I don't think he comes here anymore. He's over at TRaK now.

Probably made from a bad batch of Zamak. It'll corrode and eventually cause the paint to flake off.

Hobby Shops... Are They Viable Today?
Brett Barrow replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Most shops around here only sell used stuff on consignment, especially R/C stuff, if they sell used stuff at all. Most don't. -

Looks like "Stoudt Auto Sales", still in business today as a used Corvette specialist in Reading, PA. http://www.stoudtautosales.com/index.htm -
The Revell Germany 1/35 kit is the ICM kit reboxed. It's ICM's tooling. Revell Germany reboxes a bunch of ICM kits nowadays.

Correct. It's all got to do with the car's shipping weight vs. its NHRA-approved HP rating - most of the time it's the advertised HP, but NHRA would adjust if they thought a particular engine was under rated. You're basically running against your class' national ET record. -
Thanks, Tim. I've been meaning to take some pics of mine, I started scanning the instructions but gave up after 10 pages - it's 36 pages long! - and haven't felt like setting up my light box.

whats exotic?
Brett Barrow replied to DrewCfromSC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you look at "exotic car" dealerships, you'll see Corvettes, Vipers, Ford GT's, Cadillac CTS-V's, Shelby Mustangs, high-end Camaros, etc... But as a model car category, I'd lean towards the typical Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi R8, -
Instant Gratification: AMT's 1958 Edsel Pacer Prepaint
Brett Barrow replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in Model Cars
Looks great! I just bought one of these on the bay... Hope the paint is decent. Probably end up doing what you did, foil and paint detailing. -
That is reeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllly sweet!!! If it were mine, it'd have Supremes and the factory tri-tone red vinyl interior, like this, or maybe even a custom black/gunmetal/silver tri-tone....

The only car kit I can think of in my collection that isn't a substantially different issue is the AMT 62 Bel Air drag version, I have 2 different decal versions. I have both the Revell 62 Impalas (SS and non-SS), both 57 Fords (stock and NASCAR), both 62 Corvettes (stock and gasser), both AMT 70 1/2 Camaros (Z/28 and Baldwin Motion), those are all the ones I can think of that share the same basic body shell between 2 kits. I've bought 2 Revell 49 Merc customs, but only had one at a time. Airplanes, on the other hand, I must have at least 6 Tamiya 1/48 P-51D's, and 3 or 4 P-51B's. 3 or 4 of their P-47's. I have at least a dozen different decal sheets for each of those. Tanks, too, I have 3 of DML's first-issue late Tiger 1 (I wish now I'd waited for the newer one with molded-on Zimmerit) and I don't know how many various-mark Shermans I have in 35th and 48th, probably 20? I'm a bit of a Shermaniac...

Revell Shelby Mustang Hertz edition
Brett Barrow replied to richellis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
From the SAAC forum - documented Hertz color breakdowns by Shelby expert Howard Pardee - Wimbledon White: 72 Raven Black : 736 Sapphire Blue : 57 Candyapple Red : 59 Ivy Green : 59 This leaves 16 or 17 unknown. The original order was for 800 black and 50 of each other color. -
50 Olds Custom Interior
Brett Barrow replied to sfhess's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Ed blew out the molds for this and at the moment doesn't plan on doing new ones, so he's down to just stock on hand that he's already cast. Get 'em now while you still can. -
Sanded off all the drip rails and redid with Evergreen .010" x .020" strip. The one over the rear window was incorrect (too short) and the ones on the sides were wonky on the rear pillar (especially on the passenger side)

I think they way Revell handled the splash pan is the best possible way to do it for a factory-stock build. The factory stock splash pan is silver, not body color as I've seen on some. If it was body color then maybe splitting it like the real thing would be better, but then you'd need to glue 2 painted pieces together during final assembly, and that's never easy. The way Revell does it makes it easy to paint silver and then the frame and body interlock at the front without glue. What you see when the bumper is on looks right. If you want to do a bumperless gasser, then yeah, you've got some work ahead. The way the fins blend into the deck is wonky, and looks to me like a 3D modeling issue, it looks like the computer or operator just filled in the shape based on the shape of the taillight panel. It's like that's what it "thought" that area should look like. And I agree, I think this is one of Revell's best new models since Hobbico took over a few years ago, maybe THE best.

Give me #1 with chrome steelies and a slight forward rake, but then it's more rod than custom.

2014 Moebius Kit Announcements
Brett Barrow replied to Art Anderson's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
They're farther along with the cars than with the pickup? If that's the case, then May/June is far more likely. My experience with Moebius has been that they themselves don't really know 100% for sure until the final ready-for-sale production kits are loaded onto the container ship and on their way to the US (and even then they can get held up in US Customs, supposedly that happened to the ProStar) . Personally I don't care, I'm in no hurry and understand the realities of production, but I have customers who have preorders in for their kits and would like to know when to expect them.
