I just learned another great term; "Underslung" Is that actually a frame turned upside-down? This whole look is cool, and what a fun build it would make!

Fourth up was the Year One '69 Mustang known as "Blackened".

Then came an article on builder Bobby Alloway and his Ridler contenders; a couple of '32 Roadsters and a '57 Thunderbird.

Next up was a Kreations Auto Body '70 'Cuda re-kreation. The article had the full build and photos - great stuff to reference for a scale build.

In the 90's, Hot Rod Magazine proudly presented their swimsuit issue each April. This went by the wayside after a while, but in April 2006, HRM put out what IMHO was the sexiest issue in a long time! It began with a retrospective on the '65 Dodge Coronet NASCAR stocker driven by Lee Roy Yarbrough in 1965.

So far, not much luck finding a '64 Charger to base the concept car on. Would this Lindberg work, or does someone know of a better choice? I think the 330 and Polara had different wheelbases, but I'm not sure if that was the case in '64 or later.

Great story for my Canadian friends! An article about a gentleman who bought the Rankin Ford '65 A/FX Falcon "Wild Child" on ebay, and not only resurrected it - but commissioned AMT to make a 1:25 scale kit as well! Heck, I want to commission a few dozen different cars in scale - - - how do I go about doing it?

The Teverbaugh & Kirkland '57 Bangert Salt Flats racer. I saw this car a couple of years ago in the Petersen Museum, and it has a great stance and personality. This article in HRM September 2005 does a good job of documenting its restoration, and has some nice photos for anyone looking to reproduce it in scale.

Another Steve's Auto Restorations car - this one a '64 GTO on the cover. I wonder if Steve Frisbie has ever had a TV show? Considering how prolific and accomplished he is, his company certainly would have merited the notoriety. The article also brought up the trend of taking old muscle cars and putting them over all new frames, suspensions, and drivetrains - - - what we today call resto-mods.

Sticking with the theme of high powered Mopars, the same issue also did an article on a secret Chrysler program that was developing 1971 Daytonas and Superbirds. Not only were these cars wicked cool, there was even a little scale model drama thrown in;

HRM August 2005 did a cover story on the newly released Dukes of Hazzard movie As was only right, the General Lee was the star of the movie And in the same issue of this magazine were a couple of drawings I thought would be so fun to replicate in scale! The first; a "General Grant" to represent the North Or, a modern two door version of General Lee

And speaking of Chris Ito and Steve's Auto Restorations, HRM June 2005 had this on a '35 DeSoto Airflow to be called "Phantom Airflow". I don't know if this one ever saw the light of day, as there was nothing of it in Steve's website - although there were plenty of other phenomenal builds! https://www.stevesautorestorations.com/projects/

HRM February 2005 had this small segment on a truck designed by Chris Ito and being built by Steve's Auto Restorations called "Ramrod". At first I thought it was a '33 Dodge pickup, but when compared to a stock vehicle, there isn't much that hasn't been heavily modified. Just a glorious series of curves and arcs. I so want to either build this one in scale, or find it in diecast otherwise. And, as for me, I would totally want it in bare metal as seen here! I'm not sure if others are having technical difficulties, but just recently my initial link to the HRM magazines starting acting up. I have been accessing it by going to the main Motor Trend page and clicking on "Magazines".

HRM had by now taken to using the term "rat rod" quite liberally, and was covering car shows devoted to this genre. Here, they showed a 5 window with twin Chevy motors. I was fairly ambivalent about the car, but did like the setup of the engines... HRM May 2005

HRM May 2005 had a wonderful article on the Bonneville Speed Records holder known as "Goldenrod". Since the topic was the rebuilding of said vehicle, there were lots of photos of the guts of the machine. I've squirrelled these away so in the event I decide to build this icon, I will have some reference material.
