Who doesn't love a mock-up? Let's see yours!

Been looking for the Liquid Blue for my Ford GT (Tamyia) but the Tamyia Liquid Blue is way too dark nothing like they show on the box. Where did you get the paint ? Don -

Questions? I'm glad I bought the large economy size box. I've asked a million and still have three quarters of the box left. hey, love the family portrait, and no I'm not being a smartie, we have six dogs, all family Don -

Thanks Elliot, lots of good advice mate. So, early on in the build the major parts are sort of assembled, the small parts, intricate stuff, suspension etc come later in the mock - up. I need to build some stuff I can post here, for practice and experience, mate thanks heaps for your advice, and the pics are great, gives me some idea of what you are saying. I'm at the kit box stage as you would have already worked out πand to a certain extent having some hassles there. I'm finding out not everything fits as it should, all good experience. Thanks again Don -
I tried to fix the mess I made with the windscreen install, not fixed, but better. I was able to put a tint band across the top with clear blue, it would have been much better without the previous damage, and not having used clear blue before, I was unsure how much to lay on there, so what you see is my guess work. Thanks mate, sorry to be a pain, lots to learn. So I guess this mock-up thing is just to get a general idea of how it's going to look when done. -

Thanks Mike, so no glue. There are so many different opinions on how to do it, some of them are very basic without suspensions, so I can't work out how they keep the wheels on as shown, or do they fix them inside the body wheel wells? -

Okay, I'm new to all this - mock-ups. How far do you go with the "mock-up". Is it basically chassis - wheels - body - engine, (no real detail) to show where you are at, with your model build. This is where my confusion comes in. There is a lot of detail to be painted so I can't relate to assembling 90% of the car then pulling it apart to paint/detail then reassemble for the completion. I test fit the parts when I build, before paint and glue, where I can, but don't assemble like you guys do. Is the "mock-up" necessary or is this sort of a "fun" part of the build. I just don't understand the glueing the car together and then having to separate it again and risking damage to be repaired before the final assembly. If I can achieve something toward the finished build, I'll do it, and whilst I'm on the subject, do you just "tack" the parts with white glue and then chuck it in a sink full of water later to "melt" the glue and get it apart? Sorry for my ignorance/ lack of experience, you don't ask, you don't learn. Don -

What Did You Accomplish Today? (Model Car Work)
Donny replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah I dropped a scalpel on my newly painted Chrysler bonnet recently, aaaahhhhh. As you said, we've all been there Don -
Thanks Stu, not up to our old mates level, but working on it. Need more time and experience. I need to find a source of cheap bodies to practice on that I can paint and repaint for experience. Don
-
Hey Stu, been a slight delay, I've had a medical issue and the doc sent me for tests - all good nothing new, but I haven't bee able to follow up with Bill but will in the next hour. He is posting me an axle, so as soon as I finish the Merc, I'm going to grab one out of my other kits, so I can get on with it, then I'll replace it with Bills donor axle. The Merc has turned out to be a bit of a handful with the instructions, they are all over the place, but I'm getting there and hope to have it finished over the weekend, then with the Tudor aka "Orange wonder". Thanks for checking in. Don

Thanks mate, just hope I can do the rest of it as good Don

I'm with Bill. Except for a few multi multi billionaires who can afford this poorly designed beast, (I don't think it's pretty), - who cares. When I read the article, one word came to mind, but I can't repeat it here. Involves a bull. There are so few people in the world that can afford this vehicle, I don't see the point in wasting time and money on something that only impresses the few. Design and manufacturer something less ostentatious and save the millions of starving in the world. I just see it as a trophy for Bugatti and their designers - WOW look what we can do! Just the way I see it. Don

The only color is black, as far as I'm concerned. I keep picturing James Dean leaning on his black Merc in the movie "Rebel Without a Cause". So it has to be black. Don
-
Have to agree Bill, they are IMO not an attractive looking car. We have a Ford Kuga that does the job for us. Exotic cars, I'll stick to models. Don
-
And the good news is, I went to work on it last night, and with Tamiya's polishing compounds got the scratches out of the roof, and its looking mighty fine Now the rest of it........................ Don
-
Got some paint on the Merc today, Luke's favorite color. Got some nasty scratches on the turret which I thought I fixed - I didn't, so tomorrow I'll have to rub it back and more primer. Then wait until the topcoat arrives from the hobby shop. Then I'll have a go at better photo's than I've just posted. Don
-
Yep, and different tyres for summer and winter, Bugatti ask for the old ones to be returned. You don't get any favors here.
-
Yeah, nice to have that sort of money. Whilst we are chatting, why can't I post a file with a .txt file extension? Don
-
For those that haven't seen it, here's the link. Sorry can't post it, system doesn't like a .txt extension But if you can find it, definitely worth the read for us revheads. oil change takes 27 hours, yep 27 bloody hours! 16 drain plugs, and some body panels need to be removed, special tools only Bugatti have, and wait for it US $25000, I think that includes oil though ππ Don PS printed in the Daily Mail
