61 Plymouths are one of my favorite full-sized Mopars.......along with the 63 Plymouth Fury and the 65 Dodge Coronet500s. 66/67 Dodge and Plymouth B-Bodies too. Nice job on this 61........I like it.

PLEASE!!!!!!!! Keep us up on where to get these resin Dodges (my dad has had 8 1968-71 Dodge trucks over the years and I am dying to build a model of one for him).

Thanks for the replies and info so far. I am building a model of my real car and I wanted to test the paint on the model as well......as this is to be a representation of how I will have my real car looking. I am using the same paint that will go on the real car and don't want to ruin the plastic model. Thanks again.

How would one go about properly prepping a model body (in this case, a 1983 issue molded in color MPC body) for real automotive paint (in this instance DuPont Chromabase) so that it does not attack (craze, burn, stipple, otherwise harm) the plastic body? I don't see a section here for paint Qs, so I hope tips/tricks/ideas will work. Thanks.

New BBS 20" inch wheels
whale392 replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, waiting for a product eval/summary on these as well. -
The color, stance, wheel choice, and interior color all come together to make this thing look AWESOME!

I have the 'Crazy Van' issue of this kit in my stash, and was going to do it as a Mopar parts delivery van, but after seeing this I might just have to change the direction of the build. Dodge vans look cool (then again, I grew up a Mopar kid) with some slight custom touches!

I can see the Orange......it will definately make the trucks lines 'pop' (especially if you lay a 'Winfield Style' fade as a base under the Orange). Bright silver under the Orange with a light mist of Bright Metallic Red laid on the fender rolls and roof breaks, overcoated in the Fiery Orange.

I was building the Hippie Hemi (minus the gay bodywork) and noticed the frame was horribly warped. I got the frame together, zip-tied the bottom rails to a piece of wood (thus straightening the frame) and set it in the composite oven at work (set to 110 degrees) for 4 hours (that's when I took break). Immediately after removing it from the oven and with it still attached to the wood, I dunked it in ice-cold water for 15 minutes (length of my break). Cut the zip ties and no more bent frame. It even held its straight shape after paint and baking (again at 100 degrees this time and for 4 hours).

Looks great with the chopped top! Already got a color picked out? If not, I was experimenting with colors and came up with one I ended up liking...........Light Silver Metallic as a base, 2 coats of Transparent Black Window Tint, 2 coats of Gloss Pearl Clearcoat, and then cleared and polished.

WHY DO I BUILD & WHAT MAKES ME TICK?
whale392 replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hastings, Michigan?! That is where I was born and spent 11 years of my life! My dad was an auto mechanic (still is) who also raced cars (still does that too). I got into them at an early age as you might guess. I also found some of my dads kits and trashed (under the guise of building...hey, I was trying to build them anyway) them...really valuable kits today. We moved to Florida when I was 11; dad still wrenched and raced, so I was still involved. Started building and modifying models and soon real cars as well. Still here doing it, and so is dad. -
The Dime looks great........very much the ride it was meant to be.
-
Beautiful build! I love the 240-280Zs..........your build does the real car justice.

They've been saying this thing has been coming for almost a year now..........bad when it takes longer to get a plastic car to market than it does a real car.

Mopar '69 "Recall" wheels...
whale392 replied to LVZ2881's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They were a dull aluminum color with the raised lips on the hole edges chromed (if I remember correctly). -
I just soiled my keyboard...........that Charger is looking dead SEXY!

Should have stuck to chicken farming. He wasn't even that good of a racer, he just had good talent drive for him.

Central Florida Mopar and Car Model Show
whale392 replied to 58 Impala's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I belonged to Mighty Mopars of Orlando (well, I hung out with dad who was/is a member) for a while and used to participate in their model car shows (as well as the real car shows) when they were held at Orlando Dodge. They were always good shows! -
Acura Integra - color of chassis?
whale392 replied to Steve362's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just as most other OEMs, the chassis will be greyish primer color with overspray of body color at its outer edges. -
Car looks good so far, but I can't say I care for putting a Chevy motor in it.

Beautiful build! no GTXs back in 66, but that is a killer Belvedere you have. My dad also owns (original, one owner) a 66 BelvedereII Hemi/auto that I am working on replicating (Turbine Bronze Metallic with the black bench interior). I love that car..............and yours looks great.

1982-92 Camaro
whale392 replied to Roadkill2525's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Like much else in the 80s (Mustangs, Front-drive Mopars, the beginning of Imports) they were considered anemic, underpowered, uninspired pieces of utilitarian transport appliances. Everyone still wanted a musclecar in the 80s, and the cars of the time were forgotton and often not kitted or kitted poorly (who cares, it's not a musclecar was the mentality). A shame too as some really cool cars came from that time, and led to what was later to be and kitted. -
Parts for my real Mustang...maybe even get it closer to running.
