Anyone Ever Try To Dye Kit "glass????
novadose71 replied to Len Geisler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I ruined two sets of windows for the AMT Concept Camaro with hot water and RIT. The tint actually absorbed(?) into the glass and polished out nicely, but the warpage was a too much to overcome, thicker kit windows might not warp as easily. Then I had to explain to the wife that I had to purchase a third kit for another set of "glass". 40 bucks just to end up with clear windows in the end. I might try the tinted Future on my 56 Victoria glass, sounds like a good idea. Oh yeah, and Bob's right, warp is very hard(impossible) to remove from clear parts, I've tried, ask my wife. -
WOW!!! Bill, your chassis is awesome, the details are great. I can't wait to see the rest of this progress.

Tools You Can't Live Without
novadose71 replied to Kenny's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here are a few "tools" I have come up with through the years. I took the pic a while back in hopes of posting some tips. I'll use it here instead. Two sizes of alligator clips(75-100 total)most crimped onto pieces of sprue, some not, Almost every part gets clipped at some point during a build for painting/ they are stuck into pieces of foam wrapped in 3 inch masking tape to dry Pieces of sprue- parts that can't be alligator clipped are superglued to the end for painting then snapped off Model Master jars fit into most spray bomb caps, labeled 1,2,3- full of thinner for cleaning brushes- one for solids, metallics and one clean for final rinse-and no more spilled thinner all over my bench My wife used to work in a photo lab-the scrap pics make good pallettes for paint and filler- I still have a nice stack left Little squeeze bottle has a hypodermic tube(like the touch n flow). It works awesome for black wash on grilles etc. Squeeze first to displace about half the air inside, hold your squeeze, flip over, put tip of needle on the part and very gently squeeze some out . It will flow through the area and if you get too much on the part release your squeeze and it will suck it back up. This took a while for me to master, but now that I got it figured out I'll never use a drop of wash on a brush again. Not pictured but necessity none the less; an 8x10 piece of 3/16 Aluminum with self stick board file sandpaper of various grits for trueing flat surfaces, my paint stand for bodies, I can't spray inside without my spray booth, latex gloves, respirator, and lately I have been getting a lot of use from my dehydrator. See ya -
:lol:Nice repaint on the engine. Yours looks good, I like your engine detailing and the chrome reverse wheels would look good on her. I built one of these stock w/slicks a few years ago, supernice kit and went together well.

What's Everyone Profession,etc..job,
novadose71 replied to stanleymsn's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I used to do drywall and residential and commercial painting. Then I went to school to be an autobody tech. Worked in a collision shop, high end restoration shop, and now I work in the paint shop at Pierce Manufacturing where we make custom(not kustom) fire trucks. I also do a few commission builds and paint smaller things;motorcycles, gas pumps, mailboxes, what have you, in my one car garage, on the side. -

Where Do You Display Your Masterpiece
novadose71 replied to stanleymsn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I really like the tall square cases you guys have, I'll have to keep on the lookout for one of those. I have two hanging wall cases, one in the living room and one in the model room.My uncle built these for my grandpa and I received them when he passed away. I made the risers from 1x4 pine so I could display some 1/64 and smaller stuff in front of the models. My wife found the lower floor standing case at a garage sale, it had two shelves and I added the smaller shelves so I could cram as much in there as possible. The drawers also make a nice drop zone for new goodies that I'm too lazy to take into the basement model room. I got this one a few months ago cheap from a friend. It's in my model room and has a built in fluorescent light that I need to rewire. I haven't had a chance to fill it up yet either. This is the home for my Big T when I finish it. That's where I display, thanks for stopping by. -
40 below zero(wind chill)outside this morning. My wife stayed home from work and watched the kids while I went in the basement and painted my 73. The clear is very soft yet in the pics. It's nail polish with Dupli-color clear. I wasn't sure about the color on my test spray, it's a quite a bit flashier than I originally planned, but I'm starting to like it. Next is wet sand, polish and then spray the vinyl top texture and colors. See ya

I wet sanded the bodies Friday night and sprayed the 71 body last night, 3 coats of 71 AMC electric blue lacquer and 3 coats clear. I'm using nail polish on the 73 and can't fire up my airbrush compressor in the middle of the night, so I didn't spray it last night(I did spray the white on my 56 Ford build instead). It will sit for a few days and then I'll wetsand and polish it before spraying the vinyl top(s). Meanwhile I hope to spray the 73 some morning this week. Until then, thanks for stopping.

Very cool! I like the L-88 hood on there. Just an idea, but why not chop up a 70 Camaro rear bumper to keep the Camaro theme going.
-
Got my priming done since last post, both bodies turned out pretty good, just a couple minor issues to take care of. I still haven't sent my bumpers to be plated, and that will probably hold up this project in the end, but what are ya gonna do? With any luck I will be posting some in paint pics after this weekend. That's all for now.

The only 1/10 scale tractor I know is the Kenworth from Tamiya in their RC model range. It is an incredible model that really would complement your father's trailers.

Finished the 73 Vinyl topand side window trim last night, and got the 71 done also, start to finish, it was a good night. Just some sanding on both tonight, wash them up, and prime the bodies. Then I can focus on prepping the chrome parts, and make my sidepipes. Until then, see ya'.

I got most of the vinyl top laid out this morning. Just need to add the trim between the windshield and the drip rail, and some light sanding. I redid the driprails and am going to redo the side window sill trim also, then the 71 get's it......................... Catch ya later

Yeah, there ya' go

I look at it and see black(or cream) with gold inserts. For me it depends on what style you are building this also.

Well I got my taillight panel done last night, just a little final fitment to do on the rear bumper, then I can send all my chrome parts off to the platers. I glued strips of Evergreen to the rear of the quarter panel extensions. Then I narrowed the taillight panel so I could fit the two scraps of styrene on(the big squares sticking out back). Trimmed flush with the 1/4 extensions A little filler to blend them in and it's done. It's not 100% correct, but it looks a lot better. Tonight I start to add the vinyl tops. Thanks for stoppin'

59 Buick Roadster Custom By Ted "chopper" Lear

Absolutely beautiful. Chopper sure can build. -
WOW!!!!! you are a Madman! That looks great so far, can't wait to see it done. I work in one of Pierce's paint shops. I help with paint quality control on pumps, aerial parts and HDR bodies. I also do all the paint touchups and blends on every ladder caused from assembly damage, etc, climbing all over(and under them) on a daily basis. I can tell you, the detail you are putting on this is incredible, very realistic. I really like your turntable. Keep up the good work, and please, please, please, post more pics as you progress and finish. BTW I sent your Fotki link to a couple guys at work, hope you don't mind. Thanks for posting this, later.

I just started building one of these to pull a Chris Craft boat kit. My computer desktop came from google images and it looks almost exactly like your kit, down to the scallops, but it has chrome reverse rims and the paint is a dark cherry red. I saved it for reference for my build. Oh yeah, nice job on your build.
-
Here was my initial problem with this kit, notice the big gap between the 72 taillight and the trunklid, not only is it the wrong taillight for this 73 body(smooth roof) but there isn't a filler piece included and no mention of it in the kit instructions. Consequently this filler panel is molded into the blue 71 body so I'll save this taillight for a future 72 conversion project. The solution, Modelhaus to the rescue. Ordered a 73 taillight panel, lense, and spoiler(mine was misplaced). It's a cheap fix and corrects this kit. Also a pic of some of the inspiration for my car, I am building the street machine for myself Here is every thing setting on the body. The spoiler took a little filing for a good fit, now I need to fit the taillight panel and bumper, it's going to take a little work. BTW the rear bumper is cut from a JoHan 69 AMX taillight panel. Hopefully I can finish the rear of this in the next couple days so I can get making the vinyl tops this weekend. That's all folks.................thanks for stopping.

Cool! I was actually watching these on ebay a while back. I didn't want to spend $30 on a resin blower setup for my Big-T, so I figured I'd buy one if these, rob the blower, and I would still be able to build the Exterminator single engine. I didn't realize that there were so many induction setups though, that's good to know . I might have to start watching these again. Anyway, thanks for the engine shots, and keep 'em comin'.
