  1. yeah Jeff this kit is def. a handful , but as a bonus you get a lot of extra parts! I thought it would be similar to the R685 kit ,,but it's got a lot of quirks !
  2. ..............cab is on and hood attached and aligned ,,,started putting on all the do-dads ,I'll do the whole cab and then start adding the details to the packer and then attach it
  3. Thanks Jeff,,,if you haven't already, check out the M&R wheels Brian (BK9300) used on his Western Star plow truck build ,,now those puppies are spot on!
  4. Thanks Brian,,,they were all a pretty rough resin casting but they cleaned up pretty good ,,one of these days I'll spring for a set of M&R wheels after seeing how yours came out !
  5. Call it a U600 then ,,,lol yours looks good Greg ! I can recall seeing a lot of offset cab Mack garbage trucks back in the late 70's-80's -90's...whether they were DM's or U's I can't recall but I would think garbage haulers would spec the DM ,,just to make the trek thru the landfill! If I remember correctly the U models used a single 1/4 inch frame rail, whereas the DM in single frame configuration had a 3/8 frame rail, and the DM in double frame configuration had a 3/8 outer frame rail and a 1/4 inch inner rail. The DM frame is also a much higher section from top to bottom and tapers between the cab and drive axle(s). Most DM's had an 18,000 lb. or 20,000 lb. front axle and 38,000, 44,000, 55,000 or 65,000 lb. tandems or the 38,000 lb single drive axle, usually on 22 inch or 24 inch rubber and most U models shared the same hood as the DM
  6. Chassis is on full rubber now ,driveshaft made up with support bearing..shoulda shortened up the one section to the bearing more ,,it is what it is..and yes it's out of phase,, too quick with the CA,,,,lol, installed the muffler and stack used solder for the exhaust pipe,,,painted the Leach ,,have to add hydraulic hoses and stuff,,,set the body and cab on to see how it looks,,,,I'll have to trim some off the frame in the rear some to get it back further a bit ,,miscalculation on my part 😛 Started painting interior bits.............off to Ossining N.Y. tomorrow to deliver a new ambulance
  7. Thanks Dom,,,,it's gonna be an "independent trash hauler" with a bit of tongue in cheek thrown in ,,,still working on those decals on my ink jet printer
  8. I'm not a 3D printer guy but isn't the print line issue a calibration or how the piece is situated in the printer or how the supports are laid out? Anyway for the couple of 3D print builds I've done with blems ,usually just slight print lines in some areas I've used Mr Surfacer ,,,brush on and sand
  9. I updated the kit engine to spin on oil filters and also added engine mounted and frame mounted primary and secondary fuel filters ,,cab is painted ,,I just sat it on there for the pic,I also used the dash from the R685 kit to update the DM 600 dash which was the early roundish style ,the interior will be the beige/brown traditional Mack colors of that era
  10. Thanks Jeff,,,yeah a couple fuel lines, air and power steering
  11. Thanks Brian,,yes the CTM brake valves,,,I didn't get too carried away ,,just relay valves in the rear and a quick release mounted on the front crossmember...you won't see much of the rears anyway with the body on
  12. The truck looks better with those fenders Gary ,,,more show truck style
  13. Looking good Dom,,Microscale decals has stripes, various widths and colors for trains,,,I've used them on some of my builds Microscale Decals
  14. Those came from Paul ST Supply ,,I have used Jamie from Moluminum also ,,but I doubt if he'll be producing anymore with his health issues ,,recent amputations and I hear getting prosthesis so thats good,,,yeah never know maybe eventually he will be back in the game
  15. I've seen Cat-track material somewhere ...I think R/C stuff ,,,might be worth an innerweb search
  16. I'd stick a 4-53T Detroit in it ,but's thats just me ,,,lol ....nice job
  17. Got the frame lengthened ,I was able to source another DM600 kit that was missing a bunch of parts but had the frame rails ,so I used those ,reinforced with some brass strip. I had these 2 hole Budds for awhile so I thought I'd use them on this ,front end pretty much done with brake chambers, drums and the hubs ,,,on to the rears then we'll throw some air lines in and paint
  18. A little more progress........... Karl's body required the addition of some sheet styrene for floor plates ,,did that so I can determine the fit on the chassis , started some cab work, fitted the pass side hood fender extension and threw some putty at it. Probably cut the frame and get the stretch done this weekend . The engine is assembled and primed ,,just have to spray it Mack engine gold
  19. A little chassis and sub-assembly work,, I'll make my frame cut right after the middle crossmembers
  20. ........still waiting on the day cab conversion kit 😉
