  1. Also, the BOSS 302 was a Cleveland-headed Windsor blocked engine with a special intake (as the head-to-intake mating surfaces are at different angles for each engine family and the intake bolt pattern is different between the two).
  2. Thank you for the correct info highway......the 260, 289, 302, and 351W all share similar architecture (as the 351W is a 9.5" deck height versus the 8.2" deck height for the rest of the Windsor family). Now, the 351C, 351M, and 400M are of the same family (also the later 3.8L V6 shares Cleveland architecture) in that they have a flat-faced block with everything going into/out of the timing cover. The distributor is slightly offset to the drivers side and is part of the timing housing versus the 351W/302 being cast into the forward portion of the block.
  3. YJIslander, thanks for the advice........list moved and amended. I have had several questions about starting early come up; I say go for it. I guess we could start now and as everyone gets their supplies and kits they can jump in. Ultimate deadline for finishing is still Jan 1st, 2011. More than one entry is fine by me (I love the Fox and never tire of seeing them). I'll be posting progress (or in my case degress) pics of my 83 GLX vert soon. Welcome to the Fox build......hope to have a parking lot full of them!
  4. That is the Lindberg body. The old JoHan kit was a Polara440 or 500 kit, as it had the smooth roof and thinline C-pillars.
  5. Eric, the Fairmont is still being mastered and will be offered in the form of a transkit for some of the older Pro stock kits. Last I heard, it was in test shots and getting finalized. participant list amended.
  6. I like it; then again I am biased to Mustangs and B-Body Mopars.
  7. List of participants amended...welcome to the build. I will amend the participant list as more join and kits are selected. Thanks for the participation everyone, I am ecstatic to see so many joining in!
  8. Very nice Jim. I am still working on mine, and seeing others build inspires me. Keep it going, she is looking good.
  9. Welcome to the fray guys...all Foxes are welcome. Mark, thanks for pointing out the 80 'Bird as being a Fox. And I remember the Durango you linked to.....odd car (kind-of a Fox Ranchero). If we want to get crazy, I will add the Mexican Mustangs and Capris as well, plus some of the early (1979-82) European export Mustangs and Capris. Eric; you might be right on the V6. And if I really wanted to, I could find a Cleveland engine to cut into a V6 as the 3.8 was based on that engine architecture. I'll have to look into it. If it were 1/25th instead of 1/24th, I could use the TBird SuperCoupe engine as a starting point. No problem Dan........no hurry as this doesn't 'officially' start until June 1st!
  10. It looks killer in the sun! I have no doubt it will be spectacular when finished. oversteer has a good idea, and I hope he allows me to expand on it some. A very vivid (electric) blue stripe seperating just the top split might bring both colors to life and add a little more visual 'pop' to the overall scheme.
  11. Highway...you're good (list amended and moved to first post for ease of sight and updating). I am basing mine on one of my real cars; a Triple Black 1983 GLX convertible. However, it will differ as the model will have the 5.0/5spd swap (real car has the 3.8/auto) and sport seats (real car has vynil low-back buckets).
  12. Your 'ugly' is better than my 'pretty'. Nice start so far........color choices?
  13. The more the merrier! No limit to personal entries......I have 14 Foxes started right now, so picking just one for this was merely a matter of finding the one that had the LEAST amount of scratchbuilding needed to replicate one of my real cars! This is open to all scales the Fox was produced as a kit in (1/20, 1/24, 1/25, 1/32) and all kit manufacturers (Revell, Monogram, AMT, MPC, Testors, AAM, Reliable Resin, AFXnScale). Mild custom, full custom, drag, road-race, stock....no problem.
  14. After some consideration and input from participants here, I think June 1st 2010 to Jan 1st 2011 seems ample time (and for those wanting to start early I see no objection to it). Also, being that the Fox4 cars (1994-2004) were based on Foxes but carries radically different styling, I can see your question being a good one.........but it will be limited to the 'true' Ford Fox-Body. Right now, we have one confirmed 1993 Cobra, and I will be working on a 1983-84 Convert. once we get some vehicle confirmations, I will start the participant list and vehicles. Thanks guys!
  15. Race cars will work as well. Street, race, show, mild custom............a Fox qualifies you! I too have about 45 Fox kits (if not more) in my stash; my problem is I have 4 real Foxes and I keep putting the model builds off because I keep working on the real ones and want to replicate them in scale (but the real ones change fast enough that the plastic can't keep up!). Spyder; thanks for the point-out of the delete button, I finally figured out that I had to select what I wanted the post to do from the arrowed box at the bottom. Thank you my friend, I learned something new about the forum today that I will remember. How long do you all think the build should go for? End of the year or a full year from the start time? I build slow (thanks to life getting in the way and my inherent laziness), and I know others do too. That is also why I suggested July 1st as a start time, as it would give others time to finish up other build commitments and gather the supplies needed for this build. Thanks for the input guys; I haven't done anything like this and am glad for all the help. I love the Fox cars, and I know others do too.
  16. As there seems to be about a dozen different 'Community Builds' and a 'Jairus' challenge going on, I figured it would be appropriate to join the fray with something different (but so alike!). This is to gauge interest in a Ford Fox-Body community build. It wouldn't start until sometime mid-summer (July 1st or so) and would be open to all of Fords Fox cars (1978 Grenada/Zephyr/Fairmont platform), 1982-85 LTD LX, 1979-93 Mustang (including the 1984-86 SVO and the various McLaren/ASC variants), 1979-86 Mercury Capri (again, ASC and McLarens welcome), Lincoln MkVIIs, 1980-88 Cougars, 1980-88 Thunderbirds.......you know, 'those' cars. Any takers? Post here and maybe we can get something going (and maybe it will force me to actually finish a build!). List of participants so far: futurattraction : 1978 Futura Pro Stock (scratchbuilt) davezinn : 1979 Cobra and 'Vanilla Ice' 5.0! Jordan White : Revell 1993 Cobra Wagoneer81 : 87 Thunderbird (turbocoupe converted to a V8) highway : 82 Earnhart racing 'Bird Abell82 : 93 LX Fletch : some sort of cat or bird Eric Stone : 79 Cobra modeler : Maybe a 1979 Mustang Cobra with EFI conversion NJ-Wayne : 93 Cobra twin-turbo and a 79 Cobra 2.5T stroker Tony T : 85 SVO Mustang and #1 Whistler Mustang T/A effort Casey429 : 93 Mustang Cobra (old build resurrection) Harold : 84 Thunderbird Mark Brown: 93 Cobra tube chassis car or 85 SVO (whoever gets there first!) 3men2s: 83GT (custom) gregbbear: IMSA Fox (Whistler Mustang) Jeff Johnston: IMSA Motorcraft Mustang and 1979 Pace Car wheelman: 1993 Cobra GTMust: Cafe Racer Mustang (Monogram kit) whale392 : 1983 Mustang GLX Convert and a 1991 Mustang GT Hatch (model of his real car) Finish time frame HAS BEEN EXTENDED from Jan 01-2011 to Jul 01-2011. Closed as a CBP thread as of July 1-2011. REOPENED AS AN OPEN-ENDED FORD FOX HAVEN AS OF JULY 1-2001. NO END DATE.
  17. Looks good in Ruby Slipper Red there Jim.
  18. I must admit to getting this kit for the surfboards for my '30 Woodie build, but after seeing it built up as you have done, I believe I am doing this kit a great injustice by letting it sit unbuilt in its' box. Beautiful trucks!
  19. Always glad to help....I have no time to build something like that. If someone can take some of my ideas and run with them, I feel that I have accomplished something.
  20. With due respect to your idea of 'custom'...............your sketch and list of mods seems pretty slim for a custom. To go with your ideas; the 429 can stay but has to wear some exotic induction system (very possibly EFI), a 5 or 6 speed tranny, IRS, Move the front wheel well openings forward in the fenders, shaved door handles, small cab visor, matched rear wheel well opening radiuses to the front wheelwell openings, run some 17" or 18" stamped steelies with the Baby moons you mention, Orange Pearl paint sounds good, custom type grill, smoothed tailgate with frenched taillights, the woodside bed can stay but the stakes have to be cut down to a reasonable height. Just a few of my thoughts on this.
  21. That's no excuse Cliff, as I constantly work 7pm to 7am.......that is my work schedule. (ok, maybe it is a viable excuse, because looking at my schedule versus my model completion rate shows me that nothing gets done on my models because of my work schedule...) You are excused Cliff.
  22. If you are starting with the 1/25th AMT (ex-MPC) Mustang GT kit, you are about out of luck on the hood. Best to find a wrecked 1/25th 71 Mach1 and use its hood for the center section to graft into the 87-93 hood. The AMT kit is somewhat cheesy in its' own right, being it was cast sometime in 1978 for the 1979 Debut of the Fox. The chassis is horribly simplified and the rear subframes hang down entirely too low for any realism, the front K-Member is terribly simplified and lacking in any real good detail, and the interior is very plain on detail. As to fixing the chassis woes, find the 1/25th AMT 94-95 Mustang GT and use the chassis (and engine) out of it. Also, I see she has the Stalker front bumper on the car....you can modify the kits bumper to somewhat replicate this piece. Being as your pics are horribly small; I think your girls car has t-tops. If so, it would be an 87-88. Luckily, the kit includes the ttop bar, as the kit it was modified from had ttop option available.
  23. This kit does go together suprisingly well, and yours looks good for a two-week build. Color is one a friend of mine shot his Capri in, and I thought it looked good on his real car.
  24. Considering the original poster bumped this back from the dead, we'll let it slide! In all seriousness though, you and this build helped me decide which way to go with the Ramcharger kit I did get a while back. Even though it has stalled due to other projects, be assured that it is getting built and I have you to partially thank for it. Thanks again for the help and inspiration.
  25. They look better than the ones in my real car!
