  1. Thanks Stuart, yep, the guys here have given me heaps of advice, can't thank them enough.
  2. Thank you Ulf.
  3. Thanks John, couple of things I still have to do - the hood hinges are one, that's tomorrow and I think that's it. thanks for the encouragement.
  4. Well it's done. Here it is, warts and all. It's the best I could manage after about 60 years of no model car building. Yes, I know there are a LOT of mistakes, but I'm trying to get it all together again. Hopefully the next one will be better, I'm learning as I go, but know there are a lot of mistakes ahead. I have plenty of kits to build and use to improve on.
  5. Don't think I would want to put the body on and cover up all that magic detail - beautiful work. I'll have to use your work of art as an example when I build mine. Don
  6. Thanks guys, for all the suggestions, really appreciate the help. In coming builds, I think I'll be trying them all out. Don
  7. Thanks John. The door handles on the '40 are so small it would be impossible to pin them - well for me, I'm not that talented, and at my age the hands are a bit shaky, not too bad, but enough to be a pain. Don
  8. Been there, done that three times on the floor, torch, hands and knees - ah, got 'em, lucky. The '40 exterior door handles are so tiny and the tweezers don't hold them, might try the bamboo sticks today, thanks Rich. Don
  9. I'm just at the ends of my first build in fifty odd years, and have found I have lost/forgotten a lot of the skills I learned back then. Putting this model together, I ran into a mountain of trouble with glueing small parts, well not so much the glueing, but the holding and putting them in place and glueing. So can I get some advice on the procedure you use, and the right way to apply it. My methods don't work very well, I finish up with bits glued to my fingers and tweezers, and places I don't want them. Advice from you experienced guys, would be most welcome. Thanks in advance. Don
  10. Got a couple of nice ones today. I am a bit of a Porsche lover, after having driven one a couple of times. The F100 speaks for itself - great, love it. Porsche color list is IMO quite......TS 7 cans, X 8 bottles XF 7, bottles, a few colors. I added it up, over AU$100, the kit AU$60, quite an investment.🙄 Don
  11. The postman and the courier called yesterday, making me a very happy chappy. 😁Got these. The magnifier I have wanted for a while, came up on special - grabbed it, much needed. The stash is building. Don
  12. Going back to around 1960/65 when I was first building models, AMT pretty much had the market I think and IMO were the best, Revell didn't have a particularly big range, well not at my hobby shop - Hearns Hobbies. (I purchased a kit from them recently, renewing the relationship, nice bit of nostalgia there). So I didn't have much to compare with AMT was it, the kit of choice. Don
  13. Nice cabinet and nice collection mate. Don
  14. I watched that vid today Bob, really interesting for me. That the first one I've been able to watch from box to completion. That guy is excellent with his process. I learned quite a few things I didn't know, so again thank you for putting me onto that. Don
  15. Yeah, but couldn't afford any of them, they eat like horses, hang the nose bag on and away they goooooo. 😂 Don
  16. Think I have found what I need. 174cm high, 78.5cm wide, 32 cm deep has plexiglass hinged doors, 4 shelves pretty reasonable at AU$189. Good width and shelf depth should hold quite a few models. Now just have to find that credit card. Don
  17. Thanks Bob. I have this kit, not quite ready to build it, but will save this for later. You been reading minds again? 😁 Don
  18. Thanks Bill, good tip. I sort of look things over, but didn't consider warpage. Don
  19. G'day Bob. Thank you, sometimes it's one step forward two steps back, as they say, and I'm learning that slow is the way to go. Glueing can be unforgivable. Don
  20. Ragdolls and model car building are not a good mix Ulf, good luck. Don
  21. Thanks John, I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the encouragement. Don
  22. Thanks Les. There has been a bit of a distraction with the MIL thing that hasn't helped. I did clean the paint away from the joins, as they need to be very clean, there is not a lot of area for the guards to fix to.
  23. Okay, I think I worked out where I went wrong, well one of the places. I painted the body and then painted the rear guards. Two problems there - the paint didn't match and I had trouble fitting the guards. As one of you guys said a post, the instructions are NOT always right. So instead of fitting the rear guards at step 8, I should have fitted them earlier before paint. At the start I said I wanted to paint the body and let it dry, whilst i went on and got the rest of it together, well some of it. Problem was, I didn't fully understand the process, and what I had to change to make that work - out of practice. The front is okay, the rear not so good as you saw. So tonight I hit the w&d and the filler. The LH rear guard has a gap at the join, I'll fill that and sand, prep the other "mistakes", and hopefully tomorrow add some paint. I learned a lot from my stupidity, and hopefully not make the same mistakes again next time. I have some nice kits to build, and don't want to stuff them up too. All suggestions and comments welcome, feel free to add. Next up, I have a AMT Chrysler Imperial Hardtop to build, which is low on the construction side, not having an engine or heaps of suspension stuff, so I'm thinking this will be a good project for me to concentrate on basically assembly and paint. I hope. In hindsight, this might have been a better kit to restart with. Thanks for reading this rant. 🙄 Don
  24. Thanks mate. Not looking good for mum. But full diagnosis not in yet. Early report is she has a cancerous mass, but how bad we don't know. Don
