  1. Thanks Bill. Thing is I have shot metallics before and all went well. The first time I shot a metallic it didn't go well but I adjusted and I thought I had it right. So I shot it like I have always shot a metallic. The only difference was this was a lacquer and I've never shot a lacquer, lesson learned.
  2. Ok, well I'm just bummed out because I wanted this to turn out good since it's a replica of my first car. That's why I went with the MCW, I wanted the original color. Not sure what I'm going to do with it. I've heard wet sanding a metallic is not the way to go. But I think I will try to sand out some of the roughness and shoot another couple of coats. I'll try to get closer and put it on wet, maybe that was the problem. This is my first time using lacquer so I admit I don't know much about it. I think from now on I'll stick with acrylics. I have used about half of it. The lid does not have a foil seal, so don't know what happened there. I know they had just made a move and were backlogged on paint orders, maybe a mistake was made.

  4. I disagree. I've sprayed a lot of bodies and never had this problem. I've sprayed metallic using my airbrush which has .3 needle, never has this problem.
  5. Steve I can understand you may think it's user error, but I've painted many bodies with Tamiya paint and never had this problem, so I will disagree with that. My paint jobs always have been smooth, never this rough. It feels like sandpaper and no it's not dust, body was covered during drying. I know I can gloss it with clear, that's not a problem. The color is a metallic, but I've sprayed metallic before with my airbrush which has a .3 needle, and have not had this problem. The primer I used was Mr. Hobby, it's good stuff, came out smooth as glass, don't think it was the problem. The lid on the jar has no type of sealing device, just metal against glass, that never works.
  6. You can't really see it in photos, it's more of a feel, like it's gritty. And it's not dust, I had it covered during drying.
  7. I didn't, but should have. But it's not like it was too hot. It is just not smooth, feels very rough. I used Mr Hobby Primer.
  8. I got the paint a couple of days ago and painted my 66 Impala replica with it. I am not impressed. It came out rough, not smooth at all, and it's streaky, blotchy. I will need to wet sand and see if I can get it smoothed out and try adding a couple more coats. It's also not as glossy as I would have thought. I can maybe fix that with a clear. I've never had to sand a body I painted with Tamiya Acrylics. I should have tried to find a Tamiya color that was close to the original. Also the bottle leaked badly when I was shaking it, never could get it on tight enough to stop it leaking.
  9. After looking closer I will say I'm not impressed with this MCW paint at all. Very rough, not smooth. I will need to wet sand to get this smoothed out, and try adding another coat. I've never had to sand a body I painted with Tamiya paint. I should of just tried to find a Tamiya color that was close to the original. Also the bottle leaked badly when shaking it, never could get it tight enough to stop the leaking.
  10. Not sure if I like this MCW lacquer. Seems to go on streaky and blotchy. I put on 3 coats, maybe I need to put on a couple more. And it's not as glossy as I thought it would be, guess I can remedy that with a clear coat.
  11. Thank you. Thanks Mike. Thanks Bob. I finally got the paint, just haven't had time to spray it. I'm curious too.

  14. When The Levee Breaks.
  15. Justin Johnson......Lost in the Storm.
  16. Hideaway....Jeff Healy.

  18. Started this one. Seems to be a nice kit. Working on the cockpit first.
  19. As Dave has already said, you need to prime. I use Mr. Hobby Primer. Sometimes I will not prime small parts, but if you handle them much the paint will rub off. The craft paints have lots of metallic colors but the flake is way big. Tamiya has some metallic and it looks ok to me.
  20. Interior is finished. I should be getting the body paint in the next couple of days. I've got it prepped and primed, ready for the color coat.
  21. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks Jim.
  22. I used to use Rustoleum, then I got an airbrush and starting using craft acrylics, which work pretty good and can be purchased cheap at Walmart and Hobby Lobby. I also tried the Createx paints from HL and they worked good, but are a bit more expensive. Then I tried the Tamiya acrylics using Mr. Hobby Leveling thinner and they are the best I've tried. I get them online from Hobbylinc, they are around 3.00 dollars for the 23ml bottle, the mini 10ml bottles are 2.00 dollars. Try the craft acrylics, they are cheap and may be what you are looking for. Tamiya also has spray cans and can be purchased from Hobbylinc but I have not tried them. They are a little more expensive compared to the acrylics.
  23. Got the interior panels and the dashboard done.
