how do you paint old school suede
roadhawg replied to lonewolf01's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Suede is nothing more than flat primer, right? I would say just paint it any color you want then shoot it with Dullcote. -
Just when I think 55s have gotten boring, something like this comes along. This is very nice indeed, especially the color choice. Big ol' thumbs up!

Digital camera choices????
roadhawg replied to roadhawg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks so much for all the great answers. It especially helps to see actual pics taken with these cameras. Guess I'll be doing some shopping this weekend, huh? Thanks again guys! -
I'm sure this subject has been covered a thousand times, BUT........... I have one of the first digital cameras that was ever made. It is a whopping 2.3 megapixel(state of the art 10 years ago), takes horrible, blurry close ups and I believe it is powered by steam. I want to replace it, but when I look at all the choices, my brain just goes into crisis mode. Without getting into technical specifications which I don't understand anyway, what is a good digital camera to get? It will be used for general family type pictures in addition to model close-ups. Oh, and since I'm a cheapskate, it must be under 200 bucks. I was looking at a Fujifilm S1000 fd ($189 at Wal Mart) but figured you guys might have some ideas.... Thanks!

Thanks, everyone! I really do appreciate all your kind words. This model also marked a return to building for me, after taking about a year and a half hiatus. Again, thank you all.

It's been a long time since I posted anything here, so, I figured I show something I just finished a couple of weeks ago. My favorite Chevrolet of all time is the 1961 Impala. Back in the mid 70s, when I was 18-19, I bought a real one with the intention of building my "dream machine". I had it all planned out....it was going to be black with a red tuck and roll interior, 454 4 speed, and a set of Corvette Ralley wheels. I parked it out beside my dad's garage and started saving my money for all the parts. Well, just like so many other stories, life and other things got in the way, and I ended up selling it without doing anything to it. Since I STILL can't afford to build a real one, I decided to build my dream car from Lindbergs 1961 Impala kit....just the way I had planned my real one. The tuck and roll interior was made by sanding the kit seats/door panels smooth and covering with Evergreen ribbed styrene. The engine is from a Revell 67 Chevelle, and the wheels are from a Revell Corvette kit. Paint is just plain ol' Model Master gloss black. After all these years, I FINALLY have my dream car, just the way I was gonna do the real one!

I really kinda like that Prelude. I must be gettin' senile or somethin'........ Absolutley! My thoughts exactly! Thats why I limit my projects to just a few. At the moment, I'm only working on: A Trumpeter 1963 Nova vert being converted to a 62...... A Revell 1964 Impala....being built pro-touring style..... A 1968 Plymouth GTX being converted from AMT 68 Road Runner..... A Polar Lights Herbie VW being built as a chopped fenderless Volksrod....... A Revell Austin Healey 100-6, factory stock....... And those are just the cars....in addition to the FOLLOWING projects: Fully detailed Monogram 1/32 Blue Thunder helicopter....... Revell 1/35 Bell 47 helicopter being built as N975B (75 Bravo) from the old "Whirlybirds" TV show....... Hasegawa 1/48 P-51D being built as an unlimited race plane....... Hobby Craft Bell 222 being built as a corporate executive helicopter....... Kitech 1/48 Airwolf........yes, Airwolf(See avatar)....... Heller 1/72 Aerospatiale Gazelle (what a P.O.S.!!!)being built as a civilian helicopter..... 1/72 Esci F-100D in U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds markings......... See? Just a few.

How Out-of-box is OOBS?
roadhawg replied to gowjobs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
.......Which is the reason for OOB classes in the first place. Not all of us can afford to spend a fortune on photoetch and aluminum to compete in a contest. An OOB category recognizes basic construction skills.....not the size of a checkbook. -
Auto World survey
roadhawg replied to The Modeling Hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, I'll be dipped! I haven't heard of them in about 30 years either! Yeah, they had it all! I still have a 1968 Auto World catalog! I'm glad to see 'em back. -
How about some inspiration?

Considering what you got, this might be an idea.................... http://www.moparts.org/moparts/picture/yards/6/70GTX.jpg -
How Out-of-box is OOBS?
roadhawg replied to gowjobs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've seen some awesome models that fit the OOB category. Since I'm an IPMS member, I go by IPMS rules, and heres what THEY say about OOB: "OUT-OF-THE-BOX entries will be governed by the following rules: A. KITS. Any commercially available kit may be used. Any parts provided in the kit may be used, regardless of their material (i.e., brass, resin, plastic, etc.). Generally, only parts that are included with the kit and found in the bag or box may be used. As provided above, exemptions may be allowed but must be approved by the respective Head Judge in advance of the judging. B. FINISH. All finishing techniques are allowed. Decals other than those included with the kit may be used. Insignia, markings, and instrument panels may be hand-painted instead of decaled. Weathering is permitted. C. CONSTRUCTION. The modeler may fill seams and gaps; sand off rivets; drill out gun ports, exhaust pipes, or other appropriate openings; thin to scale such parts as trailing edges, flaps, and doors; re-scribe panel lines lost in construction; and add rigging and antennas. D. IT IS NOT PERMITTED TO: vacuform, manufacture, or replace any part, or substitute parts from another kit; cut or separate canopies, surfaces, hatches, doors, etc. (no major surgery); combine a standard kit with a conversion kit; add anything other than specified on the instruction sheet except as shown in Section C above or specifically exempted by the respective Head Judge. E. INSTRUCTION SHEETS. Modelers must attach at least the first page of the kit instruction sheet to the entry form and have the rest of the instruction sheet accessible to the judges for review during judging (preferably, directly under the table from the model). Models entered without an attached kit instruction sheet will not be considered for an Out-of-the-Box award." -
For some strange reason, I really been diggin' Mopars lately, and I REALLY like this one! Color looks great! I'd like to see the undercarriage too.

Multiple pics in a post are easy once you get the hang of it. You say you use Photobucket....just go there and copy the "IMG" link....the one on the bottom: The post the link to each picture you want to post here in the "post" box, like this: Hope this helps. And that is a great looking sprint car!!! I'll try to post some pics of my Steve Kinser sprint car sometime!

Looking for resin Pontiac Rally II wheels
roadhawg replied to Chief Joe's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks, Chris, and you KNOW I couldn't have done it without ya! SA forums? Pffftttt........nahhh, I don't fit in there anymore! I haven't spent much time on ANY forum, really......had a lot of issues going on. I post a little on my local club forum....thats been about it. Just getting back into building after a slump. I'll try to do better from now on! -
Looking for resin Pontiac Rally II wheels
roadhawg replied to Chief Joe's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Its been awhile since I posted anything here, but this topic caught my eye. I'm glad it did, because I saw your link and I need some of your helicopter decals.....YGM! Anyway.....here is what those SELtd wheels look like on a 1/24 scale model, my 74 SD455 T/A........ Since there are no locator pins or anything, it can be a little bit tricky getting the beauty rings centered, but these are some nice wheels! I wish the kit makers would start making the beauty rings separate! -
I find it reassuring to know that todays generation get their political insight from bad music videos performed by social misfits. Why, they can't even spell corn right!

What Are 'donks'
roadhawg replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm guessing "Donk" is the sound your butt makes hitting the ground after you got out of one while forgetting you're 10 feet in the air? -
I don't know, guys....the preview for that movie looks pretty lame, unless you're 8 years old. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWrPXlqyS8s

Randy: "Yo, dawg... I dunno, it was a little bit pitchy in parts... I dunno... it really didn't work for me dog duck." Paula: "First, let me say you look wonderful, duck. You're the real thing. I just want to smash you into a little ball and hang you from a chain around my neck." Simon: "That was hoorrrrrible. Terrible song choice. You're just all over the place with those feathers. If I were you I'd be worred about the vote."

Paint Strippers - What to Use?
roadhawg replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
LOL! They probably have a support group for that somewhere! I've used brake fluid in the past on plastic and it worked ok, but I was told not to use it when stripping resin as it will turn the resin to mush.
