  3. I was e-mailed a obituary about three hours ago concerning Larry Alaxander's death : The Alexander brothers. Photo via Kustomrama Customs were not purely a West Coast phenomenon, as a pair of brothers from Detroit proved. Larry and Mike Alexander, the famed Alexander brothers, began customizing cars out of their father’s garage in the mid-1950s and went on to land enough business customizing cars to quit their day jobs and open a shop of their own. Over the course of the late 1950s and 1960s, they turned out some of the more iconic customs of the day, including the Victorian, Chili Catallo’s Silver Sapphire, the Adonis and the Venturian, but they gained nationwide fame through the Deora show truck they built for Chrysler. Larry Alexander, the older of the two, later went on to work at Ford as a model builder. After suffering a stroke earlier this week, he died yesterday at the age of 79. UPDATE: Denise reports that visitation will be tomorrow, August 27, and the funeral will be the following day. L.J. Griffin Funeral Home will be handling the services. Ed Shaver
  4. Woodie : Comprised of a Wood frame body that was primarily used to deliver passengers or in some cases cargo . Usually found to have exposed wood sides or exterior . Sedan Delivery : based loosely off a station wagon as the rear passenger area was converted to parcel delivery with the rear windows blocked off. Thye rear doors were also found to have a single stamping so as to ease loading/ unloading as opposed to a stationwagon two piece gate . Panel Delivery : based off of a Pick- Up truck body , there were strictly parcel delivery vehicles with utility in mind . Surburban carryalls : Based off the popular Panel delivery trucks , companies such as International harvester , General Motors coach and to a lesser extent Ford S A made these vehicles to accomodate the Latin families through the rough terrain in Brazil. 5. Gotta tell ya , thats a car that wasn't all that popular on the street , when it was avalible . Even rarier is the fact that you chose to do a stocker out of that kit too. I well remember the annual you have there . Fine job ! Ed Shaver
  6. I was informed this morning that Mister Larry Alaxander of the famous Alaxender Brothers has quietly passed on as of last week. While I never ever got to meet either of the brothers , I was a fan of their work . I followed their paths as I was in the manufacturing of Van accessories in the 1970's when they became part of American Sunroof . Ed Shaver
  7. Look closely at the drink holder kids ......... That is the drink holder my company was manufacturing a zillion of back in 1975. The first ones were made out of Birch Veneer plywood. When I couldn't get stores to eat the high cost of decent wood , we went to M D F and Plastic laminates . I still have the patterns too. Artforms Design was sold to an outfit in Arlington Texas in 1982 but they didn't buy all of the patterns . Nice job on the van , you need to get some serious vanners like my self together and we'll have a good ole truck in . Ed Shaver, once known as scrubba
  8. I agree Jon, I used to actually live there ! Not only the ladies but I would say most of the people in general . Tellin me that White bread will kill me , please ............ Ed Shaver

  12. Don , personally , I could care less as to construction material. The first models people had back in about 1946 were Balsa wood . Mr Gowland of Revell solved that with Plastic in Venice Beach California . meanwhile , I'm converting a testors 1941 Chevrolet to mate to a A M T 1937 Chevrolet so I can have a stocker for one of my service station models ...... To the Plastic snobs , uh go take up bird watching . Ed Shaver
  13. For what it's worth, the chassis from a A M T 41 Wyllis Americar coupe fits great under a A M T 1940 Ford . I should outta know as I built both a 1941 Wyllis truck and a Coupe for the Amoco Projek . Both were converted to stock configuration too. Ed Shaver

  17. Great job ! Seriously , Ive had two of them . I wil never buy another Chrysler product as long as I live though. Ive owned a Newport , a Diplomat and two vans , no three counting a 66 A -100. Ive always had the worst luck concerning the el cheapo electric systems in their products . They make outstanding transmissions though . Ed Shaver
