Thanks Pierre, you compliment means a lot. The nice thing about using the AM kit is that I added some details that the transkit omitted, with the work being a lot easier in plastic. Plus, the interior and chassis fit with no alteration, is was part of the kit!

Thanks Trevor. It’s cleared now, two weeks cure and then decals. I can’t wait to put the red stripes on.

Quite a nice collection for the year. I am particularly impressed by the crispness of the builds, very clean.

It’s finally white! Next is to let it cure for a week, then add the blue stripe, some clear and polish. paint is MCW Ermine white.

This chassis is for my next GS build, but it shows the MCG set more clearly. The roadster in this WIP is done the same. Just thought it might help another builder.

Yves, glad to hear you’re building an AM Corvette, not too many builds around. When I started my roadster project, I tried to get a transkit from Harold. No luck, so I converted an AM kit. It turned out well though, as nice as Harold’s resin kit is, there are details not included. Making the mods on the plastic kit is a lot easier than in resin. The kit really isn’t as difficult as you would think. This is my second build and I’ve learned a lot. Feel free to ask if you have a questions, just ask. You can still create a post concerning Harold, someone might know. I do know there no web side, just private communication.

Great to see you on this project. No matter what the subject, I always walk away with new ideas and techniques.

Got past the most difficult (as yet) part of the build, the wind screen. Made some inside moldings from plastic stock so the windscreen has a nest. Right now, it’s white plastic. I have some 0.015” clear, but would like to find some 0.010”. Took some pics of the mock-up, things will fit tighter as it goes along. Added breathers and hoses to the engine. Also the intake on the carb with some screen. It still needs some hose clamps and springs. It’s slow, but I tend to work on a couple of project at the same time.

My build is mostly nostalgia because I originally built the 57 in the 60s. I also have the Drag City top and picked up an unopened 56 last night for $23.00. As far as led’s, I do a lot also, mostly on RC’s. A trick I use might work for you dash lights. Fill the area around the led with a few coats of white glue, this really disperses the light more evenly and gets rid of that strong pin point. A lot of mods you used on your car I will put on mine. Thanks for sharing your build!

First let me say that this is a beautiful build. The many details will make for a showpiece. I am on a similar path, I have an original 57 left over from my youth. I stripped it and the body is perfect. However, I agree the chassis is very Spartan. So looking on the bay store, I found a few kits of the 56 for $30.00 or less. We are talking the American Graffiti version, right. If I may ask, why so reluctant to use it as a doner? I am going that way myself. Also, I picked up a VCG Resins Y-block, quite a little jewel. You can add a resistor in line with your led to dim it down, let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you. Yes, .015” solder was used, it scales out to 3/8” or 9mm, closer to scale. The brown paint needs a bit of touchup. The plan for the A pillar is to add bits of plastic to hold the windscreen and side windows in place. If goes as planned, it will represent the interior moldings.

The interior is done! Some of the added details are the metal guards on the door latch, seat belts, hand brake, metal turn signal lever MCG wheel, fire extinguisher, ignition key. One thing I put some work into was the Wintersteen only fuel pump panel in the center. Those are metal bezels and a gauge decal. Thanks for looking, I appreciate any comments.

Incredible build, right down to the stress marks in the bends of the exhaust pipes. I’m sitting here with a coffee and enjoying looking at the pics, over and over and over……..

One of my favorites! Will be watching this one.

Bored build New inspiration…
Mark W replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I guess bored is as good as any. I generally just slow down on a build. That’s when I switch to another build. Usually there’s about 5 going at once, cars / planes mix. It’s that a new project gives me more ambitions and I make a ton of progress, until……… -
Thanks Greg, I hope you will see it done! I like you quote “Before I joined this forum, I thought #600 was darn fine sandpaper” I could have said that myself!

Thanks Mike, as they say, slow but sure.

Me too Phil, I can’t wait till it’s setting on it’s wheels.

Thanks Pierre, still need to add the Traco label. Just a few tiny defects to fix and she’ll be ready for paint.

Getting very close to paint on this one. The photos show the final rear fender shape (rev 3), the tips were extended and the edges softened. The front parking lights (rev 2), material removed and inside edges curved. Finally got the rear deck and roll bar done. Scoops and re-scribed trunk. Lastly, some progress on the engine. Thanks for looking!

This is a small detail but it took a lot of work. As Shark pointed out, the rear fender flair is very wrong on the AM kit. Drivers side is nearly done, just need to fix a few scratches. The other side is close behind. Small, as I said but I think it will look much better on the finished model.

Excellent job on really in-scale details. If you ever get a chance, would appreciate some details on the door/trunk/hood hinges. Always looking for new ways of doing things.

When I was 17 I owned a 1962 Impala 327. It was just 10 years old and didn’t look as nice as this. Beautiful job. The lettering on the radiator hose, something I could never do. Care to share the method?
