  1. Thanks for all the nice replies everyone! Cool story Tom - do you have a pic of the car in the green? That would make a fun replica - little hand print and all ? David - great photo, thanks for sharing! I loved seeing it! Got a little more done on this one...started the foiling on the body (4 hours in and counting...): Plus a little chrome on the interior tub - it won’t be very visible anyway when the car’s done but I can see it NOW so I spent some time on getting that decent at least: And then today I spent some time on the seats, adding some pastels to give the leather a little age and depth, some more BMF on that little ashtray in the center of the rear bench and some lapbelts made with medical tape: As far as I can tell these cars didn’t come with lapbelts (I think?), but also the door panels don’t look anything like any of the reference photos I’ve found online for 53 year cars either, so my “factory stock ish” take on this car still holds together ok ? More soon, soon as I’ve done more!
  2. YES! I totally forgot about that! The editor at the time would edit the posts too, as though he was editing the magazine! You’d find “edited for length” or something written at the bottom and 75% of the text in your post would be gone, often leaving it nonsensical and confusing ?. Unless you were posting about Vega Kammbachs that is.., Anyway, I’m sure this thread itself will be locked soon as it’s not really relevant to MCM...but it’s fun to remember some of the funny stuff that happened there in the name of moderation. That’s probably why a fair few of us are here, right? Their loss, and I’m glad this place exists!
  3. I don’t get it...I tried looking at their site to see what the reference was but it wouldn’t load ???
  4. Yep ? Another funny one - I once accidentally sprayed a little paint on my glasses whilst working on something - it was either Testors or Tamiya, one of the made-for-modellers type products. Just a little overspray on one of the lenses but I didn’t want to risk ruining them by using the wrong thing to remove it. I posted a thread on there explaining that I’d sprayed this model paint on my glasses and asked for advice and ideas on what would remove it without damaging the lenses...or at least be friendly to the plastic without resorting to dumping my glasses in the Purple Pond. I got a message not 15 minutes later saying “this is a modelling forum not an opticians forum” and had my post removed ???
  5. Just got these today - anyone know who makes (made?) them? 1:25 blowers cast in metal
  6. Although I haven’t built this particular one I’ve built some of the others in the series...I’ll be watching!
  7. And...done! Ended up being nine pieces in this little speaker ?. I’m only doing it to distract me from knowing I have to foil all those bits of trim inside the interior tub next ??
  8. There was another one in the same lot...couldn’t get a good photo of it because it was almost directly under the train but it looks like a sedan of some sort... I’ll be SUPER impressed if anyone figures that one out ??
  9. I know we’re getting off topic here...but good tip on Ruby’s! Had a nice meal and a couple of drinks at the bar today! Freak bar was closed for a private event - will try that another day!
  10. It’s Halloween so it must be time to get those hearses out of storage ?‍♂️ Not on the road, but spotted this cool Harley pushbike today - I would’ve LOVED this as a kid Just caught this nice Elky driving by - sounded nice! And spotted this intriguing looking SOMETHING under a tarp...any guesses as to what’s under there? Vette maybe?
  11. I used to post on there years ago - back when they had a rule banning more than three photos per post (apparently to save their bandwidth) I photoshopped 4 larger photos into one regular-sized-image to further help save their bandwidth and got banned for “circumventing the rules” ???
  12. Thanks buddy! I found a great video online of a walk-around of one of these...I haven’t been able to find as many good reference pictures as I would like to this has been invaluable... About half-way through they talk about the rear speaker on the back shelf, which I thought was a really cool feature...I’m not sure if that was standard or an option or just on certain models, but the AMT kit doesn’t model that so I figured that’d be a fun Saturday project. Using the video as reference I make the approximate shape in my vinyl cutter software: And then ran to the dollar store to pick up a sheet of their $1 styrene sheet ? A quick cut later... ...and we’ve got this! I made the Studebaker ‘S’ a seperate piece and whilst I had the cutter fired up I had it cut a fabric insert to replicate a cloth cover for the speaker: I’ve just shot the parts with some primer and paint and once it’s good and dry I can insert the cloth piece, add the letter and add some photoetch screw heads to match the 1:1 part. I had to take some liberties with the thickness of the letter to make it possible to cut it and the dimensions are approximate because I couldn’t find any other pics for reference - but it’s a fun little detail to add to the interior that you’ll be able to see through the rear window pretty easily when the car’s assembled. More soon, soon as the paint dries!
  13. A little more progress on this one - did some work on the engine this week - added a few little details, did some detail painting and got it pretty much wrapped up except for the air filter; And got all the interior pieces prepped and into their red paint - plenty of detail painting and stuff to go on these but it’s cool to see them in color! This red is a little bright compared to the factory color I think...but it’ll dull down some once I brush some pastels into the nooks and crannies and start breaking all that red up with the chrome and so on. More soon, soon as I’ve done more!
  14. I was just reading about that! The makers of the world’s pinkest pink also don’t seem to like him either: http://stuartsemple.com/project/worlds-pinkest-pink-50g-powdered-paint-stuart-semple/ ??‍♂️
  15. One of the best models I’ve ever seen - and I’m so thankful that you’ve shown all the steps in it coming together. Can’t wait to see what’s next...what IS next?
  16. A couple of sightings from on my block this past week - I’d take the Vette, but the Monte is probably a fun drive too!
  17. There’s some joke about using aftermarket parts there I’m sure
  18. I’m gonna pick some up I think and experiment - you can get a sheet (enough for probably 10 cars) for a couple of bucks on eBay and cut some out on my cutter. Could even make them with curved edges so they just attach right to the outside of the glass
  19. These new ads on the site can’t seem to tell the difference between models and models either ?
  20. I'd try this with Matt black sign writer's vinyl - it looks like a sheet of rubber, is easily cut, sticks for years and doesn't have the thickness of paper or electrical tape.
  21. Those are really cool - thanks for sharing Tim! Really interesting to read the history and reason behind the formation of the NNL events...now I wanna dig out that old magazine and read that angry editorial
  22. A couple of sightings from around the block this weekend - the Alfa is cool! Kinda beautiful and ugly all at once ?
  23. Thanks buddy! Mini update - got plug wires in there and a few bits attached to the block. I used some Detail Master wire (with a thicker wire from an old phone charger for the plug boots) and scratchbuilt a distributor...And a quick inspection of the paint on the body that I shot yesterday shows nothing much in the way of dust or other nonsense in my nice finish - a tricky thing to achieve shooting in a New York apartment with nowhere good to paint! More soon, soon as I’ve done more ?
  24. Thanks Dave! It’s cool that you guys are so proactive about this stuff and willing to tweak things
  25. Thanks for all the comments everyone - cool gasser Disco! The humidity was really high this week which slowed me down a little in getting the body color laid down...but it dropped to 55% today from 85% and I managed to get some spraying done: I bare metal foiled the decals on the body before I shot the paint, after I saw a technique Steven Guthmiller recommended in a thread here - hoping I can pull it off! I prepped a bunch of pieces and got them in primer ready for paint - the interior tub’s primed, most of the engine parts are done and this thing should go together pretty smoothly all being well seeing as I’m building it pretty much out of the box. I’m adding a little detail here and there though, like replacing the levers on the steering column with a little scratchbuilt assembly: More soon, soon as I’ve done more!
