Display/Storage - How do you do it
Donny replied to Donny's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not going to be much building going on for a bit mate, bit of building cars, bit of shelves, but don't get "burn out". π Those cases are worth a fortune here, the cheapest is AU$38.80. Don -

Really nice display Jim, should be really great when you get it finished, particularly with lights. Tell me, are all those boxes at the bottom still kits to be built? Yer gonna need a lot of shelves mate. π Don -

Sorry Peter, got a bit confused as to where to post it, thought it was a discussion topic As always, please be respectful. I don't consider that error to be disrespectful, just an error in posting. The heading is Magazine News and Discussions. -
Morning guys, I am nearing the end of the initial journey, still a little bit to go, a few more days should see it completed. So far, It's not too bad, but not as good as I hoped. Anyway onward and upward as they say. The construction side was quite good, I didn't run into too many problems, but the paint, different story, that's a real skill, and I need a LOT of practice. I've included a few pics, and if you are wondering about the last two, the container with the car in it, is just what I do to preserve them as I build, keep the dust and hair off them, or as much as possible, as I have a problem - first pic. LOL They are Ragdolls, my wife's cats that she bred for about fifteen years - and as you can see, real "fur" balls and they shed, and if you know anything about cats, they go everywhere. Sorry pics are side on, I loaded the wrong file

Display/Storage - How do you do it

Okay, my question is. You guys have been modelling for years, and as you know I have just re-entered the car modelling scene after many years of absence. So, what /how do you store your models. Some of you must have hundreds of builds. I'm about to glue the last bits to my current build the '40 Ford, and checking my collection/stash, at the moment I have seven kits and three more coming. I'm looking at a glass display cabinet which should hold about twelve, and at my age aaand the time it takes me to build a kit, that might just see me out. LOL With you guys that have so many, do you put them back in their boxes for storage and protection? Then rotate which ones you want out on display. How do you all do it? Don -
Don't hold your breath mate, πthat will be a loooong way off.

Thanks Steve. My problem at times, is "should I do this" make this alteration. On the '40 I found the seats didn't fit right, so I had to modify them to fit. When you haven't been doing this for a long time, you don't have the confidence to start hacking away. I tend to think I'm changing something designed by a manufacturer and should leave it alone, but if it won't go together as it should, then I have to stop and think about it and do what I think is right - and hope. When you correct something and it turns out okay, it gives you a bit of confidence for future builds, and the realization that even the manufacturers can get it wrong. Don

It does, thanks for the info. Boy, that question of mine sure brought out a lot of comment, and I thank you all for contributing. Interesting stuff, you buy a kit not realizing what you are buying. I for one never realized the issues that might exist regarding old molds etc, and the issues with parts not fitting correctly for us guys building them. It's good to know, as it can be that when building a kit, and something not fitting right, it can be the parts in the kit, and not you having a problem with the fit. Thanks guys. Don

Thanks Alan, appreciate the advice and information. Don

I'm very lucky that way mate. Typical Queensland winter, low twenties right now, has been cold though 0-1 at night and 15 in the day, that's cold for us, as you would know, winter usually around 22/23, beautiful. I have to spray outside anyway, the wife cracks up about the smell, even outside, I have to wear my mask, so I know how she feels. Keep in touch. Don

Thanks Peter. I never thought about car kits this way. Just don't want to buy a lemon. Don

Having just returned to the model car building scene, I have never purchased a MPC kit, so how do they rate compared to Revell and AMT? Good or bad guys? Don

What Did You Accomplish Today? (Model Car Work)
Donny replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Funny you should say that, I nearly took the top off my index finger LH, last week. The older you get the more stupid you get, not referring to you mate, just me. That was last weeks accomplishment π Don -

What Did You Accomplish Today? (Model Car Work)
Donny replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks. I haven't tried the "pin", I basically clean up the parts test fit them, paint and glue them in place. As yet I have never fully assembled a model and then pulled it apart again for paint. being inexperienced, I true to not remove the parts from the tree until I am ready to cleanup and then test fit them. I sort of sectionize so I don't get all the parts mixed up, particularly the very small parts. -
Thats one big rig. Thats gonna take some putting together.π Don

Mate, I new to this as you would have gathered by my posts, (many questions), I'm thinking maybe I'm approaching this all wrong. I trial fit, then if all okay, paint and glue in. The reason I ask, is I see with this model you have it assembled unpainted, how do you do that without glueing, as you have to pull it apart to paint. What am I missing? -
