Zenki refers to the front end of the AE86 he bought. They came in either 'Kouki' or 'Zenki'. I believe that the 'Kouki' front came first and the 'Zenki' front came second. Fujiwara I believe is the sushi shop from the 'Initial D' Anime series. I got a DML Panther G with Eduard photo-etch Zimmerat(sp??) from a trade with Matt Leblanc earlier last week or so. From the junkyard, I picked up a set of Bosch yellow fogs from a Mercedes for the 1:1 Celica. This weekend, if the guy accepts my offer, I may be getting yet another 77 celica GT. It is a little rough though... Thankfully, my celica stash is almost as big as my model stash!!!

Glad to hear that, thought I was gonna have to go broke stocking up on the Dodge COE trucks.

At times like these I think about the family guy episode where Stewie and Brian go through Germany. When the tour guide skips 1939-1945 and Brian confronts him about it, the tour guide goes crazy shouting that the entire country was on vacation...

I got sucked in as well. I guess it was more from a personal connection with the plane. My grandmother was an early pioneer of aviation in Mass. She was one of the first women (actually, I think she was the third) to get a pilot's license in that state. She flew out of Dennison airport, the same airport that one of the Enola Gay pilots flew out of. I can never remember if it was Col. Tibbets or the co-pilot. They also went to high school at the same high school my mother did. She has pictures in one of her yearbooks of them. Being the pioneer that she was opened a lot of doors to my grandmother and as a result, those doors were open to me as well. We got to go on a personal tour of Rhinebeck Aerodrome in northern New York state. We also got a personal tour of the Garber facility, which, at the time, was restoring the forward fuselage of the Enola Gay for display at a special exhibit in the NASM. When that exhibit opened, my grandmother took me back to the NASM to see it. She passed a few short years later. So, weirdly enough, the Enola Gay brings back fond memories of my Nana to me. To see it fly again would be incredible. I know to that if it did fly, where ever she is, Nana would be smiling at it. On a side not, I have gotten to see and climb around 'FiFi' back when she was flying.

Not a lot of cars(2) but a lot of fun
Ken replied to Pete J.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I love the egg planes. I finally broke down and bought the P-47. It sits in the stash just awaiting its time on the bench. Maybe I will crank it out over the weekend. Shouldn't take even that long. Did you scratchbuild the BMW or is it a kit? -
The only reason I think the fronts look like Cragars is the spokes are flat. The rears definitely look like TTs. I have thought about just enlarging the Cragars. I do have a couple of sets of the 19 and 23 TTs, so that is a possibility as well. I got a year, so I can work it out and see which one looks better.

Yeah, I posted it a long time ago. Not much has been done to it since then. I have hit a stumbling block with the rear window treatment. Lots and lots of mods to that one. I will PM you about it to keep from cluttering up Raul's incredible build thread with my horrible skills

Having problems starting mine. Basically, do I use the Revell Thom Taylor 34 or the AMT 34. I am leaning towards the AMT as the molding is a bit better. Both of my copies of the Revell kit have molding issues with the bead on the outside of the fender arches. This is my artwork. As you can see, the beads on the outsides of the fenders is very prominent in the illustration. On my Revell kits, that bead is almost gone on both sets of fenders. The AMT kit has much crisper moldings. Is the Revell kit 1/24 or 1/25? I could use the Revell body with the AMT fenders... I am rambling too much For rolling stock, I believe I will be using the Cragars out of the 37 Ford coupe kit. In the illustration, the fronts look like Cragars, the rears look like Torque Thrust IIs. I am going with Cragars all around. The tires suspicously look like the TRXs found in most of the Monogram muscle car kits of the 90s, but I will be using the Goodyear Bluestreaks that replaced them. Anybody know where I can grab some surf boards? Didn't the Revell 31 sedan have a couple?

Outstanding work Raul!!!! I was a bit hesitant when you started, but you are knocking this one out of the park!! The kit chassis fits under a ton of stuff. It may need a bit of tweaking to get it to fit, but that is not hard. The frame is easy to shorten or lengthen due to the nice straight rails. I have shortened it to fit under the Revell new Willys You can see the frame in the above pics. Since the frame rails are straight it is easy to mate them back together and not get anything twisted or crooked. Wheels in the above pics are out of the Phantom Vickie kit, which is another great kit for both building and parts robbing.

Great, I will start planning for the 66 Galaxie I have in the stash My Porsche is street legal, but only seats one...

You're fine Harry. I tried to post to it this morning and it must have been right as you were moving it. When I clicked the post button, it came back with a 'no such topic' error. That is what started the whole thing. I found it quite comical. A nice light start to the morning. Thanks for the giggles

SWEET!!!! I had one of these as a kid. I believe that my parents still have the 'stick shift' part. As I remember, it was great for launching cars off the top of the stairs. If you got a good whack at it, sometimes, with the right car you could get it to go clear across to the other side of the upstairs balcony! All I got this week was a can of citrus yellow testors, some K&S music wire(on clearance for .49$ a pack) and the contest issue of MCM!

I maybe crazy and most likely am, but these pics suspiciously look like they were taken at a 'workbench' Now mind you, they are much cleaner than mine and most others benches and may in fact be hoaxes. Until proof is given that they weren't taken at a workbench, I think it should be taken a face value...

That is what I figured, but I will still keep building it. Freaked me out just a minute ago... could have sworn this topic was in the 'On the workbench' area. Now it is in the general area... did I pull a Doctor Who?

Okay, does it have to be an actual Gr. 5 racer? Can I build a Gr.5 inspired road car. Here is what I am thinking of building a tribute-esque model of... http://speedhunters.com/archive/2009/11/12/car-feature-gt-gt-rauh-welt-natty-dread.aspx

I found the article on that custom. http://www.customrodder.com/features/0503cr_custom_thunderbird/index.html Seems the roof is a blend of 59 caddy backlight for the windshield and reworked C-pillars and an undescribed second backlight for the actual backlight of the car. It is called in the article Australia's wildest custom. After actually reading the article, the backlight on the car is another 59 caddy backlight.

Hey Tony, I tried to PM you about the Sidewinder wheels. I have a set kicking around that I can send your way if need be. Ken

Hey, I wanna join! I am gonna build this car... I got the starting point... I think I may not meet the deadline though!!! No way I could do it, but it would be so cool to tool around town in that blue car!!! I would join the build for real, but I got way too much else going on. I will watch this thread though. Some super work on some incredible cars.

New Automotive Styling Trend?
Ken replied to Modelmartin's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The internet 'lore' on the 'corvette from hell' is that it was won in a card game and so the driver decided to just make it horrible. Latest update on the corvette is that it is in the shop to get a progear supercharger!!! The paint has changed a bit as well. Jalopnik.com has a bunch of blogs on the car. -
The Jairus Watson Artwork Challenge
Ken replied to Fletch's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, it is, but I never realized it till now. Having a couple of Big Lots near by and 5 or 6 Hobby Lobby stores doesn't help. A lot were bought in the clearance isles as part donors and such. Doesn't help that I like to build the occasional plane or tank either. Dug around one of the sheds this morning and found the Thom Taylor 34. I also discovered that during the winter, a large branch had fallen on one of the sheds and dented the roof. Luckily, most of the models were on the other side of shed from the hole. A couple of my 1/8th 32 fords are soaked though. Good thing I store my decals inside. Boxes are toast, but the plastic is fine. Just need some really large bags! -
Heck, my cats do that when I am home!!!! You know, I never know how to respond to these types of threads with out sounding trite. I do send my condolences your way. Losing one of our little buddies is always hard. We have had to put down 3 cats in the last 4-5 months and had one die of a heart attack in my wife's arms. It is never easy, probably one of the hardest things I have ever and will ever have to do. My heart breaks with yours. You did the best thing for her and that was stay with her to the end. I understand completely the 'time to walk the dog' feeling. We ended up giving away some of the cat's beds and such. No one else was sleeping in them and I kept checking to see if they were in there. Just remember the fun she brought. As trite as it sounds, it seems to help me.
