panel & '61 Ranchero had them back in 70's...but also deleted in later 90's editions Any forum memember could tell me in wwhich recent amt kits I could dig a st?
