  1. I don't think Revell makes diecast anymore. I used to sell and distribute them and i havent seen or heard anything about Revell diecasts in years except for some Revell Germany stuff, but i think they quit importing that into the US. Round2 is also AutoWorld HO slot cars, they make a lot of cars with printed tires, pretty much all of the NHRA stuff has them. I'd like to see anything, even gibberish on the sides of tires, the smooth side just look funky. Funny thing is I was looking at the official Ferrari site for the LaFerrari and they had removed the sidewall marking from the tires on the pics(or they might have been 3D renders). I thought that was strange.
  2. So, when we grab the pitchforks and torches and march on Round2's offices demanding they re-tool the Goodyears, they're just gonna laugh at us, right?
  3. Round2 has a blanket deal that covers their kits, diecasts, and slot cars. More products to offset the cost. Revell just has kits (but I'd venture a guess that they sell more $$$ in kits than Round2 sells kits+die casts+slot cars). Revell (Germany)'s new LaFerrari has branded tires (the wrong brand for the 1:1 but at least they have something on the sidewalls) so that situation may be changing, at least with the German division.
  4. Body emblems on the ZL1 are sharp enough to paint/foil. It doesn't absolutely need decals, but gauges and assorted whatnot would have been nice. Challenger might need decals, I really haven't looked at them I have no interest in that car.
  5. Still hasn't ruled out my interior idea!!! I think it'd be awesome that's what it turned out to be! Only seen that done on some Japanese kits.
  6. You sure about that 1.00" OD on the L-60? I'm pretty sure they're larger than the F60. Typo?
  7. Well, to be fair that was AMT/Ertl, two or three ownerships ago... Ertl(1981)->Racing Champions(1999)->RC2(Racing Champions + Learning Curve merger ca.2003)->Round2 licenses brands and tooling from RC2/Tomy(2008)->Round2 outright ownership (Dec. 2011)
  8. Personally I like 'em. if the L looks right on the front, use it. Wipe the letter(s) off with lacquer thinner if it bothers you that much. I'll try to find my calipers and see how these measure up tonight... Here's the 1:1 sizes if anybody wants to tackle this first: F60-15 overall diameter 25.9", section width 9.20" (would be 1.036" and 0.368" in 25th scale) L60-15 overall diameter 27.86", section width 10.50 (1.11" and 0.42")
  9. Smithers! Buy me 10,000 shares of Amalgamated Fainting Couch & Clutchable Pearls immediately!
  10. Yup, an overnight soak in 91% stripped it clean.
  11. I hope they do follow through with molded in white version with decals. It's already got so much going for it over the AMT kit that would really put it over the top. 91% Alcohol seems to be doing the trick, the blackout on the hood came off in just a few minutes and the thin coat on the underside of the hood is already coming off with a little scrubbing. I'll let it soak for a day or two.
  12. My favorite? "Rocket 88" by Jackie Brenston & Ike Turner. But out of the choices given I'll take Little Deuce Coupe.
  13. I don't think so, they're not being marketed as such. Haven't seen the new one in person yet, usually traditional hobby shops get new stuff before Hobby Lobby, don't know how they pulled that off.
  14. Looks great! I have one of the new reissues too and I was amazed at how clean it was (especially compared to the flash-fests that were some of the other Round2 reissues) and the new decal sheet is a major upgrade over the old one. Jim Small is one of the leading experts on the Eagle Transporter and he does the box-top builds for most of Round2's sci-fi kits. He ahd a lot to do with this reissue and his masters are being used for the resin parts in the upcoming deluxe Eagle kit with all the extra boosters and whatnot. The new accurized Moon Base Alpha is now shipping, I might have to snag one of those, too!
  15. Kit # 85-4242, was issued around 2009, but isn't currently in the lineup. Shouldn't be too hard to find. This kit is also a source for the popular "Guide" aftermarket headlights.
  16. Yup. They couldn't get (or didn't try to get) the actors' likeness rights in time for the first release, so they went with comic-book style figures for the snapper and no figures for the glue kits.
  17. Well, oven cleaner didn't strip it. Will try some 91% Alcohol next.
  18. Nope, this one has brand-new resin figures that actually look like Adam West and Burt Ward.
  19. Stop?!?! These are the first plastic prepaints in like 10 years! And they're the first to my knowledge to have a lower price point than regular unpainted kits. And under the paint they are also molded in color, so win-win, right?
  20. I kinda see the logic (but then again I am a corporate stooge...) Round2 is making a big marketing push that all Lindberg kits are made in the USA. The Lindberg Crown Vic is a J Lloyd-era kit made in China, which would lead me to believe that it is going away (or possibly sold off), leaving a hole in the market. Revell will be able to circulate their kit to a far wider market than Lindberg had or will have under Round2. As I mentioned before either in this thread or another, Revell chose this subject because they could have it out in time for this Christmas, when other subjects would have taken more time. It is a rush job to create new product for a new line that the new leadership at Revell wants on the shelves by Christmas. And take it from somebody inside the industry, snap kits sell big-time around Christmas, I'd say probably 80% of sales of snappers occur during the holiday season. And I seriously doubt that very many of those sales are to the membership of the MCM forum... So, in summary - Get a kit onto shelves in time for this year's Christmas season putting $$$ into pockets and making Revell happy. Those $$$ may end up being used to fund new tooling that makes the serious modelers happy. It won't flop, I'll guarantee your that. 1/25th snap kits don't flop. Ever.
  21. For this month's tentative schedule I'm showing the Yellow 2015 Mustang snapper, the Hot Rod Hydro (née Hemi Hydro), the Blue Bandito (née Blue Beetle), 1/24 Black Widow (released a couple of years ago under the SSP program, now it'll be in the regular lineup), and the aforementioned Camaro and Challenger prepaints to non-RPP shops. It's always subject to change, but I'd expect them to update their site with more items as they get them into their warehouse.
  22. Well, the prepaint Camaro and Challenger go into full distribution in September, only RPP shops got them in August.
  23. From Wikipedia: Feel like that certainly applies in this case. I've seen it happen with Art on this board too. Guess folks think that's how to make a name for themselves by attacking respected figures in the hobby...
  24. It is a massive 1:1 object. Even the 1/72 is a fairly large kit (around 3' long). Was carried by a train 25 cars long. Took 250 men 3 days to assemble it. Took thousands more to lay the special track needed to aim and traverse the gun, dig the embankments and man the 2 full AA battalions to protect it from air attack. Two were built, Schwerer Gustav and Dora, Schwerer Gustav was only used once in combat, in Sevastopol. Began its move to the front in February 1942 , wasn't ready to fire until June, it fired 48 shells over the span of 12 days. Each gun would be moved and attempted to be made ready to fire once more, Schwerer Gustav near Leningrad and Dora near Stalingrad. WWII German excess at it's finest. They really were their own worst enemies...
  25. I'll be giving oven cleaner and 91% Alcohol a shot tonight (mine was at work during the long weekend, forgot to grab it Friday!) one of them ought to do the trick.
