We just used kits from our regular stock. Thanks to Revell we were able to get our new Mustang shipment in advance with the caveat that we didn't sell them until the end of the month when the kits go on sale to the general public. But giving them away was totally fine! Worked out that the kit was in country just in time for our event. It was a last minute idea I had a week or two back "I wish the new Mustang could be here in time..." The boss made a few calls, cashed in a few favors and we were able to get them in time. Revell will be offering the 15 Mustang as part of the Make n Take program.

2015 Ford Mustang Snap Kit as a giveaway at NAIAS
Brett Barrow replied to carsntrucks4you's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The only difference with the retail version is the grilles and taillight panels aren't already pressed in. Everything else appears to be the same as the Auto Show giveaways. Super simple, perfect first kit especially for younger kids. Box says 6+ I'd say you could go even younger than that. It can be built 100% by the kids without adult help, no tools necessary. I did a quick little video this morning about it. - http://youtu.be/kj0bp2nIsCk We did a Make n Take event over the weekend with these, they were a big hit! Here's mine, of course I lowered it a little. Doesn't roll so smooth now, but it does look better... -
Might have been a little bit of both! Here's my 2015 Mustang, of course I couldn't leave well enough alone so I lowered mine to a better looking ride height. I think I'll take it home and do a little detail painting and maybe come up with some headlight decals. The one Bob Downie did for the new issue of Scale Auto looks amazing. Here's the ride height out of the box, mine doesn't roll so smooth anymore, but it certainly looks better! I can't say enough how impressed I am with this new simpler style of snap kit, everything that gave the kids problems with the other snap kits -- like interior door panels - every kid I worked with tried to put the darned things in with the detail facing out... or pressing the wheels onto the axles or screwing in the chassis screws -- has been eliminated, simplified, or already done in this new kit. You can give this to a kid and let them build it 100% on their own. Hopefully it leaves them wanting more and they'll go for a more advanced snap (or maybe even glue) kit next time.

It definitely has been airbrushed, but it might just be that the front was in shadow and they airbrushed it to pop it out a little. Might be something they threw together for the photo shoot. Who knows? -
MegaHobby.com (where I work during the week) and AAA Hobbies in Magnolia, NJ (where I work on Saturdays) had a Make 'n Take event this past Saturday. We had snap model kits and other crafts and sceince kits as well. We had a great turnout and the weather was perfect. We were able to get some 2015 Mustangs in for the event and they were a huge hit. No one, kids or parents, had any problems with them. Revell has a winner on their hands with these, they're perfect for this type of event. I think we might have hooked a few new modelers, I know several families went straight from the event over to AAA and bought some more kits! Read our blog post here: http://megahobbyblog.blogspot.com/2014/06/recap-hobbyfest-2014.html The local newspapers did a couple articles, this one ran before the event, http://www.courierpostonline.com/story/life/2014/06/13/cool-things-find-barringtons-hobbyfest/10506145/ This one after: http://www.nj.com/camden/index.ssf/2014/06/hobbyfest_in_barrington_offers_fun_for_all_ages.html That's me on the right, I thought I was leaning out of the shot. I didn't lean far enough!!!

Wood Brothers Car Hauler
Brett Barrow replied to 2002p51's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Wow, I missed this the first time around, glad it got bumped back to the top. I grew up not far from the Wood Bros' shop, they're were in Stuart Va, I grew up in Ridgeway Va which is the actual town Martinsville Speedway is located in. Wonder how many times that truck made the trip down US 58 to race at Martinsville or passed through on the way to other tracks? In fact, those concrete stands in that last picture look a lot like what I remember Martinsville looking like when I was a kid. Martinsville was the Daytona of Modifieds so it wouldn't surprise me that the Woods would run a modified there. -

There's no stock height rear springs since they're on the tree with the shaker hood and scoop. You've got the makings of a pretty mean Street Machine with this kit, though. I didn't get a chance to look at the Mustang drag car since all 3 from our RPP shipment sold out on Friday the day they came in, and I wasn't there until Saturday morning! -

Brett Barrow replied to kitswapper's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
If the Ronnie Sox site caine440 linked to is correct they ran a model year "71" at the calendar-year 1970 season-ending NHRA Supernationals. Could very likely be that they just stuck 71 parts on the existing 70 car to finish out the season, then built new 71 cars for the 71 season. -

When I first saw that in the kit I thought it was for an old-school metal axle. Took me a minute to remember the real cars had the tie rod running through the pan. -

It looks like the kit is based on the car that was restored around 2005-2006 that I beleive currently resides in the W.P. Chrysler Museum, and it seems to be a pretty accurate representation of that. I'm guessing that's the same car mentioned by Tim in his post above. Whether or not that restored car is an NHRA, ARHA, match race or whatever car I'm not sure. Here's a period photo of it in action, judging by the lack of numbers I'd guess that it's a match race car, but that appears to be an AHRA shield on the C pillar. - -

amt 66 mustang hardtop
Brett Barrow replied to youpey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The AMT 66 is the old annual kit. You could probably make their modern-tooling 67 Shelby chassis work with some modification. Trumpeter Falcon could be an option, too. All the Revell/Monogram early Mustangs are 1/24th. -

Johan's kit was a 71. Do you have photos of the 70 S&M Cuda engine bay? I've seen pictures of the 71 that have flat fabricated inner fenders, but all I've been able to find of the 70 show production inner fenders. Here's a Tim Boyd post from the SA forum, maybe he'll be along to shed some light on the subject. The main thing I noticed wrong on the Revell kit is the battery is still shown in the stock location under the hood. And I'm not sure that the S&M car had a power brake booster (and I don't remember if the Revell kit only has the power booster. I only glanced at the kit, I didn't buy it because I don't like to take the RPP shipment away from paying customers at our shop, I wait until the regular shipment comes in) . But I think all the meat is there to make this kit spot on with a little omission or modification of parts. It's certainly much better than the Hemi Dart of a few years back. It might be one the best street-to-race conversion Revell has done, probably on par with the Fireball Roberts 57 Ford. -
Lighten up Francis, it was a joke. Is losing one's sense of humor part of the aging process as well? I hope not...

Shoot mrknowetall (Don Banes) a PM. I believe he keeps in touch with him. I don't think Don checks this far down the board.

Revell announces new line of snap kits
Brett Barrow replied to gasman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
To get back to the original topic, we did a Make n Take event today with the new Mustang and some other snap kits, the new Mustang is the perfect snap kit for a kid. Nobody had trouble with them, they went together quick enough they didn't lose interest. We were doing two models with the kids, most picked the Mustang and another Revell snap car. Some of the others gave the kids trouble. We had to help them out a lot with the other kits and some of those gave even me problems (the Gravedigger chassis - how is any kid supposed to get that thing together? Gave me fits!). I noticed how the kids would start to lose interest after a couple minutes struggling with parts they couldn't figure out. First thing they all - and I mean all - did was tear every single part off the parts tree, even after I said not to! The new Mustang doesn't have parts trees, they're already off. The one they gave out at auto shows already had the grilles and taillights pressed in, in the ones that will be sold in stores they're still separate. The glass is already installed (with the black surrounds already painted) as are the headlights. The axles are already pressed into the wheels (pressing the wheels onto the axles gives most kids problems). Previous snap kits have always been more of a "do it with mom or dad's supervision" but this one can be done by a kid all by themselves. -
Revell Sox & Martin Pro Stock Cuda
Brett Barrow replied to kitswapper's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Looked though one today myself. Nice to see there's a coil and cool can that mount on the passenger side inner fender, we've been wondering what was going in those unused holes since the stock kit came out. They're not shown on the box model, but they're in there. I don't think all the stock parts are in there as I don't recall seeing another hood but the pro stock. To say it's a stock car with a few drag parts is a bit unfair as 1970 Pro Stock was just an offshoot of Super Stock and the cars were still fairly stock. -
This is what happens when you let old people on the internet. They create an eBay account and immediately proceed to sell their 55 Chevy for $100 in the model kits section. Kids, don't let your grandparents on the internet unsupervised. This internet is serious business.

Thanks for the review. Nice to see there's little flash, Round 2 seems to have been getting better with some of their recent ones. My 40 Willys was covered in it, but the 36 Ford had practically none. I've never built a truck model before, but I'm seriously thinking of picking one of these up. Might as well start with the one that started it all! BTW the Car Model article Tim references can be viewed online at the Model Encyclopedia website. It includes instructions on how to make the steering workable and also how to scratchbuild a sleeper. http://www.modelencyclopedia.com/magazines.php?MagId=123&PageNum=27

Wondering the same thing myself. Pretty sure the tires are the Revell "rat rod" tires and the wheels look like Chevy Rally wheels left all-chrome. Pretty neat!

2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe

Saw one this morning on the way to work, thought it was a Maserati. Then I read this thread. "Oh, so that's what I saw this morning...." -
That's why selling cast-to-order parts on eBay isn't a good idea. Make up the stock first and then sell it. Or limit your sales to only the stock you can produce in a reasonable turnaround time. Ever wonder why Rep&Min doesn't have a website or sell on eBay? Snail mail and shows are all the business he can handle comfortably. Too much business is more likely to do a resin caster in than not enough business...
