  1. Thanks mate, saves a bit of coin. Don
  2. Nice save Bill, you were saying about having to rescribe, I don't have a scribe tool, should I get one, or can I use a blade? Don
  3. Thanks Les, normally just the post.
  4. For anyone getting into model car building or like me re-entering it, this is a dangerous and confusing subject. You really need to be a chemist to understand this stuff, me, I'll just take what I can onboard and go the trial-and-error route. I'll just have to take the chance on a few mistakes, like crazing and wear the consequences. Can crazing be repaired with sanding? I never experienced this way back when, maybe it didn't happen then with different materials. Don
  5. Does this show the "thread", or just that post?
  6. Thanks for the plain explanation, Steve. I read a lot on here and the 'net about this and am really confused as to what and how to do/use. Some say you have to use hardener or the paint won't cure others say no, then there's levelling, and and, it goes on and on and so many different products, boing, my brain just seized, too much information. I'm about to paint my first body, so I'll go with what you have recommended here and cross my fingers. πŸ™„ New question, how do I save a post, it's a pain having to go back and try to find one with info you want to keep. Thanks. Don
  7. Thanks Luke, I tried Woolworths, Coles and a couple of places that supply picnic and catering supplies, all told me not available anymore. Usually eBay want to charge you six to eight bucks delivery. Today I bought a pack of plastic containers, thought I'd try them and see if they work, the lid Don
  8. yep good idea, unfortunately for Aussie builders, plastic spoons are not available in Australia, banned - bad for the environment. Everything plastic is being phased out here
  9. I'll have to go change my shirt, mate, I'm drooling. 😁
  10. Oh my, I can see a lot more builds coming up Bill. That Hudson looks a treat, as do all of them. Have to add them to my growing list. Don
  11. Thanks David I will
  12. Thank you Trev, nice to be inducted into the hall of Car modelers. 😁Does my name go on the wall in blood? Don
  13. Well I got going today guys. My original idea of body prep first, went out the window when I realized I didn't have any primer. So I started with the engine, got it half done before I made a serious attempt to cut the end of my left-hand index finger. After stemming the blood flow, those scalpel tools make a nice deep cut, it was time to feed the hungry mob, we have six dogs, my wife is a collector, two Labs, two Bassets, a French Std Poodle and a Cavileer King Charles, oh I nearly forgot, three Ragdoll cats, and a partridge in a ..........................forget it, I'm in no mood to sing.πŸ™„ Don
  14. Thanks Alan, I'm not too bad off for tools, having been doing some MRR for my grandson, and I added a few more in the last few weeks. I bought that one you have recommended, good starting point for model car building. Thankis for the welcome and advice. Don
  15. I haven't been back long enough to be able to make a judgement Janice Don
  16. Don't know Moebius Tm, I'm a new boy LOL, haven't caught up yet Don
  17. Thanks Michael. Sounds like a plan to me. As Greg said, cleaning out your airbrush to do small parts, nah I don't think so, too much work, I'll brush 'em. I have fine primer for the body. Don
  18. Thanks, Alan for the advice and encouragement. It's a bit of a jump from MRR to model cars. My main problem is the paint side of it, so bloody confusing and can be a disaster. Well it is what it is, and if I muck it up, well I try again and again and again LOL. Here goes Don
  19. Thanks Brian. I not too bad at working things out, and as I said in a previous post, I decided to prep my body which I think is step 6, so it can dry, and I can get on with painting other parts. Don
  20. Found it, it's a no name brand, but I guess CA is CA and should work.
  21. Thanks Greg, I'm trying to get as right as I can from the start, don't want to do something and get a comment, oh no what you should have done....but that's good as well, as you know what to do next time. Don
  22. Thanks Bill. As I've been away from the hobby for so long, it's good to get some catchup info. I'm a bit of a "rodder" fan, and have the '29 Ford A to build somewhere along the line after my current '40 build. I'll see how that goes first. Don
  23. My paints, are varied, having been messing about with model railroading for a bit for my grandson, but I have Mr Color, Tamiya, Humbrol, Fansart, Mont Marte, and a fair collection of probably cheaper ones that I used in the MRR construction. My airbrush is a Paasche Talon, and may I ask, do you guys airbrush very small parts, like engine starter motors and the like, or just brush them. Scenery painting as in MRR is a lot different to the detail work required for building model cars, so I also have a lot to learn about fine painting for models. Thanks Don
  24. Thanks David, it will be a bit of a slow one, having been absent from the car modeling scene for so long, so you'll need to be very patient. Don
  25. Thanks Steve, I was really interested in what you guys thought re what kits had improved over the years, and from my own observations, not having been involved in it for so long, what the differences/improvement had been in that period. Don
