  1. Excellent idea! Remember to tell all your modelling pals, club members, and anyone else. The more, the merrier!
  2. Those are great display cases! Can I steal your photos for my reference please?
  3. In the movie 'I'll Be Home For Christmas' with Jonathan Taylor Thomas, there are a few model cars in the background shadows in his room at home. I know, I built them. 6 model cars, 15 hours of work for a 1/2 second background shot Why did I do it? They paid me Cash and plastic
  4. It says 'offers' so why not offer him $1 with a note saying that is all they are worth. They are not even in mint condition! Oh, I'm in Canada and the automatic shipping rate comes in at over $20. The most I ever paid for a vintage box was $5...that's my limit. I wonder how much his listing fee is
  5. Warning! Some resins will turn to mush when soaked in Super Clean or any of its clones! I use 91% or 99% rubbing alcohol that I get at the drugstore. Just make sure the container is completely sealed or the alcohol will evaporate. Another method I use is just washing the resin with Ivory liquid soap and warm water, then wet sanding out any imperfections with 3200 grit paper and rinsing.
  6. I have been using Treatment Model wax and Meguiar's Professional Products for over 30 years and I have sold both in the past as a factory rep. Treatment Model Wax is specially formulated for plastic model cars and will not harm cured paint. The important word is 'cured', not dry. If you use a car wax, it may have silicone in it as well as other chemicals that may be harmful to a plastic model. The real test is time. I have models that are decades old with no fading, peeling or deterioration of any kind. Treatment Model Wax can be found at most hobby stores and is easy to use. It also prevents glue fogging on clear parts. Meguiar's can be found at any good car parts store or auto body supply. You can check their website for product info and hints. Always use the Pro series in the tan numbered bottles as they are all silicone free and will not harm your model. WWW.MEGUIARS.COM When you wax, make sure the paint is fully cured! Very important! Otherwise you may remove the paint Use very little wax and rub very lightly with a clean soft cloth, like a cloth baby diaper, unused Simoniz has packages of soft polishing cloths available in some stores...get the smooth ones, not the textured. Remember, patience and soft rubbing.
  7. I have been there a few times and each visit is better than the last. The models on the tables are outstanding! The vendors room will boggle your wallet and your storage area! The camaraderie surpasses both the models and the vendors! Don't forget Friday evening at the Ramada! I drive a Chrysler Concorde with a massive trunk! 4 years ago my friend and I drove down. I bought a few kits and a lot of aftermarket parts that aren't available in Canada, along with some resin bodies. My friend bought a ton of everything, kits, built ups, resin, etc! We loaded up the trunk to head home Sunday and found that we could pack 87 model cars, kits and resin bodies in it! We had to put our luggage on the rear seat. If you forget your camera, the host club photographs every model on every table and has the photos online within a few days. Last year NNL East set a record on Fotki for most visits in a day!
  8. The only problem with the VW Zinger is a minor production problem, according to the manufacturer. It will be out soon. I built 4 of the original Zinger models for the Detroit Autorama and I will be getting a complete set for my own use.
  9. I'm heading down. I have to work out traveling arrangements with Peter McDonald and Pat Redmond and one other guy. There may be 4 of us in a car...we may need a trailer for the return trip
  10. has not set their status

  11. Sunday, September 26, 2010...Toronto, Ontario, Canada, eh! Group 25 Model Car Builders Club presents our 13th annual contest and vendors area...theme...Flashback to the 60s...plus our usual assortment of classes plus special Craftsmanship Awards...for those who have never been to this contest, it is a great small show with some excellent competitors and local vendors with judging by the host club. The Toronto area has several good hobby stores, so if you come in a day or two early, there is lots to keep you busy. If you have any questions, ask me...HOWARD.COHEN@SYMPATICO.CA
  12. Yes, the alleged idiot lady was caught. It happened in a fitness shop parking lot just north of Toronto. She is 72 years stupid...oh, oh...did I say that out loud? She returned 2 days later for her next fitness class or something...proof that you don't need brains to drive. As for the damaged car...Hyundai Canada felt so bad for the owner they gave him a new car. I think they got their money's worth in free advertising.
  13. Tim - I have to agree. As I was placing my models, Tom Woodruff came up to me to say hello, as he always does and has done every year for the past umteen years, unless I say hello to him first. We have known each other since my model car club brought the Chrysler dealership and we always have fun at the NNL, even if it's only for a few minutes. I always say hello to Karen, the much younger half of the Woodruff family, and to everyone else that I can find at the show. For a small group, they sure do a big job and they do it very well! I didn't see you this year, so I guess you were gallavanting around the grounds but I really like the Bonneville display. Yup, I brought 4 cars. That's part of the fun of the NNL, participating. Every year I meet someone new and have a great chat about whatever that is hobby/car related. I was talking to a good friend today, one that I happened to meet during an NNL weekend a few years ago, and he was saying the same thing...it's not the models, it's the people. GREAT WEEKEND!
  14. Rick - THANKS to you and your fellow organizers for putting on another great show! I really like the new venue, spacious, well lit, easy to find, places to sit and chat outside the room, 20 minutes closer to Canada and the sweatshirt I bought is excellent! I always enjoy seeing you and Tom and the rest of the crew, even if it's only a brief hello in passing. I really appreciate everything you do for the hobby. THANKS
  15. Hosted on Fotki This was at Meadowbrook Hall for the 50th Corvette anniversary in 2003. The car is a very bright pearl white and under direct sunlight was awesome. However, this was with a lesser camera. Check Google and see if there are any better photos from the show. At NNL East a few years ago, I picked up a set of machined aluminum wheels for the Astrovette. They are much better than the plastic ones and cost a $20, but worth every penny. I'm still waiting to find a body, although I heard there is a resin one available.
  16. The Tom Daniel's California 'Vette is 1/24th scale. I am going to use the recent Miami Vice Daytona as a donor kit as it is also 1/24th scale. You can borrow parts from almost any 1/24th Corvette for some of the chassis and engine parts.
  17. Up date! We now have 37 sold vendor tables, a new high as we usually have about 30! If this is any indication, the contest will be great! Come early, get your contest entries registered early and be part of the show!
  18. I drive from Toronto for the weekend, arriving Friday and returning Sunday, abour 4.5 hours each way, plus a border crossing. I have been going since the early 80's. I have never seen a bad show. The NNL is usually crowded but we will see what the new building is like. There are many great people to see and chat with, more so than the models. Shopping? I don't know...how big is your wallet and the trunk of your car? I didn't shop the past couple of years but I will this year. The aftermarket vendors will keep your eyes and mind boggling and who knows what kits will show up. Yeah, it's worth the drive.
  19. Can you please tell me the name of the hobby shop? (a rpivate email would be great) I have given out flyers to our club members and they were distributed to every hobby shop in the GTA, except one who won't take any. I have personally been to 7 shops in the GTA plus mailing to 50 plus outside the GTA. Thanks...
  20. Good thing to remember...if you are crossing the border, take your passport. Mine finally showed up last week after a small error was found in my original application. If you are crossing the border, make sure you bring a copy of the contest flyer with you to show where you are going. I always do when heading to the US and it makes the crossing easier. As of today, we have 24 vendors tables paid for...only 1 hobby store, the rest are private sellers.
  21. Here are a few photos that I took. I don't know what happened to our official photos, perhaps lost in space http://public.fotki.com/HowardCohen/mega-city-model-mot/ When you are done, I also have 2 earlier shows in albums, so scout around. http://public.fotki.com/HowardCohen/
  22. Hosted on Fotki
  23. I have both from shows over the years. The plaques hang nicely on the wall. The trophies look great standing on the shelf. However, having seen many awards presentations at car shows, the trophies are much more impressive!
  24. I am wondering if there is a list of coming events for 2010? Our club (based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) is thinking of moving our contest to the spring, perhaps the last Saturday of March or the first Saturday of April and I would like to co-ordinate our contest date with other events in the area to make sure we don't overlap. Any feedback, please let me know, Thanks.
  25. The small round piece looks like a very old rooftop emergency light.
