What did you see on the road today?
OldNYJim replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
He’s got you there, @Tabbysdaddy 😂😂 -
I googled twice, out of curiosity…I think it lied to me two different times: Guess I’ll have to go and dig out the magazine here somewhere and find the actual answer 😫😂

Huh - I never thought of using a Beer Wagon part for a ‘serious’ build…but I should pull mine off the shelf and lookit Rear axle probably isn’t super useful for kitbashing tho 😂 Great build so far!! Excited to see this one come together!!

I’ve been to the UK and they absolutely have regular semis driving on regular roads just like we have. Most of their roads and highways seem about comparable to any highway we have here…I don’t think it’s some scaled-down mystical land filled with hobbits and Oompa Lumpas and tiny cars despite what anyone says… Back on topic - nice Maserati of some kind in Chicago today. Sounded MEAN starting up in the 0 degree weather there today… -
AMAZING work. I assume the scratches in the tree are relevant to the case, and that you can’t mention if they are or aren’t? 😂 I had no idea that courts used this kind of prop…I’m sure it wasn’t cheap. Really interesting piece! Is the carving all by-hand, or is any digital creation used? I lay out 3d files for foam carving, for example, pretty regularly for my job, and a digital scan of the real subject followed by CNC routing is probably how I would’ve tried tackling this, if it were me…

That is OUTSTANDING craftsmanship - really really nice work. And a LOT of work too - was the requirement to make headlight lenses that aren’t available from kits because of a unique size or design? Or just as an engineering challenge? I assume there aren’t a bunch of 1/4 scale kits to pull parts from… Either way - impressive!

I’ve got on REALLY well with this Army Miniature stuff lately…HUGE can for similar price to Tamiya’s primer, designed for plastic models, covers ANYTHING in one coat, dries fast, lays on thin…can’t recommend it enough. https://a.co/d/ggBfM6i Their black is great too…and I want to try the tinted primers that they carry also -

Ahh - I did post it as a story on there, I may not have been the only one, ha! Yeah…the snow’s not doing this thing any harm 😂 -
I love when I get to do car stuff as part of my usual work…this is, apparently, some kind of display model Vette that was designed to be mounted to the roof of a Chevy dealer, or possibly to a sign: It has a specially fabricated square tube steel frame underneath that allows it to be mounted to a whatever with a match-plate. No axles under there, or motor or trans…kinda an interesting piece! Not much of anything under body - interior is somewhat complete…it DOES have carpet in the trunk for some reason. I’d love to find out if there’s a bunch of these, or what it’s story is…

I think PT Cruisers are cool! I’d drive one. Definitely if it was lowered and had the cool woody kit people used to put on them -
Thank you!! A little more on this one, sponsored by 6 inches of snow… I’m messing with oil washes lately - both for weathering and adding depth to parts; I didn’t master it yet, but it definitely adds some grime and used-looking-ness to stuff like frames and mechanical components: The engine got the same treatment; got some assembly done far enough that I can get it mounted to the frame: Next sub-assembly that needs some proper attention is the interior; first step there is to get the carpet in. Folk Art makes flocking kits in a bunch of colors, and one of them is a nice blue that will match the body color(s). First step is a tinted glue: Let that set for an hour, then apply a second coat (like a contact adhesive) and then apply powder: Let set for another hour and then knock loose the excess and that’s the carpet laid: While the glue was drying, came up for a name for this build and painted it on the surfboard: Drew up and printed matching license plates: And I had the idea of a Tiki shiftknob…it’s pretty tiny and hard to photograph: I gave the shifter a wash of black and then brushed on some candy blue…I’ll need to brush paint some of the tiny detail and probably drybrush the rest: Next major job is polishing out the body, plus some more detailing on the interior and floorpan…thanks for looking, more soon, soon as I’ve done more!

Thanks fellas! That wasn’t really by design…those were just the ones I had in stock of the colors I wanted 😂 Them all being acrylics definitely helps… A little progress while I’m working thru clearcoating the body…painted a bunch of chrome stuff. The engine in particular needed some tricky masking but Silly Putty made fairly painless work of it… I still need to paint all the ancillary stuff for the engine, but I started making a few upgrades on my lathe, plus a little mounting bracket for the coil from some sheet aluminum and a couple of photoetch fasteners: And the suitcase needed a couple of decals; the Deutschland decal from the kit doesn’t want to snuggle down but some Microsol should fix that… Working through a bunch of little stuff this weekend so I can start getting some sub-assemblies together - fortunately we’re predicted a foot of snow tomorrow so I’ll have a decent excuse for a bunch of bench time hopefully…more soon, soon as I’ve done more!

I can’t tell from the pics if that texture after sanding is where the SMS crazed the plastic…but either way, I concur, definitely prime again. Likely sand again after priming (if it isn’t smooth and ready to go) then prime again
