Wow, lots of rampant speculation in this thread, but hey, isn't that what this place is all about?!?! First off, I said that I heard (and this was from someone not directly connected with Revell) that they were waiting to hear back on some licensing deals from the companies that issue the licenses, meaning that they had applied for the licensing, but had not gotten the word back from the license holders, not that they had forgotten to apply for the licensing. Second, Revell NEVER gave a date when they would make the announcement, so who says they're running anything but right on time?

The Academy-Minicraft relationship ended at least 10 years ago. They have nothing to do with each other now. Academy is now imported by MRC. I'm going to venture a guess that these two kits in particular are Tamiya copies. Academy got their start about 30 years ago making copies of Tamiya models, and Tamiya also made kits of these same two subjects.

35th won out when all was said and done after the early days of "box scale". Tamiya's 1st tank kit, the German Panther tank, happened to scale out to 1/35 after being sized to fit a standard motor and gearbox (because Japanese models just HAD to be motorized back in the day...), so they stuck with the scale for their later releases. Other scales had been established, too - 1/40 (Revell, Adams) and 1/32 (Monogram, Renwal, Airfix), but they had their roots in early box scale kits as well. Once other companies like Italeri and Peerless Max joined Tamiya's 35th scale it became the scale of choice for serious military modelers.

Well, you usually have to have mock-ups to show to the licensing folks, so some development has to be done beforehand. I'm sure they know what it takes to get the car companies' licensing by now. It's possible it might be some sort of movie/TV show deal they're waiting on, those are a little bit different. But that's just me speculating. They could be running right on schedule...

We though it'd be iHobby weekend because that's when they did it last year, but IIRC, iHobby was later in October last year. Last I heard they were waiting on the OK about some licensing agreements that apply to some of the new announcements. There's a couple good 'uns in this year's batch, trust me...

I'm gonna guess it'll be white like most current Revell kits. The pics are of a test shot, which are made from whatever plastic they have handy.

2014 Moebius Truck Kit Releases
Brett Barrow replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I think it's the wheels and tires from the ProStar/Lonestar. I'm checking now to make sure. -
It's parts from the Dodges combined with the Belvedere kit. Never been offered in this form before, the Plymouths were only done in street and NASCAR versions. With a hardtop body and 4-light grill, the engine should be the Max Wedge. The Hemi Plymouths were almost all post sedans.

Round 2 Grumpy Jenkins' 66 Nova
Brett Barrow replied to Brett Barrow's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
They're shipping to distributors right now. I should have one by Saturday, might get a chance to sneak a peek at one today. -
I believe the correct technical term for cars like the 911 is a "2+2". As in 2 usable human-sized seats, plus 2 seats no one over the age of 7 will ever sit in...

Hot Knife Tool
Brett Barrow replied to Old Nasty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
These things actually have a useful purpose - use them to remove clear parts from the sprues without cracking. Also works well with small, delicate parts that would get crushed and broken when trying to remove them with clippers or Xactos. I use a hot knife for these jobs all the time, but usually I just hold an Xacto in a torch flame instead of breaking out the hot knife/soldering iron. I have one, but it's buried somewhere deep in the tool box. I wouldn't recommend running out and buying one if you don't already have one. -
Make that a 1964 Impala.

AMT M&H Racemaster Dragster Slicks & Parts Pack Tires
Brett Barrow replied to Gregg's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
On the water right now, according to Round2/AMT. Should be in stores around the end of the month. -
The Revel US boxing is still planned for Nov. They didn't import many (if any at all) of the Revell-Germany boxings because a US box had already been planned before the RoG kit was released. Once a US box comes out it tends to turn the (usually higher priced) German boxing into a dust collector. There's no planned US boxing of the Cabrio, so look for that one in the RoG box. http://www.hobbyshipper.com/cgi-bin/wsr600p?V=RMX&I=RMXS4192

Why not these things
Brett Barrow replied to raildogg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Start with Meng, as I said in an earlier post, they're looking to enter the 24/25th scale market. If it's going to happen it would happen with one of the newer, smaller companies. marketing1@meng-model.com -
Why not these things

Yes, they do. Revell's snap-together kits are their top sellers. But you can keep selling the same snap-together kits over and over to new groups of beginning modelers, you have to keep making new glue kits. When's the last time Revell discontinued a snap-together kit? -

I said the REISSUE was 1,500 pieces. I know that is a fact because it IS a fact - my company bought nearly 1/3 of the run! I don't know how many pieces they made in the first run, it was 1984, I was 7 years old at the time. Was not working in the business at the time... I am now and have been for the last 12 years. I'm not saying I'm always right, but I speak from personal experience in this business. My opinion isn't gospel by any stretch, but it's not to be taken lightly, either. When I speak, I speak from experience. This is what I do. -

You're right, they are, I picked those particular figures just to make the math easy and to illustrate my point. The actual numbers don't matter in the context of this discussion. -

I just got to fondle a sample of one of these today: It's reeeeally nice, but it's $90 retail. We'll see what it ends up streeting at, probably around $75. I think if we're going to see something like this in 24/25th scale, it would likely come from a company like Meng, one of the smaller newer startup companies looking to make a splash. Meng has been all over the place with their first few releases, I know they have been looking at entering the 24/25th scale market, who knows what kind of subject they would pick, but it could be something like this. If they do, it won't be cheap... But I just don't see one of the mainstream US companies producing something like this in today's market. -

Every time one of these "Hey model kit companies, think outside the box, try something different" type threads comes up, I can't help but think of these smoking hot piles of dog excrement. But hey, they thought outside the box and tried something different, didn't they?!?!? These were all pretty nice kits, but man are they dogs in the sales department. Hey, how 'bout a bass boat? That's different! : There were several decal variations of each of these non-NASCAR racecars: I don't know who thought up this one, let's just say it wasn't a winner: -

I was working in the business, so sometime in the last 10-12 years. I want to say 2004, maybe?
