Now you have me curious Cliff...............great, now I will have to go into the 'Land of the Stalled Projects' to see if both of mine have this problem. I don't remember them having it, but I am dumb and overwhelmed......God knows what I really see!

1/25 AMT White-Freightiner Dual Drive

Just make note of the kits finicky areas and you will enjoy the build! -
Cliff, I had no such problems with my '70 Bee engine. It looks like you have the intake sitting too far forward on the block (observations of a sleep-deprived lunatic). But I digress, as mentioned above, grab the Charger engine with the seperate valley pan and swap the intake over to it. It might not be correct, but it will help hide the 'skylight in the lifter valley' you have going on now!

I was talking to one of the guys here in the hanger who worked on semis before becoming an aircraft mechanic; he stated that the Caterpillar in this kit (3406) is the best he has seen in scale and very accurate to the full size version. He was giving me some detail paint pointers on this......so maybe we have a jewel sitting in this kit! I am not really happy with the fact that the cab snaps onto its platform, as the holes in the body are very noticable and a little tricky to fill given their proximity to rivet detail. Also, the marker lights that are molded to the headlight bezels should be removed and moved back to the flat of the headlight shroud on the fenders for a more accurate appearance. Talking to the trucker who delivered our engine two days ago; he shed some light on the year group of this cab. He stated that it was somewhere between a later 78 to middle 80s cab......and he was impressed enough to go out and buy the kit for himself (being he drives a 2007 W900!).

The styled aluminum wheels, while sexy, are very finicky....very likely to break one of the lock rings if you are not careful. I completely missed the missing grab handles.....looks like it is time to make some. The cab, as mentioned several times in either here or the article in MCM, is a multipiece affair that must be flush sanded to fit properly. I didn't know about the headlight issue until I read the write-up on this build. Also, when I talked to my dad (who drove from 1970-81), he stated that the super sleeper option (if you wish to duplicate that in scale) will add 7/8" to the cab length. I am taking the air ride from the Revell Kenworth W900 Aerodyne and adapting it to this kit, along with transplanting the Cat into it. All in all, I am enjoying the rig builds......even though I know precious little about the real subjects. -
Lurking in this post for some ideas for my RamCharger build! Looks killer so far, and thanks for the ideas.

I also remember that the Mighty Mopars Of Orlando (MMOO) used to have a model show along with their full size car show held at Orlando Dodge years ago. Any word on them?

Some nice looking parts sitting there.

Restore or "Restify?"
whale392 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow, I can see this thread being a repeat of the 69 Charger thread also in here. Nice to see you Mopar guys defending the Pentastar. Remember though, Mopar costs a hell of a lot more to get into and to restore than a Chevy or a Ford does (yes, there are examples of both mentioned liveries that are VERY expensive, but taken as a whole the picture is as I state) and for that reason alone one would consider a restomod versus a full resto-job. I won't mention the money dad has into his Numbers-Matching Original-Owner 1966 Plymouth BelvedereII Hemicar, but I can tell you that you could build a sweet resto-modded example for what he has into the car....and he had most of the parts in his stash from when he was modding the car to begin with!! Should you restore or restomod...........owners discretion mixed with some good judgement and some common sense. I am restomodding my 1991 Mustang GT.....why? Ford built 160,000 of them that year, mine is a no-options base GT, and it has 270,000 miles on the original drivetrain, paint is typical Florida paint (but the body is spotless rust-wise). I see no reason to go back to numbers with this car; restomod it and drive the ever-loving wheels off it! Muscle cars were meant to flex that muscle, and if you can be safe and look good doing it.......go for it! -
That turned out crazy sexy! Great build man.......love it!

What was it powered by originally? What option level was it at? How bad of shape was it in? Had this have been a Hemi 4spd with a sunroof and fully opted in good shape.......that would have been sacrilage. If it were a base 318/auto with no options and in rough shape........they did the car (and the Mopar world) a favor by restomodding it. Now, before you all jump my poop about this opinion, I say this coming from owning two 1965 Dodge Coronet500s...one a drop-top 318 Poly/auto and the other a Hardtop with a healthy 440 stuffed in it. Also, dad is the original owner of a 1966 Plymouth BelvedereII Hemi/auto and the second owner of a 1966 Dodge Coronet500 Hemi/4spd car, plus 6 other mid-60s Mopar B-Bodies..........all of them big-blockers. I love Mopar, and I say what I say out of a collectors eye, a restorers eye, and out of a hobbyists eye.

Who knew street racing Hondas could be so lucritive. Personal opinion here, but of the 4 so far, #3 (Tokyo Drift) was my favorite and actually had more of a story to it than the other 3 did. I will see what #5 and #6 bring. As a side note and thought; I could see how they could somehow bring the kid from the third movie in on either the fifth or sixth, considering Diesel himself ended #3.

Well, I have gotton into this kit a little more........started cutting and test-fitting. I found that the tires in my kits weren't warped (suprise!), and that they were fairly easy to assemble. They still look a little on the narrow side when compared to the AMT versions. In my highway travels, I have come across some Aerodynes that were of a little later buld and the tanks in this kit do mimic the real units fairly well. I am combining two of these kits to form a long-sleeper version; and while the air-ride suspension is simplified, I will cut it from the scrap chassis, detail it as best I can, and drop it onto my White-Freightliner cabover build. I will post pics if anyone is interested, but it will be a few days to a week before I can get anything posted, as I am going into my work week and will be pre-occupied with that and sleep. So far, this kit builds up as I remember it (only now without all the crunching and snapping of 8 year old hands ham-fisting it together!).

That turned out real nice!

If you've gone crazy with the V8, don't forget the Nitrous tank strapped to the push handle (you know, for getting that REALLY tall grass cut)!!

How about starting something new on here.
whale392 replied to LUKE'57's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't forget the 318(both Poly and LA versions) Mopar! 401, Didn't someone also have a 403.....Olds maybe?, 406, 413, 426 (can we celebrate this one twice because it has two engine variations...wedge and Hemi!?),427 (both Ford and Chevy), 428, 429, 502, 528...........list can go on for a while just filling in the gaps I forgot or just don't know about. And yes, 302, 305, 307 for Chevy and 302 for Ford. -
IMEX used to make a series of 1/12th scale Harleys, and some of those kits have an 'extra' pit bike included. The motor for that is almost a dead ringer for a pull-start Briggs, and looks like it could be adapted with little problem.
-
Nice. I want to start my rail soon, but too many other projects in the way.
-
Eric, the tires on those rims are from the 'Fast and Furious' Supra kits..........they look SOOOOOO much better than the stock '05 Stang rubber; and they do look killer on an SVO (trust me, I have seen then on a real 1982 Mustang and an 86SVO.........SEXY!). Brandon; glad I could help, and the car looks 100% better with them under it versus the 'lowrider' fare.
-
Casey, thanks for the compliment on the Cobras. I have a set of FR500s waiting to go on as well. As to the Bullitts, the car has to be the right car to make the Bullitts really shine. I also like the 10th Anny Cobras swapped to a Fox...............but I am biased as all 4 of my Foxes are 5 lugged. The GT is looking sweet; you going to lower it any?

Gotta say, for being away for 10-12 years, you do better work than I do and I have been in it for the last 10-12 years! Outstanding build and it looks great.

The lights turned out great all the same! I would be proud to call that model 'Stang mine!

Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San

That stuff looks great! I might have to order up some of that, as I go to some of the Japanese order houses! -
Too bad the kit didn't come out like the illustration! I think the kit is looking good Raul...........you are giving me ideas for it. I have dug it out, but I just can't quite bring myself to break the seal on it yet! (too much else on my plate at the moment)

Very nice! All she might be able to use are some surf company stickers in either the back or side windows and she is ready for the beach!
