Sunderland To Build Car That Won't Reach Doncaster THE Nissan factory in Sunderland is to produce a new electric car that will be unable to get as far as Doncaster. The Leaf, backed by £21m of taxpayers' money, has been specially designed so that if it is driven out of the factory after rush hour on a Thursday morning it will grind to a state-of-the-art halt on the A1 approximately 100 miles later. A company spokesman said: "It should get you at least as far as Knottingley, if you keep it at 28 all the way and ignore red lights and stuff. "The absolute furthest it would get you is probably about two miles north of Burghwallis, which - as I'm sure everyone would agree - is almost Doncaster. When you phone for a cab tell them to pick you up from the pub." The spokesman admitted it would be difficult to recharge the car in the middle of the South Yorkshire countryside due to Britain's 'scandalous shortage' of incredibly long extension leads. He added: "You may as well just abandon it by the side of the road. But they only cost about twenty thousand quid so you'll probably have at least five of them." The company stressed the car would be more attractive to people who lived in urban areas, close to their place of work who had always wanted to have a long cable running from their third floor kitchen window down into the street like some sort of Action Man death slide. The spokesman said: "We are building up the infrastructure so that in five years time you'll be able to go to Tesco for your weekly shop and then nip into the recharging station for about 16 hours." Meanwhile, the company has developed a range of marketing slogans including 'The Leaf - Quite Good For Sitting In' and 'The Leaf - Because You Hate People So Much You Can't Even Spend 15 Minutes on a Bus'."

And the HOK chrome is in a spray can? -

They say it has a custom radiator cap. One couldn't make this up... -

Considering how much you could chrome-plate with one kit (if it works), I'm not too sure whether the price is out of proportion. Chrometech isn't cheap either and using alclad requires the whole airbrush shebang setup. So yes, I'd be keen to know whether it works, too. -
Charcoal spray can paint for convertible top
Junkman replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is a dark grey primer you could use. Or, if it is flat, and a convertible top, you can brush paint it with flat Humbrol. -
Well, there are two Rambler Wagons for 1960. The Rambler Cross Country Wagon, which is very similar to the Jo-Han '59, and the Rambler American Wagon, which indeed has slight Nomad overtones if you stretch your imagination towards bursting point.

What's with the Gremlin?

Yeah, it's just the natural flow of things, you know. -

I don't doubt that for a second. A Renault 4 would have been a better car for that. In Europe, the Gremlin and the Pacer were just total exotics. You New World people can't understand this, but if you parked a Pacer next to a -say- Ferrari, people would flock around the Pacer. My mother was a fashion designer. Even by the demanding standards set by British intellectuals, you would consider her being outstandingly eccentric. Hence here in Europe, in the Seventies, the Pacer was like tailor made for her. Our's was orange with a golf-course-green interior, so go figure. She knew it was the right car for her and this was the very reason that my attempts to talk her into a Gremlin were futile. The Gremlin was way too sober for her. We had an interesting mix of cars back then. My mother's orange Pacer, my father's canary yellow Renault 16 TX and a yellow Citroen H van for my mother's business. Needless to say that I got beaten up at school for that at regular intervals. It just was too different from the beige VW 1500 or Mercedes 200 everybody else's parents had. -
What's with the Gremlin?
Junkman replied to Matt Bacon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There are people who can't understand the appeal of a Gremlin and there are people who can't understand the appeal of a Hudson Hornet (I belong to the latter). If the same cars would appeal to everyone, the world would be as deprived of automotive diversity, as the German Democratic Republic was. -
If I'm not mistaken (and I don't claim for a second that I am not), the '27 T comes with a Riley four port, no? Be it as it may, the cinder bug has been reissued at least once and I have this reissued kit. I'll try to dig it up next weekend and post pictures.

There are actually quite a few of them. -

Both, the Gremlin and the Pacer were sold through the Renault dealer network in Germany (so was the Rambler a decade earlier btw). I tried everything to convince my mother to buy a Levi's Gremlin, but she went for the Pacer instead. I like them both, the Gremlin and the Pacer. But for some reason I can't pinpoint, the Gremlin managed to make it further into my heart. -
Not only does it have significant collectors value, it is also highly sought after by Model T buffs, since it comes with a Frontenac twin cam cylinder head conversion.

They were also marketed by Heller in Europe. Generally there is nothing wrong with them, apart from that they are way too big for 1/24. They are more 1/22 or something.

The Gremlin most certainly has a special place in my heart, so does the Allegro and Marina. So much in fact, that I do own an Allegro and a Marina. I also wouldn't hesitate for a second, if a real Gremlin came up for sale. One man's meat is another man's poison I guess. -
Is Ira Bulding 1/1 Cars?

AFAIK they are still being built. Or some derivate. Make no mistake, there are versions that easily outrun a Corvette. -
Die Cast Opinions

Of course we don't need one. But it would be nice to have one to make browsing specifically for diecasts easier. -
Not sure where your question is aiming. If you are into show rods they are must haves. Note that the Popcorn Wagon is 1:20 scale (old MPC tool). In the AMT re-issue the rear tyres are too small for my taste, hence I use the ones from the Mummy Machine, which are styrene and the right size. With rear tyres from the kit: With rear tyres from the Mummy Machine:

I just wrote him an email requesting a rubber cap off a valve stem.
