I have another issue. I have a small bag that came with the wheels/tyres, 4 small black what I assume to be retainers for the wheels, but I can't work out how they are supposed to keep the wheels on. Do I glue them to the axles and then to the wheels. I don't want to glue things that don't need to be glued, but that's the only way I can see how to keep the wheels on. Help please. Don

Thanks Gary. Looks like I build with the bumps, the way kit came. As you have proof here that it could be either, and your Tamyia kit is the same as mine, so obviously that's how it's supposed to be. Thanks for clearing that up.

Not sure if you saw my reply post, but after checking a heap of "93 RX7, I could not find one that had a roof like that, not even close. If you can find one please post a pic so I have something to work from. Thanks Don

Well after checking about 150/180 pics of the '93 Mazda RX7 R1 models FC, FD on, I haven't been able to categorically say I've found any with serious roof defect that you guys are talking about. I have posted one yellow one that "maybe" have a dent in the roof, parked in the trees without any reflection I can as I said "maybe" see something, so I might just have to take the opinion of the majority and proceed with the build as is. Basically it's another "trainer" for me, so if it's not perfect, then so be it, like it to be as best as I can get it, but I have bigger and better things coming, so unless I get more advice to the contrary, it's onward we go. It will be later today before I get to it, so feel free to add anything you feel relative, and thanks to all for your contributions. DonI thought I saw a "slight" dent in the centre in this pic, and in the trees there is no reflections I don't think Same here, but could be a slight reflection, hard to tell. But as yet I fail to see anything like on my model. I read the history of the development which is quite interesting, but nothing mentions anything about the roof. I jut can't imagine why a manufacturer would develop a car with that, failing something relating to performance. Anyway, as I said previously,......moving on. Don

Good to know mate, thanks, I'll go look at some real ones. Don

Thats pretty unusual for a manufacturer to put out a car with that "defect", but then again having spent my life in the motor industry, the last part as Customer Service(complaints) manager in a franchise dealership, I saw a lot, and thought I'd pretty much seen it all, obviously not, and nothing to do with Mazda, only Holden, Nissan, Subaru, & Hyundai, to name a few. Thanks for the replies guys, sorry for the slow responses, our internet went down yesterday afternoon about three, and when I checked didn't come back up until about 3 AM when I checked again. Bit pissed at that, missed the footy semi final. Good thing is, I can get the replay on Kayo, sometime today, if I don't have to fix that roof. Don

Thanks Stu, I'll check out the 'net as you suggest, would be great if I didn't have to do a heap to fix it. Worst part is the time not so much the fixing.

Hey guys I have run into a problem with this build. I have just started the RX7 whilst paint dries on the Chrysler. The RX7 has, for me, a serios problem on the roof that I can't work out how to fix. Thought Tamiya was better than this. Check out the pic of the roof, the huge ripples/waves. I don't have enough experience to know how to fix this or if it is fixable, so if you smart guys with all the clues, can help me out here, I would really appreciate it. Thanks. Don

Rolls-Royce No Chemicals, No Paint, No Harmful Glues
Donny replied to Anglia105E's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Sorry to hear about your really bad news David, I have a lung condition myself, COPD, so I have a good idea what you are going through. I'm a stubborn old bugger, so my attitude is it is what it is and I'll just keep on modelling until I drop. I've just started again after 60 years, so no stopping me now. Love my oxygen cylinder. Good luck mate. Don -
Lotta work there, nice. Don

And Stu, that 442 is stunning Agree, looks magic, I have to try to reach that level.

Thanks Bill, I really appreciate your help. I'm finding the paint side of modelling a super challenge, so your advice is really helpful. I've got about fifteen kits to go on with, so...............might be time to decide what's next, whilst the Imperial "cooks". I got an email from Tamiya this morning, Tamiya just released their Toyota GR Supra Custom 24371, think I might have to add that to my collection for a later build, but before the Porsche Carrera GT and the NSX. I need more experience before I get into those two. I watched one of the guys building the NSX, beautiful job - think it's in the WIP forum. Question, is there a way to make the seats look a bit more sort of vinyl or velour, than just painterly? So, you, Stu and me, are all camped around the same pond. 😀Maybe we could get a couple of boats and meet up in the Pacific. 🙄😂. God I say some dumbass things. I'm waiting on the darker colour for the seats, should be here late today. If you can give me a couple of suggestions about the seats, I might do that whilst waiting for the body to cure and decide on my next build. Thanks guys, nice chatting with you Don

Morning Stu, I have to put the clear on outside, all paint actually, the fumes are too strong for in the house even with the paint booth, (also I have bad lungs so fumes are a BIG no no, even painting outside I wear my mask. I only got my dehydrator last week, so still working that out, but reading the advice here and on the 'net, I've started running it at about 30 C, which I think calculates to about 95F, which I think is pretty safe, the guys in the US I think run there's at over 100F I think. Last thing I want is warping. I not sure at what temp to run it to get reasonable curing times. What I read it seems to vary, I'll have to do some research, no point running it for ten hours if I can get away with two or five. I think I read somewhere that acrylics cure in two to three hours, lacquers take about ten. Guess I'll do so reading. Don

How long in the "oven" mate. Is eight to ten hours 30deg C too long?
-
Thanks Stu, thats a nice-looking finish on your Olds, beautiful. I live in Brisbane Oz and we have just hit spring, nice days in the mid twenties now, good spraying weather.
-
Thanks Bill, might have bitten off more than I can chew, as they say. Yes I have a dehydrator, so I guess it's 8/10 hours in that to start. Sorry have to show my inexperience here - what is in a polishing kit? I have a mix of wet & dry up to 10,000 grit and some Mothers polish to finish. Think I should have started off with a solid color, too late now, guess I had better get sanding. Thanks for your help and advice. Don

They look great. If I can get mine to look like that, I'll be happy Don

Not sure what happened there, I'll repost and see if it comes up

I spent most of the morning prepping the body, then after lunch I primed and then hit it with two light coats and one medium heavy coat. Tamiya TS42 light gunmetal, the red in the middle is what I propose to paint the trim, but I found TS thirty three which is a fair bit darker and I like that better, and I'll hit it with flat or semi gloss clear to kill the shine. I have a couple of questions - what do you guys think of the color, and do I need to give it a wet coat to get a good shine/gloss, I'm always scared of runs - I'm learning, but not there yet. Your comments and advice would be appreciated. Thanks Don

This arrived today, to add to the ever growing stash. This hobby is too Additive, I've only been back a couple of months and I've got this lot, 15 I think and a couple more on the way. Included aa pic of my other collection, I have a few bigger ones, and about 120 Matchbox cars, so I'm not knew to collecting, just took a break from building - 60 years 😂 Matchbox number about 150 . I'm a sucker for anything "model"
