Parachuting dead mice. What will they think of next?
Brett Barrow replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The snakes are causing $4 million a year in damage to the power grid in Guam. If it takes an $8 million solution that's a bargain in the long term... -
Noticed Fotki was acting a little strange last night, figured they must have been starting whatever it was they're doing to bring all the missing picutres back. Checked my own Fotki and some of my favorites I keep bookmarked and found that a good majority of the missing pictures are back! Some pages that were totally blank yesterday now have about 75-90% of their pictures back. Good news, I've always liked Fotki and how it worked and it's great to see the missing pictures start to come back online.

1950 Oldsmobile Wagon Conversion
Brett Barrow replied to Erik Smith's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I think you got that backwards... Lemme see how much OPM I get for Christmas. -
I'm pretty sure Horizon Hobby is their US importer. Try http://www.horizonhobby.com. But if they don't carry an item, it's unlikely anyone else in the US will have it since Horizon is the US source.

Question on Revell 68 Mustang GT kit..85-4215
Brett Barrow replied to roym's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It was based on diecast tooling (in fact, I think it was originally a Bullitt die-cast). The body's a little slab-sided, but not nearly as bad as the diecast-based 70 Challenger that came out around the same time. It has a metal axles and screws in the chassis and rather simplified parts breakdown. There's a review here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17689 -
Instructions art
Brett Barrow replied to lordairgtar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know John Mueller and Jim Foster both drew instruction sheets for AMT in the 60's. Mr. Mueller went on to become a kit designer and is still active in the industry (his latest designed kit is the new Revell '70 Hemi 'cuda) and Mr. Foster is the current President of Revell. They were both hired by AMT on the same day, if I remember the story correctly. -
Snagged the new Moebius '56 Chrysler 300B. These should be in hobby shops and retailers soon.

What does "WIP" means?
Brett Barrow replied to Clemi's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
A friend of mine gave me the nickname "Wip" because I rarely finish anything and all my models are works in progress... -

The Ken's Automotive's "Odd Couple" Top Gas dragster with the SBC and Hemi that was posted earlier won the Top Gas class at NHRA Winternationals the last year the class was run (1971, IIRC) The "Freight Train" twin engine Top Gas dragster was highly successful and probably the best-known twin engine dragster of all time. The twin engine dragsters were more successful (dominant, really) running in the lower "Top Gas" class, but did not find much success in the top-level "Top Fuel" class after Top Gas was discontinued. Probably why they're not as well-known, they were never as sucessful at the highest level of drag racing. -
Revell Germany 1st quarter 2014 releases..
Brett Barrow replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I think technically they're 4th qtr 2013 releases, but they're doing limited edition reissues of the 1/16 scale Karmann Ghia coupe and the Rally version of the 1/24 Unimog. Probably hit the States in Jan or Feb. -
The series are also grouped by price point.

Renwal Models
Brett Barrow replied to my80malibu's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Renwal was an early model company, based on Long Island and known primarily for their military models. They did a series of car kits known as the Renwal Revival series, they were modern takes on classic cars. Renwal was bought by Revell in the late 60's or early 70's. One of Revell's best known and longest running models, the 1/4 scale Visible V-8, was originally a Renwal model. Revell has been reissuing some of the old Renwal kits in original-style packaging recently.
