  1. OK, this one threw me. Never seen one and never knew they existed. Even had a roof rack. US 101 n/b at Healdsburg, CA. No photo from me, it was raining and I was focused on remaining between the lines. Tried to explain the theme to SWMBO but she seemed utterly uninterested. https://www.thedrive.com/news/2023-porsche-911-dakar-gets-classic-rothmans-colors-as-a-factory-option
  2. Maybe add a couple glued on Kew Pie dolls or some rust? ?
  3. I'm stoked that they appear to be re-releasing the 300 SLR "Uhlenhaut Coupé". I guess any car that crossed the auction floor at $143 million appears to be a proper subject for a model.
  4. I think this qualifies as a "rat rod". Petaluma, CA Not too far away, I saw a 1960 Bel Air, white over light blue with a period patina to it.
  5. Lesson: all you need to pass the car in front of you is to downshift, once or maybe twice. (What I learned from racing movies)
  6. I've only got a couple and they are rare only because of low production numbers. A couple of Fisher Porsche 917LH kits along with a Jaguar D-type (all now irreplaceable) and a Studio27 Dodge Viper GT and a Rennaissance Aston Martin DB9R. I haven't built them as I'm not confident enough with my abilities to do them justice. Yes, they're all curbsides but just the same.....
  7. Must have learned how to park from a BMW owner. (I kid, I kid.....but am I?)
  8. Are there any others left in the litter?
  9. Living in what can only be called a hobby shop desert, I'm WAY behind the curve. I just now got the Revell 1971 Boss 351 Mustang via an Amazon purchase I tacked onto some stuff my wife wanted. Next the '71 Mach 1 kit. Its not much but its honest work.
  10. I'm sure you must cover your ears when they fire it up.
  11. Unrelated (mostly) but what's a normal in-service life for a vehicle living off road in Alberta? I'm willing to bet its longer than a similar truck of 40 years ago but not as long as a pampered one in Southern California.
  12. I would commit a crime for a Mangusta model. I'd just like some kits that already are in some warehouse in Italy. Ferrari 275GTB Ferrari 250SWB (the Italeri one not the ESCI) Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione. Yes, I know it was released but how long ago? Lotus Cortina Let me add a vote for the Espada. And since Aoshima has an interest in supercars: a Saleen S7 (road and track).
  13. Likely you're talking about a seller from Virginia who also sells under his wife's name. He has shamelessly ripped off Fred Cady for years, among others. I hate stuff like that.
  14. I've had nothing but reusable grocery bags since they started charging 10 cents for the plastic ones (something like 8-10 years ago?). Governor Brylcreem did nothing that affected me with this pronouncement.
  15. Yeeaahh, right. In my previous life the first fatal I ever went to, didn't have to investigate, was a early-mid '60s VW Bug that center punched a traffic light. Until then I didn't know that the connection of the steering wheel to the steering gear was a steel rod. It had nowhere to go except straight back. And we aren't talking about a 200mph Bug.
  16. Saw one of these parked in the "hipster" area (Union St) of San Francisco on Saturday. Taking up a rare parking spot for a promotion-people had to line up just to SIT in it. May I present to you the Aptera solar powered car. No, it didn't move. Promotional photo Note their own photo shows no one looking at the car and its parked to take up 2 or 3 parking slots. Wonder who their target audience is. I've found breathless stories about this going back almost 15 years. Reminds me (aeronautical reference) of TIGHAR and the search for Amelia Earhart-"Give us just a few more bucks and we'll solve this for certain."
  17. 1961 or 62 Corvair pickup (I've no idea of the differences), blue with white accent paint. Looks to be in pretty good shape. Seen it in town but never seem to be able to get a picture.
  18. While doing a periodic dive into the lesser traveled areas of the internet, I came across Google's library of the Life Magazine photo collections. Here's a selection of early 1950's show rods from the LA area. Wish they were in color but I'll take what I'm given. https://images.google.com/hosted/life/00ccda5658507099.html

  20. Yeah, yeah a nice Chevy but the background-Bulk Barn!!! And a big one, too. Now THATS something they could/should export to the US without any hesitation.
  21. Those bulging headlamps....Edsel redux. It would have killed the line.
  22. In my previous life as a CHP officer I was called by a deputy sheriff to verify the identity of a car he'd never encountered before (my agency had a reputation of knowing the VIN locations on every vehicle back to the Hupmobile-aah, no.) I found he had stopped a 1968/69 Beaumont and was amazed that I was familiar with it. As I've said I'm married to a Canadian so it held no mystery to me.
  23. All this Detroit iron talk is so much pish-posh. Now to the REAL star of the movie: Seen at the 2016 Peggy Sue Car Show in Petaluma, CA that along with San Rafael were the two main filming locations. And right next to that testament to Italian motorized transportation there was this: There also was Milner Duece Coupe and a 58 Impala but I was never able to determine if they were the original cars or reproductions.
  24. That absolutely was Cotati. I was a police cadet/dispatcher for both the Cotati Police and Rohnert Park police from about 2 weeks after HS graduation until I went into the Air Force.
  25. Then undoubtedly you'll pick the most interesting subjects, and then make the kits so difficult to build that there will be vast numbers of kits sitting in drawers and partly glued if not thrown against walls.
