Sad Sad Sad News: Our Harry Passed Away
Gregg replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was going through my notes. I met Harry in person for the first time at the iHobby Expo in Chicago October 22, 2009. He popped up at the MCM booth, tall as can be, and said, "I'm Harry." Man oh man. What a great guy. He did so much for mag, covered my okole for so many years. You will be missed my friend!!! -
Is it just me, or has the site slowed down again?
Gregg replied to russosborne's topic in How To Use This Board
From my server tech people: So after looking into your load issue, I tested the website myself and found thing were loading at a normal pace and wasn't finding any issue with. I looked at your load logs with our mr.radar service and it appears you had an out of normal spike in server yesterday around between 6:45pm ET and 6:50pm ET. This is most likely due to a number of requests during that time, I will investigate further and let you know of any updates. Your load has returned to normal since then. -
Yes, there was a glitch. On the latest issue of Model Cars, the top of the label says: EXPIRATION ISSUE: and that's it. It was supposed to say: EXP ISSUE: , and then your expiration issue number But for some reason, the printer didn't get it right. So, no, the issue you got is NOT your last issue, this is not your EXPIRATION ISSUE. Sorry for the confusion, scare, and headaches.

Different companies. Same idiot behind the companies, but still, different legal companies. Can't rob Peter to pay Paul's printing tab. Different books. Same printer in Denver. #203 is printed, should be mailed out this week. Had good news yesterday, but that's for the idiot to gloat on... Wait, I'm the idiot.... -

Revell 1966-1977 Bronco
Gregg replied to Gregg's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I'll try and finish it up tonight. Haven't been able to touch it since I posted the pics. I was hoping to do a 24-hour build, but wasn't physically able to. So, I stopped the clocks, and when I start back on it, it may still be less than 24 hours. -
Revell 1966-1977 Bronco

As you can see, I was a bit too aggressive on the sanding before I primed it with Tamiya Grey. I should have primed it first, and then wet sanded it. The details are so fine, so crisp, just that small sanding on the driver's door removed the door key/lock. You have to watch all the ribs/tops of the body, even the back of the hood has the hood hinge part molded in. The rear of the body has a small lip for the hardtop to sit on. Everything is done right. There are mold/pin marks under the hood and hardtop. Also, the hardtop is really thin, so thin it could be broken easily while sanding/painting it. It was hard to remove the ghost line on the hardtop, where a soft/half cab roof would be (future release?). So, yes, ResinBronco.com will be history, or maybe just be hidden reason for this new Revell Bronco? Yes, I know, I'm nutz.... k den I will hopefully finish it tomorrow. -
Kelly's dad had the port, and we knew it was there, but he said it didn't bother him. He's now 85 (on Monday), and still cheering for the Dodgers.... :-)

email from Harry, marked URGENT
Gregg replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A couple of friends just sent me copies of emails that I supposedly sent to them, from the back up modelcarsmag at yahoo.com email address. If anyone receives an email from the MCM Yahoo account, it is fake, and some have had a link in the email. I have seen two so far. Say it what it is: A Scam. Someone wanting something for nothing. Another sign of the entitlementelitistswanteverythingfornothing crowd.... That's a tough one to read without the spaces!!!! mahalo! -

after some research, it looks to be part of that big Yahoo email hack/attack. Didn't know ATT email was with Yahoo. The timing is just ironic. Coincidence? Probably -
If you got this email from Harry, disregard, it's a fake. Subject line is all caps, URGENT Hello,I am very sorry I could not inform everyone about my trip to (Manila,Philippines) for a program because it was impromptu, the program was successful but my journey has turned sour I was mugged at gun point and all my valuables were stolen cash, credit cards and phone, where I went for sightseeing before leaving to the airport since my return flight is in few hours. Luckily I had my passport in my hotel room to get me home. It's was a bad experience I need your help financially to get back home, I need to settle some outstanding hotel bills and also take a cab to the airport, I have contacted my bank but the best they can do is to mail a new card which will take 3 days to get here, Please let me know if you can help me out? I promise to make the immediate refund when i get home. All hopes on you.Harry This is fake. The email return address is to a different account, not his.

Guys, as many, if not all of you know, Harry has been the guy who has made Model Cars look like it does since the January 2008 issue (Issue #129). Harry basically covered my okole for the past five or six years while I was literally on my back dealing with my issues. Now, it's time for not only me, but the rest of this big model car ohana to do what you can to help him out. As Cato said, there is a GoFundMe page that you can donate. The link is: Harry's GoFundMe page I'm doing what I can, and I hope everyone else will also. I will try and take more control over the forum, so he doesn't have to worry about all the normal things that come up with the day-to-day banter, topics, threads, replies, etc. Also, Darryl and I will be trying to take as much pressure off of what he does for the production of the magazine, and field all the questions that come up. If you have questions on anything with the forum, or magazine, contact me or Darryl. Let's gather around our friend, our Harry, and help him get through this. He helped me get through my situation, it's payback time.

Another new one in the Aoshima/Beemax line of '80s Rally Cars is the Nissan 240RS from the 1983 New Zealand Rally. Nice body, very nice rims, good details, but, it's curbside.

Model Cars Magazine Renewals

Jim, I do appreciate any offer of help However, Like I have stated 329 times, email me, let me know what you can do, and we can go from there. I just did a full search of emails, the only one I show from a "CrazyJim" is October 2014. I don't mean to sound like an ungrateful ass, but look at from this point of view. Yes, you want to help. What can you do? Can you set up an easy to use system, maybe using Excel with pivot tables that can pull up all subscriber info? Can you set up a FileMaker Pro template to use with the Excel data? Or something else? For me to explain how to do something would take longer to do than to do it myself. Plus, I don't fist the forum often, hardly at all. EMAIL ME. I save 93.487% of all emails. I have over 32,000 in the inbox still, and that's not counting folders. You want to help? I appreciate the offer. Email me. What can you do? Seriously, just saying you want to help, then only posting that on the forum, and then really just laying it on me for not responding? ??????? Sorry, but this gets me, big time. Marcos, Tom, unnamed and witness protection people, mahalo nui loa!!!! As for deadlines, cough up $50K to get the next three issues printed and we'll all be happy. Yes, things are getting on track. It's worse than starting from scratch. When you start from scratch, you get the initial subscriber monies that come in. I had to honor over 2,000 subscribers, and rely on renewals, and dealer sales. The percentages I was hoping for in submitting renewals and invoices paid are not even close to the projected numbers I ran. how did Golden Bell do it? Easy, they did it all in house I have to pay, up front, the printing and mailing costs. Am I complaining? Nope, stating facts. Am I making excuses? Nope, stating facts. Why not go to all digital? Nope, never going to happen. So, either you are in it for the long haul, have faith in what we all are doing, and will do what you can, when you can, or you're not. Sorry for the rant Probably my longest post. Just got back from the main post office, had to take care of the filing forms for sending out the mag, through USPS, not fun, and I will probably forget what I'm supposed to do. Which is why I don't like phone calls anymore I don't mind talking, I just won't remember what was said, what I'm supposed to do, or sometimes even who called. Okay, I pau -
Thanks for the updates. Still trying to get into their data system, to see what stores get how many copies. Too complicated for my last brain cell.
-
The Barnes & Noble order went from 500 copies under Golden Bell Press to now over 1850 copies. Huge jump! I can't get to the data yet to see what stores have it, still working on that Yes, asking your local hobby shop would help. let me know what shop it is, see if I have contact info also. Send me an email: gregg@modelcarsmag.com Thanks
