  1. Hi, everyone. I am building a pretty wild and super detailed pulling truck and I have designed a paint scheme to match these crazy performance machines. The scheme is as follows... and I think it's going to be gorgeous and super flashy. Pearl purple will be the main body color over a white pearl base, a canted tear graphic, probably left in base pearl white, striped in pearl orange, and a pearl white and black checkered flag behind it with purple faded over to blend. I have some masks for the tear and flag graphics, but with the complexity of things, I am not quite sure where to start once the white pearl is laid down. Should I start with laying down the flag graphic first, then put the tear over top of it, cut the mask around the edge of the tear and paint in my black before doing the tear graphic? The illusion is to show the flag behind the graphic. I was always told to and always have been painting lightest to darkest, but I feel this will be painted more in terms of doing a lowrider type scheme where you paint the top layers first and the final color would be your body color. I guess I am not 100% on how to approach this and I really don't want to screw this body up ad I have already done a ton of scratch work to it. I am a little intimidated to just fly by the seat of my pants and experiment like I normally would.
  2. Thank you, everyone for the kind welcome. Can anyone direct me to how I can I get a post moved to it's proper location?
  3. I got some more work in today. I shot a few coats of pearl orange over top of white primer. I got the wheels shot in spaz stix chrome over a gloss black backer. I like the way that spaz stix looks more like a billet or near polished aluminum look vs the AK or Revell chrome that I would have used if I wanted a more realistic chrome effect. I am pretty happy with the results after a quick photo mock-up. Things are moving along nicely. I just need to gloss coat it and then I can start some actual assembly work.
  4. Thank you. I really enjoy the hobby.
  5. Hi, everyone. My name is Dan and I live in South Eastern South Dakota. I am a new member to the forum after years of creeping the site. I have been building model kits almost non-stop since I was 8. I used to be all over social media sites sharing mostly armor and aircraft, but I started building cars and trucks again, about two years ago. I will build just about anything and everything except for ships. I build about 95% of my stuff off a specific subject and I dive head first into researching every little detail. I rarely ever build anything straight out of the box and I have recently started 3d printing lots of stuff. Super detailing, accuracy, and precision are what I strive for in all my builds.
  6. Thanks for your comment and sharing that, as well. I am going to try and make the velocity stack out of aluminum can and will be using miliput on the supplied seat so it's accurate. As far as this Monogram kit goes, it's pretty dang close and won't need much other than detailing. I might throw the front and rear glass in my vacuform to give it the proper polycarbonate look with .010 clear sheet.
  7. Very beautiful truck, Steve. You never cease to amaze me. I have a very similar build in the works. Different motor and wheels, but essentially identical in project route. Slammed Blazers are the best Blazers.
  8. This is my current build project. I have a Moebius 1972 Ford F250 Ranger on a 3d printed puller tube chassis with a 3d printed 460 BBF blown methanol injection setup just like the real deal. I have added a lot of scratch built and 3d printed accessories to make this as accurate as I can get it.
  9. I got some work in on the engine. 3d printed carburetor and scratch built oil breathers.
  10. I just started this consignment build for a buddy that beat his second bout with cancer and just getting back to modeling after a long break. I hope this inspires him to get back to where he was before the battle. This GT350R replica will be period correct in every aspect, trying to replicate every little detail my hands and eyes can muster. There will be quite a bit of multi media going into it. Scratch building, 3d resin and some photo etch to tie it all together. I'll add photos as I progress.
