  1. Id say he's probably the only kit designer known by name by the general modeling public in the US. Inside the industry I'd say George Totef, who developed the one-piece slide-molded body for AMT, then went on to found MPC and later led the resurrection of Lindberg in the 90's would be the most famous designer. There's also John Mueller, who goes back to the 60's with AMT, and was one of the instrumental figures ushering in the "modern era" of Chinese-tooled model kits.
  2. RPP shops should be getting these now. My LHS got theirs yesterday.
  3. If you want to get really specific it's the engine from Hollywood Hot Rods' recreation of the "Grasshopper", the 1:1 car that inspired Monogram's Green Hornet. http://hollywoodhotrods.com/the-grasshopper-aka-the-green-hornet/
  4. There was an SSP reissue about 10 years ago. Says "Monogram Classics" instead of "Four Star Plastikit" and there is more artwork visible across the bottom of the box.
  5. December.
  6. The best model kit? I'd say it's whatever kit got the most number of folks hooked on car modeling... The kit I remember that really freaked my freak when it came out was Monogram's 59 Caddy back in the early 90's.
  7. It's all-new, I can guarantee that. Maybe it's not "state-of-the-art", but it is all-new.
  8. Click the post title so it opens the post in its own page, or click where it says "no comments". Both will open the comment box.
  9. You do realize Mr. Boyd writes for Model Cars as well (and is a member of this forum)???
  10. Probably had an NHRA-legal car and a not-so-legal car for match racing. That was how the Pro Stock class came to be in 1970, because of the huge crowds that Sox & Martin, Grumpy Jenkins, et al. were drawing for their heads-up anything-goes Super Stock match races, they turned those into the new Pro Stock class. The 70 Cuda did have an optional elastomeric front bumper, that's what the red one is.
  11. It's been slated for December on all the official Revell schedules since it first appeared on September's list.
  12. Tommy Ivo and his twin-Buick dragster with Tony Nancy. The left-hand blown Buick was Nancy's.
  13. That's the Ken's Automotive's "Odd Couple" Top Gas dragster. SBC and Hemi power...
  14. Or the driver hadn't pressed the Mad Max "engage supercharger" button...
  15. Not out yet. Soon. Within a month, maybe?
  16. It ain't a dragster, but I always thought this was pretty wild....
  17. Wow, if the worst thing about this kit is a few non-factory stock decals...
  18. Check out Tim Boyd's 48 Ford Gasser build for the "other magazine". He did exactly that. It's an online-exclusive article, I won't post a link since they're the competition...
  19. I've been under the impression that the 71 Demon would be restored from the MPC 75 Dart Sport tooling, which was originally the 71 Demon.
  20. They could call it "Roger", and I'll still buy it. It's gonna be an awesome kit!
  21. In the little photo booklet you get with the recent reissue of AMT's Ohio George Willys there are several pictures from when the car was in AMT's facility being measured. It has a tape grid applied to it, and a couple pics have a measuring stick in them.
  22. RPP shops got them a week or two ago, they went into wide distribution this week. Revell always ships at the end of the indicated month. The month is more a reminder to their dealers about when they need to get their orders in. So when it comes to Revell, just remember that you should see it on shelves right around the first of the next month, unless your LHS participates in the RPP program, they get them about a week or two early.
  23. Yes, they are. Says so right on the box. "Sizzlers" were rechargeable battery-powered Hot Wheels that ran around a track. You recharged them from the "Juice Station", which looked like a gas pump. Since Mattel (Hot Wheels) also owned Monogram at the time they made the Sizzlers I imagine they worked out some sort of deal to retain the exclusive rights to the name.
