Beautiful work Alan - really like that axle in particular! -
Intriguing!

Interesting! Thanks Joe! That gives me an idea!

I wonder if paint would make a good resist for this process? Someone with a vinyl / scrapbook cutter could make masks and just spray through them - simplifying the process somewhat compared to the process of printing, using a UV light etc etc Joe - when you mentioned using a Sharpie, would you use it on both sides of the material or just one?

I ordered a catalogue from them (this was a while back, I think I had to pay a couple of bucks or so) and then just called up and ordered and paid on my card - they came really quickly too! Great service!

Thanks for the fast reply Dave!

Would this limit have anything to do with Fotki images not loading correctly in threads currently Dave? Like this one, for example: A lot of the pictures are missing, but the links lead to valid working photos (and if you quote a post with missing images they’ll appear ok in the editor). It seems like the page loads for a few seconds and then often stops before all the images are loaded, even if the links are good. Thanks for all you do for the site BTW - sorry to flag an issue!
-
Just an experiment to see if quoting a post gets the pics to reappear...sorry for the multiple posts!
-
Pic links reinstated (or at least working for now...)
-
Without being a techie guy, I suspect it’s a forum issue rather than a Fotki issue. Mine are doing the same, but only on this site and not on other forums I post the same pictures to. The pictures you post are working fine on fotki’s end - when I quote a post with missing pictures I can see them, and when I copy the link to the pictures into a new tab in my browser I can see them just fine. All that said, great build Steve! Love it!! It’s worth the effort to get to see the pics ??? Those carbs looks INCREDIBLE! Like you say; I can’t wait to see them with some additional detailing!

Tamiya 1/24 Mazda Savanna RX-7 - 1st Generation Rotary Rocket

Awesome! -
Actually, the scene where the guy's building the Tamiya Williams F1 car is pretty cool! I was scanning the other builds in the background as I was watching it to see what else the guy had made (NSFW video below - there's some bad language....and a nice vintage Tamiya kit getting ruined)
-
Fun fact - that strip club that they used for the interior scenes in the Bada Bing got closed down for a while last year.... ...because of mob-related activities This should be a cool build! As a big Sopranos fan I'll be watching! Shame there weren't more cool cars in the show; probably Livia's old Impala and Johnny Sack's Maserati were the two coolest

I remember that one! I'd also like to see an early Miata built by you, if you're taking requests (which you weren't :D) -
Spent a while trying to find the perfect blue for this - I wanted something a bit deeper than the standard 'Ford Dark Blue' - I tried a few concotions with the airbrush paints I had around here but they weren't quite right. My wife wanted to run to CVS last night though, and I spotted this...perfect! I misted it on nice and light for the first couple of coats, to make sure I wasn't going to have any crazing or weird issues...seemed ok! And after seven or eight coats (with some wetsanding in-between) we've got a blue body! I tried to keep the pressure low on the airbrush to stop that graining that you get when you shoot it, and it mostly worked - its a little lumpy in a couple of spots (and almost completely flat in finish from adding the thinner) but I'm going to let it harden, wet sand it back once more and then hit it with some clear! More soon!
-
Got some primer on the body today - I've been looking forward to this bit! Just a couple of spots that need some work, but it's ready for another coat and then hopefully paint!

I never saw it, but maybe! I assumed years of working in a dirty smelly Brooklyn dive-bar just pickled his English somewhat I'm having enough trouble figuring out the Italian-American-English that they all speak in our new neighborhood -
Crazy prices on the auction Bay.

Hopefully not a bunch of old sprue re-shrinkwrapped in the original kit box -

But "I snooked up on him" sounds weird A conversation in my local bar recently: Bartender: "Did you hear about Joey? He drank and driv' and got caught" Customer: "He did whaaa?" Bartender: "He DRANK, then he DRAVE!" ?? (Just trying to get conversation loosely back to cars here ) -
Same for me - not sure if it's a Fotki issue or a forum issue...although they always display ok when I post them on other sites so who knows. They're showing for me now anyway!

Drilled out the moulded-in bolt on the oilpan and replaced it with one from a model railroad bolt set (complete with rubber seal): The lower front of the engine is mostly hidden when it's installed, but I added the bolt detail that the kit misses anyway...plus some PE bolt heads to hold the pulleys on: Still plenty to go, but its starting to look like an engine! Need to tighten those head bolts to squash that gasket down a little More soon, soon as I've done more!
-
Thanks Dennis! A little update, seeing as I'm getting some stuff one on this... Got the engine painted, having ground off that lower hose that runs to the rad and scratchbuilt another. I made some rubber hose end-pieces and used the smallest diameter solder I could find to make some hose clamps (see Mchook's pic of a 1:1 above to see roughly what I was aiming for...) Got the head detailed with PE bolts and installed (with gasket between it and the block):

That looks really cool!
