  1. Since you brought up the subject, I'm actually quite surprised that these cars don't find the fancy they deserve with the resin casters. Considering what complex conversions they often come up with, milking the GTOs and 442s would appear to be a comparatively straightforward thing to do for them. But, alas.
  2. I keep mine in a photo album, with these clear 'pages' to protect the photos. It works with decals too. No further treatment necessary.
  3. Gents, What I would like to know is the correct engine colour for a Mercedes-Benz 540K {W29}, i.e. the M 24 II engine. And no, it isn’t as easy as it sounds, I did some research and cannot find a conclusive answer. Years back, I was told (verbally) by an elderly German gentleman, who allegedly worked as a Cartwright apprentice in the Sindelfingen factory, that black enamel was only used on 'exhibition' cars, while 'regular' customer cars' engines were painted DIN 1844 'Maschinengrün', which is RAL 6011 Reseda Green. Unfortunately, the gentleman has passed away a while back, so I am unable to discuss this issue further with him. But his knowledge of the actual paint norms and numbers would confirm the plausibility of what he said. He also claimed that all restored cars he saw had their engines painted black, which is incorrect in his opinion. Can anybody confirm/dismiss/correct this statement? Unfortunately, I can only find contemporary black and white photos or pictures of disgustingly overrestored cars on the internet. None of the latter's engines look anything near authentic to me, what with all this polished and buffed stuff on them. All of the restored ones are enamelled black. There is one picture I found of an engine which looks like the owner did not max out his Platinum VISA Card when restoring it and this one is indeed Reseda Green: Does anybody out there know the facts? Or has proper literature? All I come across is a boatload of hype and folklore about these cars, but very little facts. Cheers, Christian
  4. I would be surprised if there weren't any Hot Rods in Bosnia. Honestly now.
  5. Firestone Supremes out back won't last 10 miles with a 429.
  6. It is a plastic model kit, gazeeks. Don't forget, it's just a bloody plastic model kit. By Jove, a friggin plastic model kit, not the Crown Jewels. Oh, the latter fact might actually make it worth the doh.
  7. I think the last time any of these trucks were produced, the tools were with Heller in France. Now just don't ask. No, don't.
  8. IIRC, I tried to approximate the colour the car on the box had. But this is 35 years ago and I had a lot of drinks and god knows what since.
  9. Right. Who has the ones I'm missing?
  10. Here is what I got. Please don't judge the buildups. These must be among the first kits I ever built. they all need restoration.
  11. There is no LeMans kit, but you could "lemansate" a GTO. Same with the Gutless. You could modify a 442 kit.
  12. Yes, there is a Cougar kit. There also is a ca. '65 custom Corvette. I'll post pics later, when I'm at home. And entirely btw. would you like to include the truck kits too?
  13. Unbuilt kits are meant to be built, built kits are meant to be restored.
  14. The kit looks a lot better than the box art (?) suggests. A Tognotti's T comes to mind...
  15. What do you use to cut diecasts?
  16. This would make it a nice scale model of our real one though.
  17. I was actually thinking about growing some Bonzai corn and try to pop it in one of the dolls house pots of my daughter on an old Märklin dolls stove.
  18. I did not understand how I can post the pictures here.
  19. I'm not sure whether I should post a 1/20 scale build here, or in the Big Boys section. I leave it up to the moderators to move the thread if it is wrong here. I started this a while ago. It is currently stalling, because I sent off a number of parts to Bob Shebilske to have them gold plated. The gold plating supplied with the kit sucks. The wagon is entirely brush painted, like a real one would be: I attempted multicolour flocking. It's not perfect, but turned out better than I feared and actually looks ok: The kit-supplied rear tyres are way too skinny, they seem to be 1/25th scale: Hence I am trying to adapt a set from the Creepy T: One of the biggest challenges remaining, and one I haven't got a solution for yet, is how to make scale popcorn?
  20. There were no 'factory' campers, but there were factory approved camper conversions. The company who made most of these must be Westfalia. Here is a website about an unrestored original one: http://www.ev1.pair.com/VW/SO44_1.html
  21. I can relate to this logic.
  22. Chop them, drop them, hop them!
  23. You remember correctly. And if I remember right, someone out there makes a Daytona conversion in resin. @ elan: How many DOH kits can one own? Well, this makes it already two for me, and none of them will end up being a DOH.
