  1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=310120227780 I was watching this Modelhaus Barracuda notchback before Dave Zinn kindly offered up the one by the now defunct AFX n Scale. Whoever the winning bidder was paid $92.56 for the same one that he could have bought brand new directly from Modelhaus for $79.00!!! P.T. Barnum was absolutely correct when he said there's a sucker born every minute! Terry Sumner
  2. It's a clear coat from HoK that is used for mixing Kandy Concentrates in to spray them and as a clear coat between color coats. But not intended as a top coat clear. Mike "True Fire" Lavallee makes extensive use of it in his patented True Fire flame paint jobs. Terry
  3. For anyone else who may read this topic, I have just purchased a body from Dave. So thanks so much for the help! Terry
  4. Yes you're right. I know that if it had been me that bought the masters and molds, I wouldn't want to take on the past problems either. Wasn't the new owner's fault. I hope he does get it rolling though because there were indeed a lot of items they had that were very good! Terry PS..did you get my return PM?
  5. From what I was told by another modeler who knows them...Wendell and Monica split up, Monica was trying to actually do the pouring, etc and was trying to make good on some of the old orders. But she sold the business to another fellow (don't know his name) and supposedly the new guy is reviving the goods and when he gets set up, will have a new website. If you go to the AFX website yoou'll see this message in big bold letters... "A/FX N Scale Resin has been sold to another proprietor. When he gets everything set up where he can work I'm sure he will set up another web site. He will also take care of any old order's." It's been a while now though so I have no idea when this will happen...IF it ever does... Terry
  6. Yeah...that is a GFCI outlet. I'd be curious if the elecrtician had some kind of explanation or reason why that thing didn't trip? It should have I think. You guys are lucky. If you didn't have those smoke detectors, that would have eventually caught fire and you wouldn't have known about it until it was too late and the fire was really rolling! Someone was watching over you folks eh? Terry
  7. Either one will work for me as I have an MPC fastback kit to use for the parts. I know about AFX's bad past, but AFX was recently sold and it says on their website that they're not ready yet. Still.... Terry
  8. Thanks for the quick replies guys. I went to the Modelhaus site. No photo there but I found one currently on eBay. Man that looks really nice. Juha did the master it says so I know it's gonna be good. I'm going to watch the one on eBay for now...maybe I can get that one for a bit less than the $79 Modelhaus price. The AFX one looks pretty good to. Will look that one up. The owner of the car even gave me a pint of the paint he painted his real car with. Who knows...maybe I can submit it for a future Is It Real? Terry
  9. Got a friend who wants me to build a replica of his car, this (I think) 68 or 69 Barracuda notchback. Does any resin caster out there make this body? Thanks in advance, Terry Sumner Hosted on Fotki
  10. 20+ years? You have a talent for understatement. That body comes from as far back as 1962! I first built the 32 Vicky back in 1963 when I was but a wee one! So more like 47 plus years... Terry
  11. I know how you feel too. I was laid off from my job as manager of a small 5 man auto repair shop back in September. I'm making it okay though because I have my retirement pay. But it's only enough to pay the bills...nothing there for extras. But even moreso is the feeling of uselessness for not having a job for the first time since I was 12 years old! (summers of course till I graduated high school)
  12. April 18th at the Wayne P.A.L. building in Wayne, New Jersey. Here's a link to the NNL East website. If you can make it you should go. I've only been able to attend it once and I had a great time at it that year. http://www.nnleast.com/ Terry
  13. Nice work Ron...looks just like I remember then in high school! Terry Sumner
  14. Yeah! Wouldn't it be cool to have a model built as each one of the Lil Coffin's reincarnations from start to finish? Man what a project THAT would be! Woo-hoo...a lot of work indeed! Terry Sumner
  15. I use Future to stick 'em in there. Dries perfectly clear! Just put a drop or two of Future (floor polish) in the hole and place the clear headlight lens onto it. Here's a Willys that I used the Future to attach the headlight lenses into the cans. Hosted on Fotki
  16. Here's my DD being used a couple of days ago to generate a little spending cash. 2003 F-250 with the 5.4 gas engine. I painted the front grill surround to match the rest of the truck and added the visor, which I also painted to match. My son got me the custom grill for Christmas last year and I added the wheels over this past summer. 66k on it now... Hosted on Fotki
  17. I keel you! Best ventriloquist ever! He was here in person at the Mohegan Sun Casino a few months ago and I didn't know about it! I would've loved to see him live! Terry
  18. No problem Sure looks great now doesn't it! Personally, I'm very glad the Lil Coffin has been restored. It's one of those iconic show cars from my youth that I remember so fondly....and did such a lousy job of building the model! Terry
  19. Dave, Where did you get that idea? I think more like any changes are unrecognizeable. The Lil Coffin has been restored yes, but it's pretty darn close to original. It was on display recently at the 2009 Daryl Starbird Show and someone from the KC Slammers took a bunch of great photos of it and put them in a Fotki album here... http://public.fotki.com/kcslammers/darryl-...darryl-starbir/ Here is picture of how it looked in 1962... Hosted on Fotki And here is how it looks now....just one of KC Slammer's photos... Hosted on Fotki
  20. This would be mine! I must've built this Vicky a dozen times in the middle 60's in every configuration you could think of. I still love this kit and have 3 in my stash. Brings back a lot of memories. Others that I really liked when I was a kid were the 58 Chevy and the Double Dragster kits. Terry Sumner Hosted on Fotki
  21. Judging by most modelers that I know, if you have a deadline of only March 1st, you're likely to have none completed, especially for a truck model. That's way too short of a deadline to finish. That said however, since your builders are not regular modelers and thus are not afflicted with what we call AMS, short for Advanced Modelers Syndrome, they may actually make it. What I mean is, many regular modelers with AMS tend to be a bit anal about their builds and take a long time to get one done. Your builders may not give a hoot for absolute accuracy and the finer points of model building, so they could very well get them done in time. I don't mean this as an insult...I just mean that without the "burden" of AMS, things could go along much quicker! And who knows? Maybe some of those builders will discover that they like building models! Terry Sumner
  22. Thanks much. But wait till I build the new one in 3 times the space. Man it'll feel good to have some room to spread out a little and get some display cases for my builts. And the reason this is happening is because my wife and I will finally be alone in our home. Yep! The last of the four offspring is finally moving out! That means a room is opening up and some things are going to get moved around, opening up more space! I'm finally going to learn what it's like to be an empty-nester! Oh and btw, that countertop with the sink in it isn't bent like that photo shows. It's nice and straight. Just distortion caused by the camera. Terry
  23. Here's mine... It's a corner in my basement 8' X 12' with a side room that's 5' X 7' for the spray room and sink area. My spray booth is literally the room. I put in a 10" hole in the wall and some 10" flexible duct that leads to a furnace fan blower and straight to the outside. The door has a filter in it. Works great! Anyway, here are a few photos. There are more on my Fotki site here... http://public.fotki.com/tsumner/my-modeling-shop/ Here's the main work area.. Hosted on Fotki The right side.. Hosted on Fotki The left side... Hosted on Fotki The paint room...you can see the dehydrator there too.. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki In a couple of months this whole thing is going to be remodeled into a new much larger shop....stay tuned. Terry Sumner
  24. It's ###### good but it's a model. Tires give it away. No flat spot on the bottom. They're too perfectly round at the tangent where the weight should be making the tires have at least a little flat spot. Now..watch me be wrong! LOL Terry
