It wouldn't really benefit me, but I don't count . Tutorials are always appreciated around here, and one on doing 'bags and coilovers using rivets, o-rings, and pen springs would be a great idea.........maybe I need to fire up the camera and brush up on my digital penmanship and write one as well. I work as an aviation mechanic, and have access to all sorts of really cool stuff that makes interesting (and very realistic) model detailing fodder.

Do I spy some 'O' rings in the bag build? Looks good; I'll have to check my stash and company free-stock to see if I have any that are the right size for one of my builds. look forward to seeing some color on this.

Matt, I wish I did. I usually have to surf the 'Bay (EBay) to get something that I might want, or under the advice of those here I have checked out some of the Japanese kit importer stores and kit-direct shops (HWJapan, HobbyLink Japan, HappyRobotStore......places like that). Also, Pegasus Hobbies has some that can work, as well as sleeves and lower profile tires.

Very nicely done 'A' body Bruce.

'94 GMC Sonoma SLS
whale392 replied to Nick Winter's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Now see Nick, this truck really looks good. It appears that you took some time and really did this one up nice. -
Pro-street or stock, the building skills needed are the same. You are getting better, and that is a good thing. At 15, I was building (but don't ask me where any of them are now). As you get older, you will get better. I am not busting your balls, just giving some advice that you can use. Trust me; been there, did that, got the T-Shirt, and the models suffered a horrible ride accident!

Seems I start a lot of kits, but modelers ADD gets in the way. Hood will be Carbon Fiber with the scoop painted to match the body (Boyds Chezoom Teal Pearl) , , . Wheels are the Mesh units from the Revell Acura Integra tuner kit with the webs painted Black. Interior will be White and Teal with some Carbon accents. Engine is actually done, but I have to get some pics of it so I can post them. Hope you like it so far.

Very nice paint job! I'll build your chassis' if you paint my bodies?

Ok, without all the B.S drama that seems to go on; what others here have tried to help point out to you (paint, body, and taking your time) are very valid points. While I may not comment in any of your posts, I do look at them. You are getting better, but you could definately improve. 7 days to finish a model........I have that just into basic assembly of my engines (and I am NOT good). Now, before you jump on me for busting your balls, I would like to point out some things to you. Your chrome trim is rough, even for brush. Might I suggest some good brushes for starters....good tools make all the difference in a case like this. Also, time spent on prep work will pay off in the finished product. Take a little extra time to get everything right before you go rush-finishing something. You do pick interesting subjects to model, but sometimes your execution of the model looks haggard and rushed. Research will help a lot too; better knowledge of your subject will lead to a more 'right' looking end product. I was stationed in a Navy barracks for quite some time, and due to 'Health and Comfort' inspections could not have a lot of the basic equipment and detail stuff others had (and the base hobby shop quite often didn't carry them). What does this have to do with your builds you ask? Simple........I learned to better my skills with just what I had and made no excuses for the way my models turned out. I was 23-24 at the time (I don't know how old you are and am too lazy to look it up for just one post) and felt my work sucked..........others disagreed. Now, to back up my (and others) points; this is my Plymouth Duster (I don't care if you like Mopar or not, this is to prove a point) that was (and still is) being constructed without BMF and heavy loads of aftermarket detail parts. Just some cans of spray paint, a few bottles of brush paint, and some GOOD brushes...... Look closely at the engine........almost everything there was brush painted (besides the block); all nuts, bolts, carbs, fittings, lines are brushed. See the difference in mine to yours.......I took my time and used good prep work. The hood was cut, filed, and fit for the hoodscoop. It doesn't look hacked and pieced together. Why? Prep work......believe me when I say even Flat black will show imperfections RIGHT NOW. The chassis was cut and fit to match the body here, and again most of the detail is brush painted. Lots of work went into making it look 'right' , Again, prep and paint work to make it look 'right'. Now that I can have all my good equipment, this kit will still be finished like I started it...with just the basics. Chrome trim, side lights, the Mopar Bronze Pentastar on the passanger fender only; they will be done with brush and I will TAKE MY TIME. Yes, this is not the best looking build and I can see sink marks, ejector pin marks, and some assembly flaws in my own work, and that is also the reason for me picking this very build. As I said, I was 23 or 24 years old when I started this and am now 35 years old. Experience and others wisdom are great teachers. Others offered great advice here and in others of your threads.........please take it as you have talent, just needing to be refined.

Doing the chat room solo???!!!
whale392 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I type too slow for a chat room. The 'Ol Hunt-n-Peck method gets nothing said in a room full of speedy typers. Besides, with fingertips as wide as the keys, hitting just ONE key at a time is a real challange! -
Very nice looking build so far! Another Super Stallion engine that just looks right in a Fox. I look forward to seeing this one completed. (Then again, I am a FOX guy).

Isn't the Ramchargers FED also very close to the 'factory' car in AGII? I have the double sided disc set and watch them more that the girlfriend likes. She just doesn't understand the attraction to cars and 'diggers.

HW Japan (Aoshima internet store) question.
whale392 replied to whale392's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the input guys; and Mike, thank you for the explaination and your shipping experiences with them. Sounds like I will be ordering some stuff then. -
Cliff; you didn't die, run off, or send these builds to the scrapper did you? I am missing my 'Bee' fix!! Help a junkie out brother.........update this thread!

ANOTHER slightly off-topic 1:1 question!!!
whale392 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Eric is pretty dead-on here. Ford themselves offers a 'Warranty-friendly' CAI in their 'Ford Racing' catalog and as long as it is dealer installed will not void the warranty. As to my personal usage, I either went with the BBK unit, a C&L tube with it wrapped in heat blanket, or the Steeda unit. Anderson Ford Motorsports also makes a dang good unit (but the only experience I have is with the Fox chassis). -
doing something i hate..
whale392 replied to 62rebel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All I have to say is 'DItY move'..........no more broken stuff when someone else handles it because now I handle it. Remember, to movers the word 'Fragile' is French for indestructible and they will treat it that way. -
Ok, I was just on the HWJapan (Aoshimas' internet store) and it looks like some of their stuff was last updated in 2009-2008 (and that was just on page 2 of the rims section. I see they have some new 'pre-order' releases listed as well. Anybody had any dealings with them and know anything about their 'update' system? I do not want to go ordering something only to have them come back saying it is out of stock or discontinued when their site shows it in stock (albiet in 2009).

Where did you get the bikes from? They really add character to your build!

Nice Jim. Being I used to run a 65 Dodge, I would screw the torsion bars up and set my pinion snubber right up against the bumpstop on the floor. my leafs were already clamped ahead of the axle, and that thing would LAUNCH when I hit the business pedal. When I got through, I would screw the bars back down and set the snubber back to stock and drive home like nothing ever happened and with an 'It wasn't me, officer' look to the car.

Nice 'Dukes' ride. I can even see the roof (they won't let you show that at the 'other' site....PC pansies).

As a Mopar B-Body fan and owner of 2 1965 Dodge Coronet500s............I like this build and it is looking good.

Model Master Lacquer
whale392 replied to coopdad's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I second the Hobby Lobby notion.......my local hobby shop has both the Laquer clear and the 'Wet Look' clear from Testors for the laquer system. Either will work fine. Tamiya is a mixed bag....I have had good luck, others haven't. -
I thank you for the welcome, and glad the Duster wasn't a total waste to bring. Eventually I MIGHT finish it!

I too will have to go with the Chrysler Hemi (in any of its' guises). Why? Because it is the one engine recognized around the WORLD based solely on sight; and carries the stigma of being a serious horsepower mill. It does not matter what group of car lovers you are in, mention the word HEMI and all ears perk up (either love them or hate them). Modern engines......probably the DOHC 4.6L Fords and the Caddy Northstar line. Caddy because they are compact and tightly designed, and the DOHC Ford because it just looks so dang cool (and both the caddy and the Ford can look Hemi-ish with the right valve covers).

Interesting conversions there Tony! I can honestly say popping the hood on a MarkVII and seeing a 2.3T would definately throw me!
