  1. 99.999999% of model buyers want a HEMI (or don't care). "That thing got a 440?" wasn't used as the catchphrase for an ad campaign for a reason. Everybody knows about the HEMI. It's legendary, to even the general public. I assume you're bringing it up because of the Revell Hemi 'cuda. It's obvious since Revell left off some Hemi 'cuda-specific details from the body shell that they'll issue a non-Hemi version someday down the road (AAR, perhaps?).
  2. You're probably better off with a vector-based drawing program like Illustrator or Corel Draw. I've played around with a freeware program called Inkscape to get a feel for vector drawing. http://www.inkscape.org/en/ I'm sure the guys that actually draw decals will weigh in on the subject.
  3. I refer to the "showroom replicas" line of unassembled promos as DoAllSer because the promo contract was done directly with them while AMT was still in limbo during the RC2-Round2 transition. DoAllSer is one of several (5?) factories that are used to produce Round2's lines of products.
  4. If he's talking about dollars, it is pretty stagnant across the board - car, planes, armor, US companies, import companies, whatever. It's just that today we're selling fewer units but they're more expensive kits. You sell 10,000 at $20, 20,000 at $10, or 5,000 at $40, it's all the same. That's been the trend in the industry, fewer units but more advanced and thus more expensive kits. I just don't think Revell has gotten that much more advanced while they've certainly gotten more expensive. To be fair to them US car modelers have traditionally been the most reluctant segment to accept more advanced and thus more expensive kits - but we'll see how the Meng F-350 does to see if maybe that has changed. The times it was tried before (Accurate Miniatures' Can-Am McLarens and Corvette Grand Sports and Galaxie Ltd's 46 Chevy) didn't really have the sort of broad subject appeal that the F-350 has. Maybe they think by bucking the trend and going simpler (with the snap kits and by simplifying construction with the pre-paints), they'll attract new modelers, but I'd be remiss not to mention that pre-paints have been tried several times before and have never really panned out.
  5. Oven cleaner in the yellow can will strip it. Blue is the "fume free" variety.
  6. I think they've added an addendum sheet with the 302 on the 1/25th sheet, I don't know if they did with the 1/12th. Worse comes to worse you just use the 307 with the 2 from 327, the numbers aren't connected to each other. Actually just checked out my 25th scale sheet t, there's no addendum and the numbers are connected, but still wouldn't be too hard to cut and rearrange them, even easier in 12th scale, I'm sure.
  7. I like Fotki. Easy drag-n-drop uploader, resizes on upload. Select multiple photos and use the "show links" feature makes making posts with several photos easy.
  8. "Oops. My Bad. I thought it was the National Corvair Museum..." -Ralph Nader, seen wearing miner's helmet and carrying pick-axe.
  9. My rule - only buy airbrushes you can get parts for. I've owned pretty much all the major brands, I wouldn't recommend one over the other, just get one you can get parts for. You can get brand name airbrushes for around $50 or just a little more. Paasche H and VL, Badger 155, Iwata NEO series, etc...
  10. AMT, just reissued. Parts for chopped and stock height. Jimmy Flintstone makes a chopped 3-window if you just gotta have resin.
  11. In a nutshell, you put the Set down first, then lay the decal into it, the follow with the Sol to soften. Micro Set, even though it's relatively mild, can damage some of the synthetic hobby lacquers out there (Testors' especially) by leaving marks that look like water spots but are permanent. Since I mostly use hobby lacquers, I skip the Set and only use the Sol.
  12. Since area increases by the square of the multiplier (2 in this case, since 1/12 is 2x bigger than 1/24), that means a 1/12th scale car has 4 times the surface area (and would require 4 times the paint) of the same car in 1/24.
  13. Can't sell 'em. AMT gave the COT a shot. Couldn't sell 'em. Couldn't sell the last few years that Revell did, either. If they could sell well enough to turn a profit, somebody would tolerate the licensing fees and make kits.
  14. Probably these - Phoenix Toys' "PTX Mini Engine" line: http://phoenixtoys.com/Hobby-Gear/PTX%20Mini%20Engine They're basically just the engines out of their 1/24th diecasts with a display stand.
  15. Accurate's molds are not gone. Academy owns them now. I don't know if they plan on reissuing them anything soon, but the molds are not gone.
  16. Looks like no on the Tricolore decals (at least Tamiya isn't showing it with them). Since it's Tamiya, and they don't announce stuff until it's ready, I'd say it'll be out within the next month or two.
  17. Round2's done a bunch of "retro-box" Lindberg stuff in the last couple months, the only car I can think of is the 1/32 57 Chevy convertible. They're up and running under the new ownership. I think the Bullhorn T was already set in motion by J Lloyd and Round 2 stepped in with the cash to get it out.
  18. i snapped a few quick sprue pics, check them out here: http://public.fotki.com/barrowb98/revell-124-bmw-m3-d/ Note that there are only 4 "Hankook" tire decals on the large decal sheet, there is a small supplemental sheet tucked into the little "Safety Advice" sheet:
  19. Both kits are now in the states!!!! Just picked up the Tomczyk kit today. Now I kinda wish I had gotten the Spengler kit instead. Oh well - a good excuse to buy two!!! Will try to get some pics up tonight. Here's a link to a German language model board with a build thread. finished model - http://www.modellboard.net/index.php?topic=47655.0 in progress - http://www.modellboard.net/index.php?topic=47456.0
  20. Never done it, but I've heard of putting them in the dishwasher on the dry cycle. Also heard of putting them in a gas oven with just the heat from the pilot light. Never tried either, since I have a dehydrator. Buy a dehydrator.
  21. The stock number is 25002 and kit # 25001 was the 24th scale Citroen Fourgonnette, so I'd bet this is 24th, too. Sorry for the confusion, just passing along was what I was told.
  22. Ebbro don't mess around...
  23. I asked my boss who is in Nuremberg to check and that's what he told me, he could be wrong or mistyped, he actually had meetings with Ebbro and Heller this morning. Personally, I'd be surprised if it was actually 1/20. My first thought was that 1/20 was a typo.
