Thanks for the info. I will definitely pick some of that up and give it a try!

I picked this kit up off Amazon, and really enjoyed building it. I’m happiest with the interior. I picked up some flocking powder for cheap and am very happy with how it turned out. One thing I struggled with was the front and rear bumpers. I messed up the front windshield also, so ended up pulling it and tossing it out. Any tips to make installing windshields and back windows would be appreciated.

I was away working. I made a bit of a mess of the paint job, so I’m going to try to weather it a bit and make it more of a rusted paint job.

I have this kit in my stash, so I decided to open it up and check the quality. Apart from one small piece the flash is quite minimal.

I am away for work for 2 weeks, but I will provide any photos you want when I get back.

Picked it up for a decent price. This is my first Tamiya build and so far I’m really impressed with the fit and finish. Going to paint it coral blue (TS-41) with the long term goal of having a VW Samba built with the same colour.

WOW. That’s a gorgeous looking build.

That makes sense. I was frustrated with the instructions, but that’s the growing pains with a new(ish)hobby.

I had never built an AMT model prior to picking this one up. The amount of customization is great, with 3 different models you can build. It also includes multiple sets of rims, and 2 motors. as far as the mold goes, there was quite a bit of work to clean up excess plastic. The numbers were also impossible to see(didn’t matter though). The chrome pieces were also poorly done and difficult to differentiate one from another. The instructions were absolutely terrible, with the schematics making no reference to part numbers, which made it a guessing game due to the similarity of different parts. The fit/finish was alright. However, the side access panel for the motor wouldn’t close due to the fender being in the way. Maybe that’s normal though? i just returned to the model hobby so I’m not sure if this is a common thing for AMT? I found the revell to be much more detailed, with easy to follow instructions. I have yet to build a Tamiya, but I’ve heard good things.

I’ve tried straight bleach to remove the chrome from the rims of an AMT model and had no luck.

That's some great work on the woodgrain dash trim. How did you do it?

Wow. The detail is absolutely unbelievable.

First model i've built in awhile. I used Tamiya Brilliant Orange Spray (TS56) and a rust oleum clear coat which was semi-gloss. I wish I had used gloss, but I had the semi laying around so that's what I used. I never primed before paint, but I think going forward I will. The decals were the trickiest part to install and I now know why they include extra decals with the kits. The rest was all brush paint using the Vallejo Model line. Any feedback, tips or info is greatly appreciated.

That looks amazing.

These are all great ideas. This will save me from wasting money on a Tamiya one. Thanks!

Just got back into model building. I love how relaxing it is to just sit back and create something from some plastic spues. I built models when I was younger, but now that I'm older I find I enjoy it more and have a lot more patience. Looking forward to learning some skills and being inspired by the builds that I see on this site.
