What 1930(ish) Luxury cars did Monogram do?
ZIL 111V replied to Aaronw's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Where are the molds of both Bandai's 1/16 '37 Packards V12??? Totally vanished since the mid 80s. ...(Collecting dust in China's FUMAN warehouse? ) Surely two of the most beautiful 1/16 plastic "Classic" car kits ever made. -
...Canadian Grand-Prix, 1978, in Montreal....pretty cold day as I remember...on TV!!! Really Nice 312T3, my favorite one in Tamiya's early 1/20th F1 kits. Must admit Tamiya did a great job with it's 1/20 F1 series back in late 70's, those kits where very nice, But always tought that this T3 version was the Reutman car.(Gilles T3 had small minor body differences).
-
As mention the kit was originaly presented in mid 70's, nice boxart, as for the model itself...could be better! IMHO the completed model look a bit toy like. Monogram's'53 Vette (Plastic version) is way better: better parts fit & really nice look when completed. AMT also made a very nice '55 Vette Snapper kit back in the 90's, much better looking then the'53 full detail kit. Also agree with BMF "mesh" solution.

Nice.....got to be patient with this one Protar's ultimate Auto kit, a real museum piece when finished....to bad no early F1 Ferraris made at this scale by Protar back then Revell AG should reissue this one.

Volvo N-10 by Ertl
ZIL 111V replied to modeldad's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Remember seeing the N10 ERTL kit in LHS back in 1983-84, ERTL introduced back then The Pete 359 (road & drag versions) & the Volvo kit with metal frames, the Pete 359 was pretty average (AMT's & Revell's 359's where much better). The Volvo was a bit better...but could not figure why back then an "Euro" truck was made by ERTL!!!...was expecting the brand new generation Transtar COE... anyway the kit is not bad at all, true that the spokes are really nice + nobody made an N10 in 1/24-25 plastic kit, not even Italeri.(1/32 snapper based on this kit will be made by AMT later). Nice kit. -
...Where is the best looking of the series?....VW Bug....Licensing fee$ to high?
-
Nice "Lorry", a rare suject for sure. Seen these kits in LHS... pricey!!!

Johan Eldorado Rancher GC3300
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Also have 1 open '74 (molded in white) & 2 '76 (molded in blue/yellow) in Rancher GC-3300 box too, but can not see any diferrences on the boxes, these are pre mid 80's (before barcode)....(Barcode rancher boxes of 80's are surely '76's). ...The 3 sealed ones I have are pre barcode: 70's-early 80's...what's in?.....mystery -
Always wondered why Johan did not update it's annual boxart for 1975 & 1976 Eldorado "Rancher" glue kit...using the 1974 on box top ('75'76 Snapper Eldo boxart could have been used? ) gets a bit confusing when you have 3 sealed GC-3300 boxes &.... want to keep them sealed Remember getting 1976 Eldos boxed in 1974 boxes back then...but never got a 1974!!!...could any of the 3 sealed I 1974's? Any hints on box that would suggest modelyear of the content

Japanese kit makers did a lot of kits of the Sratos in many scales back in the 70'-80's...some good...some bad! ...The best Stratos plastic kit ever, was introduced back in 1979. Japanese Nitto Kagaku made a 1/12th Stratos "Alitalia"'76-'77 Monte Carlo & ..."Safari" rally versions Still the best kit I've seen, fully detailed, V6 engine, chassis, interior, working suspension, all opening panels, real rubber tires, 350+ parts, pretty nice kit, now boxed by Doyusha.

Mission Impossible car...
ZIL 111V replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
...Don't remember seeing Jim Phelps riding a "Barris" '69 Coronet Conv like this one, in TV episodes, back then. The closest would be a stock white'68 Coronet convertible mounted on American Racing mags(nice look). Pretty rare F/S kit you got there...don't open it -
AMT '69 Galaxie BOSS 429 ...accurate?
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks to all, so 427 SOHC, tought the lower portions of the "427" in this kit looked a bit "flat", compared to other kits: "ribbed" lower portion 427 SOHC valve covers...(bit picky here!), &... where completly out of touch for a "429" Boss. Since not factory stock & OOB build, will put the box optional engine... ...Guess will have to "shave off" the "429" in side corner light script -
AMT '69 Galaxie BOSS 429 ...accurate?
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Accuracy of valve covers...they look a bit basic To be honest the optional BOSS valve cover don't look accurate to me, compared to 429 Boss web pics, like the one Eric posted....tought could be another "aftermarket" design No Boss 429 was available in 1969 for Galaxies, but Since will built as a street cruiser or mild custom would have put the the more "exotic"!!!Boss engine, just wan't to be sure before completing the engine block sub assembly... more common 429 Thunder Jet won't be bad either, but Boss would be nice...IF right valve covers. -
An auto design masterpiece, the actual DBS(V12), is surely the most beautiful front engine exotic car right now, what a beauty: perfect body proportions & elegant "high class" look. ...Can't go wrong with Tamiya ...First generation('68-'72) DBS kit would also be nice

Must admit that the 362 is way better looking, really neat! (at least the protoype pictured on promo shots) than the 359 kit...tought the 359 looked a bit toylike back then......("reworked" reissue looks much better). Funny to see corporate marketing decision strategies...Plenty of 359's kits! Back in 1982 the Pete 359 was kitted by: AMT in 1/25 & 1/43 scale, from 1980 to 1982-3, five 359 kits will be marketed: Monogram 1/16, 1/32 & 1/25 Snapers, Revell AG 1/25 kit & Ertl with upcoming 1/25 Metal frame one in 1982-3... at least seven, 359's plastic kits were available on shelves, but no 362 COE ever been tooled by anyone in plastic kit, marketing, first, an "exclusive" brand new generation 362 sounded a better idea, than the "8"th version of a 359 kit?...go figure

Back in 1981-82 Testors marketed the 1/20th Peterbilt 359 kit (...Reissue coming soon )..another tractor was in the plans for release... Remember seing a Testors Promotional flyer back then, probaly issued in 1981 or 82, showing, another Pete tractor kit: the brand new "then" redesigned 362 COE, 110" cab, single winshield, triple wipers, square headlights, top air deflector, molded in yellow with brown dual side stripes, pretty good chance the kit would have shared a few parts with the 1/20th Pete 359 kit. Tought I dreamed that after all those years....but eBay just gave me the proof that I saw that folder nearly 30 years ago (same folder on sale now). NEVER saw the 362 COE kit anywhere...did the project fade away
-
From what I read, production was only weeks away (mold was completed)....but Frustated unionized AMT employees ended up in "badly dammaging" this mold, during a union "fight" with AMT. + back then AMT was tight on money, so out of question to "fix up" the mold

Can anybody identify ...
ZIL 111V replied to old-hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The rear "winged B" Logo indicate a Bentley, this one was one of a kind. ....Vintage GB Plate: GJ 3811.....1930 Bentley, Three seater coupe, custom made by J.Gurney Nutting coachbuiders, for a W.Barnato back then -
Looking for vintage MPC box art?
ZIL 111V replied to Rider's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
later in the 70's MPC "retooled" the 1970-71 Econoline kit in a few versions: Super Van, Visible Van, Shock Treatment 4x4. Probably one of those is the one your looking for: -"High Jacker" 1/20th scale econoline 4x4 van kit, molded in black, available back in 1979....nice kit .....Weapons?...would be the ((2wd))) 1/20 th Econoline Police "Slammer" version also in 1979 -
Beautiful kit indeed, of one of the most beautiful classic car of all time. But must admit that the body proportions of the 500K & 540K kits are quite off, when comparing to Johan, Monogram. Heller or 1/16 Minicraft (Gakken) 500-540"K" kits...a bit surprising when you see some of Pocher's museum master pieces with perfectly proportioned body designs: '32 Rolls, Alfa & the stunning Bugatti T50... what a beauty. I remember first seeing assembled 500k & the 540k Pocher kits way back at IPMS Conventions & noticed that the body design looked a bit strange on both ...Maybe based on a custom "stuby" work done on the real ones. Pocher tought about the modelers who did not have the patience or lost intrest while starting: The First ones: Fiat Grand Prix & Alfa Romeo were also available in completly assembled version back in the 70's.

Back in 1977 or 1978 AMT "nearly" introduced a garbage truck, based on the Ford C600 kit (long frame version). The kit was pretty advance in developement, boxart was already drawned up: yellow cab/silver gray refuse unit (with Bicentenial 1976 Michigan plates), kit would have been call a Ford C600 Refuse truck with a Load Packer/ Garwood refuse unit mounted on the C600 frame. From what I read the mold was heavily dammage... the project was thrown in ...Garbage

Your favorite song as of today
ZIL 111V replied to Corvette.Jeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
More than a feeling (& others) from BOSTON, one of the great contemporary rock songs of the last 4 decades. Unfortunatly talented lead singer; Brad Delp, decided to leave our world way to soon....(Hitch a ride).... May you RIP my friend. -
Revell/Monogram "Street Fighter" Questions.
ZIL 111V replied to Joe Handley's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
...Will this issue have the original "full" rear top (clear red) glass, magwheels & decal sheet of the 1st 1970 edition The kit was "slightly" retooled in the early 80's : no more rear top glass...new mags/wheels, decals, top hood redesign... was a bit desapointed when got the Street Fighter II vesion approx 10 years ago, tought the kit would have been reissued to original version...let's hope Revell will reissue this one in it's original 1970 form.
