The Kenworth K100
ZIL 111V replied to Rider's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The KW K100 Aerodyne is surely one of the best looking class 8 COE tractor ever made. AMT was first in presenting the K100 Aerodyne kit back in 1980 in 1/25, 1/32 snapper & 1/43 kits: 4 versions of the 1/25 K100 Aerodyne truck where made: -Tyrone Malone "PAPA" K100 drag truck transporter for the "Super Boss" -TM "Hyde Out" K100 drag truck transporter -BJ & the Bear TV series K100 tractor -K100 tractor (blue) the 1/25th tractor kits was based on the "stretch" frame of Tyrone Malone "Papa" & "Hyde out" transporters, that's why we got the longer frame on the highway tractors (get's you that stretch"west coast look"!) The Tyrone Malone & B.J & the Bear Tractor K100 kits where made available until 1983-84, gone since then, the K100 Aerodyne (blue) was kept thru all the 80's decade by Matchbox, then ERTL until 1992, then dropped, the same kit made a come back in 2002....(fast seller) then vanished again...eBay is you best place to get one.............but pricey! AMT's K100 Aerodyne is a nice kit, found it much easier to assemble then other AMT tractor kits.... the interior tub is a bit "botched up" the floor tub is 2/3 complet! + bumper & muffler stacks looked a bit "skynny" but these set aside, the finish kit is really neat with that long wheelbase frame. Back in 1982 Revell Germany also made a 1/25 K100 Aerodyne kit, a real beauty when completed, the kit was in & out thru the 80's-90'-00's, also reissued 2 years ago, now harder to get. -
AMT BIG RIG SET Combos....How many?
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks for all your inputs, especially Jeff. Over 20 sets, in (approx) 10 years ...more then I tought, intresting to see that the sets are starting with the letter "G"...(group?) instead of AMT's common "T". Some never heard of, others are a bit odd: Autocar A64B or KW W925... with twin '27 trailers!....odd that AMT people did not match the twin trailers with the Freigthliner SD... (CF combo!) or Ford C600 tractor kits! Those first "G" sets must be worth a lot in factory sealed mint version, they seem to be a bit more rare then the later Beer "G" combos. If not mistaking the later Beer ones where very popular & widely available, most retail stores had many, many, many in stock: Kmart, Woolworth's, Sears, including all LHS. Back then, bought all my beer ones at local K-marts for less then 20 bucks back (late 70's). ....now on eBay sells for approx 11 time more! (also notice that the beer combos are much more common on eBay then the first sets). True that those BRS did hit the retail store shelves in late fall...just right in for the holidays season. Also true that e few sets where available in "ONE box": Thrills of tounaments C600-Auto trailer, later US Mail C600-27' trailer....and the 2 very first ones back in late 60s: Dirt Hauler & moving van tractor combo...(these 2 tractor & trailer sets where more "toy like" stuff). Combos BUT not boxed in 2 different boxes with "corner" BRS box. Thanks again to all..............no one has the truck poster folder on Fotki or other -
Truck modelers of the 70's, will probably remember well the "BIG RIG SET" series of 1/25th truck & trailer combos offered by AMT in the 70's when truck kits was the rage. Any forum members could indicate how many BRS "combos" where made availble by AMT troughout the 70's: What kits started the first BRS series... early, mid 70's? -Pete 359 T500 / Reefer? - Pete 352 /Gulf tanker? Remember the Beer ones I got in the second half of the 70's, these where quite popular: -Coors DD Freightliner/reefer -Pabst DD Freightliner/reefer -Miller Astro 95/ reefer -Bud Pete 352/reefer -Schlitz Mack CL/reefer Also remember the last one I saw: GMC General/NAV trailer....last combo set? any other sets under the Matchbox years? ....Finally you may also remember that a small color folder was put in many AMT tractor kit boxes back in 1977-78, advertising poster of real trucks of the 70's : Petes 359, 352, KW Aerodyne W900 Centenial, to name a few, remember ordering the Yellow Pete 359 (Winslow stripped) huge poster...looooong gone. Any one as kept the folder or as still have one of these truck posters...sure would be nice to see them , after all those years;)

Years or scale not matching for plastic kits, that where made Back in 1985, Revell did the 1/12th 1965 Mustang Shelby GT 350: Was the original 60's ex Renwal 1/12 th, '65 Mustang 2+2 kit , tuned to shelby look. 70's Japanese Nichimo's 1968 Shelby GT500 would be the closest in...1/16th! ....Both kit are quite pricey. ....Sure would be nice to see the 1/12th '65 Mustang kit back
-
Nice "Mouses"... pretty noisy reminds me of the tuned "Abarth" 500 & 600's hillclimb, road & rally racers of the 60's-70's. ...odd that the 500 or 600 Abarth versions did not win a Rally championship back in the days, sure must have been a serious rival of the Mini Cooper "S" back in the 60's.

MPC Roscoes Patrol Car
ZIL 111V replied to Rick Schmidt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Always wondered why MPC decided to put a boxart of the four door version with Monaco coupe rear end (Funny that MPC designer took the coupe as insparation instead of a real 4dr). ....Look real good, better then the 1/1 -
...SD a few years back....Guess DD version was a question of time, at least we can get the original 1972 DD at a fair price, great boxart ...Guess will keep my late 70's COORS DD kit sealed 4300 Eagle & RR Log trailer are also nice "long goners" R2.. pics. Tought the next one for 2010, would be the White Western Star...long gone since early 80's, but will gladly settle for the Road Boss. At least now, we get new (old stock) AMT & ERTL '70's truck kits every year at "reasonable" prices

Gregg's iHobby Pictures
ZIL 111V replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great pix. .....Look's like Monogram's 1982 1/32 "snaper" Fruehauf Tanker, was able to "sneak out" after over 20 years, on a lower shelf, with a.....the Mack R?....Freightliner FLC? in front Great news for the Lone Star, let's hope a 1/25 kit Amt's: Ford T, double drag kits, Tommy Ivo...(a beauty of a dragster) & White Road Boss kits are also great news. Little red wagon racing transporter set is also pretty neat....not replica of the real rig ??? -
Ford C-900 + AMT auto transporter
ZIL 111V replied to Patrick K.'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
AMT did box the same "Combo" : Ford C600 & it's "anonymus" single axle 5 cars Auto Transporter in the "Thrills of tournaments" as a set back in the early 70's. As mention, Single axle gasoline powered tractors with single one axle 5 cars trailers where very common from the 20's to the very early 70's: The AMT Ford C with amt's single axle would be period correct for a late 50's to early 70's: 4 to 5 car loads. ......Don't hitch to Revell AG early 80's auto transporter.....or Mistuwa 80's auto Transpo trailer -
Monogram/Tom Daniel Rommel's Rod
ZIL 111V replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Decal sheet..............still the same as 1969 original -
Any fine MC Forum members could tell me what brand of paint they use when painting a factory stock Ford V8 "flathead" from 1932 to the 40's (that match the closest Ford green shade of early V8 engines)??? Same question goes for Lincoln's V12 engine of the 30's-40's. ...Any spay cans available of that "Ford Green" for 1/1 car restorers .....did not expect Duplicolor can for this one! Thanks.

Pimp Mobile engine?
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
From what I can see on Round 2 website, the MPC '72 GTO engine block is the exect same, chassis/axles/mufflers assemblies is about 99% similar, only minor differences: "V" shaped front & rear frame ends & 2 straight muffler pipes thru end, in the '72 GP kit.....MPC '67 GTO pretty similar too. ....True that a shift manual is a bit "unpractical" with all those streets stops: checking "buisness" often on the streets of NYC...Jersey City....or Detroit -
Just got MPC's "Superfly" Grand Prix kit, mostly mint :engine block was "bomb" glued for at least 30 years with 25 cents "Pactra" tube ..still in box....really bad! Since the kit is based on the '72 GP, Was wondering if MPC's '72 GTO engine block is the same one? Would it be the best replacement? closest to original edition? Thanks.

Remember seeing ads for the MPC championships back in the second half of the 70's, in various car mags, always wondered who was winning! ...Any of these "pros" kept their "winners" in one piece? sure would be nice to se them 30+ years later, plus pix of the plaques or trophies ....(MCM should think about making a series of articles on past national contest winners, like these gentlemens, & pics of their winning models of the 60's-70's-80's).

......LOST.....FOREVER???
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
....R.I.P. for Aurora Funnies, indeed, was not sure, but with your inputs pretty sure the only way to get one mint now is with a very "fat" wallet on eBay. Thanks for web link. At least the 1/16 Antique series kits are still reasonably priced. As for TD 1/12 & 1/16 scale kits of the early 70's, had hope.......1/12th Red Baron was reisued 20 years ago, Revell probably still have this one ,maybe, only maybe..... the Bug or Maverick lies around True ....Remember back then (1985-86) seeing in hobbyshops the 1/8Edai 72 Lotus JPS F1, the 1/12 ex Renwall MB 300SL gullwing & the 1/16 1937 Rolls Phantom III 4dr (another jap kit) in really, really nice Revell packages, the Renwal 300SL & Rolls Phan III are still with us, as for the Lotus 72...total mistery! ....Forgot about those Virgil Exner Renwal 1/25 mid 60's Duesy & Stutz kits, sure be nice to see those back too. Thanks to all. -
Was wondering where are the molds for the following model car kits, some of them have left us for nearly 30+ years.....Lost, destroyed, stolen? -Aurora 1/16 Scale Funny Cars: Pinto, Vega & accessories kits.......Monogram took many Aurora mold back in 70's, "Vanished" since.....R.I.P??? -Aurora 1/16 "Old Timers" antique brass car kits: Olds Curv dash, Stanley Steamer, Buick, Mercer, Stutz, etc, gone too for nearly 3 decades. -Monogram Tom Daniels 1/16 VW Smug Bug / Muscle Bug, gone since the mid 70's, never reissued since. -Monogram TD 1/12 Mean Maverick Funny Car. -Pyro 1/32 "Brass antique car" series: Ford T, Rolls silver ghost, Renault TC, etc, Life Like or Lindberg ? took the molds back in 70's.....Lindberg may have them? (Lindberg as the Pyro 1/32 Table Top series......but never saw the ANTIQUE car kits in Linberg boxes) -Edai/Gripp/Entex BIG 1/8 Scale Lotus 72 JPS F1, Mclaren M23 F1, Porsche RSR.....Totally "vanished" since early 80's.....molds "rusting" in a dusty japanese warehouse???? Possible we may see one of these kits back
-
Model Car Science made a 3 pages article on "how to" assemble the BB, back in Sept 1969, when the kit was fresh on shelves, the real one was already touring the "Kustom-Show Rod" events across the country Only one BW left profile photo of the real BB + 10 BW pics showing tips & techniques of the days......Silver & Gold leaf Rub'N Buff, Hazel's Pearl white enamel, etc. ........Odd that Monogram kitted this Barris Show Rod.....Tought that MPC, back then, had an exclusivity agreement with the "King"

Bernie is at it again!
ZIL 111V replied to Tommy Kortman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bernie &....... Max!, quite a "bloody" pair indeed! ......At least the queen didn't "knight" one of them -
Would like to spraypaint a tanker trailer with Model Master Aluminium 1452 can, painted small parts before but never a larger surface like a tank trailer.....will it give a good "polished aluminium" lifelike result Any tips, techniques used...or pix, by forum members will be appreciated: -How many coats.....several coats will give a better finish??? -What kind of tissue or cloth is recommended to polish the paint? -Was told to prime with testors silver can before applying MM Metalizer? on white or colored plastic to protect from "polishing thru" bare plastic. -MM Metalizer sealer will protect finish (finger prints!) &...decals? -Is it as effective on Resin parts? Thanks to all

...........MPC did make the CannonBall black countach back in 1981 or 82, MPC did have the rights for the movies; a few other kits where also made. Remember that the kit was not accurate at all based on a Japanese mold of the "Wolf" LP500S with a grafted front wing!!!!!!, the real one was a secound generation LP400S. kit molded in black, nice box art :one of the lady driver was on top corner of box to boost the sales

BIG "Mercury" sleepers...Any kits?
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
...Exactly what I'm looking for, Thanks. -
Doyusha (ex Otaki) 1/12 LP 400 & LP500S are 95% similar: same chassis/engine//interior/glass/main body shell. -LP400 has the factory standard lambo wheels mounted on Michelin X tires -LP500S kit has extra trees for: Front lower chin, front & rear wheel arches to accomodate the larger Pirelli P7's mounted on large telephone dial mags, rear spoiler, & rear trunk locker latches. the decal sheet also provide the correct decals for both "Wolf" versions.......you get the 4 LP400 wheels in LP500S kit but not the tires!!!!!! both kits had never been updated. -Fujimi also made the 1/16 "motorized" the first was the LP400 & a bit later the Wolf LP500S versions circa the same time....remember building those back in 1979 or 1980, again both kits like the larger ones are pretty similar, "Wolf" parts have been added to the LP400 kit. In fact most japanese kit makers did make theyr own molds of the LP400 & later the....the LP500S "Wolf" back then: Tamiya, Imai, Tokyo Marui, Blue Tank, Kawai, Nitto, Bandai, Nakamura, etc. in various scales, Entex did box a few of these kits back in the late 70's. Fujimi did update the 1/16 Countach kit back in the mid 80'as a 5000s QV model with 80's up to date redesign with different engine/body/wheels parts: wheel arches, spoilers, a few minor main body alterations, magwheels, & Fuel injection engine....Older modelers will remember that Fujimi was the "Champ" of Countach kits back in the 80's, kits in 1/24, 1/20, 1/16, full detail & curbside kits where available......including the "Tuner" ones: Koening!

Really nice work, on a very nice kit...still the nicest Countach plastic kit Originaly made by Japanese Otaki in the late 70's, (Doyusha will take the mold back in the mid 80's). Testors will also box the LP500S back in the late 80;s. Remember building the original kit back in 1981 finished mind in the "2nd" version : Blue with gold wheels. Surely one othe nicest & most detailed kit in Otaki's 1/12 series kit (approx 400 parts), the V12 engine was surely one of the nicest feature of the kit, wheels & Pirelli P7's are also excellent, true that the working suspension is quite a challenge to do...nice touch of the 2 pieces side "vented" rotors...but half calipers!! Otaki made the LP400 & the very special "Wolf" LP500S edition, especialy tailored for Walter Wolf; only 2 where made the red one in 1975.....destroyed in a accident......Wolf at the wheel? & a second custom factory Blue with gold wheels in 1976.....a third one will be made for Wolf in 1978 on the 2nd generation Countach. The "Wolf' LP500S was surely the most "kitted" Lambo, especially by Japanese kit makers, at least 25+ kits where made from 1/32 to 1/12 scale.
