Because they were done right at the tail end of the RC2 era and didn't sell very well (being sold to dealers as a 4-pack instead of open stock didn't help). Some distributors still have stock of them, if they haven't blown them out on clearance yet.

Barrett Jackson Auction Begin Today!
Brett Barrow replied to Misha's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mecum Kissimmee is on TV, too. Started today on the Esquire Channel, then NBCSports next Friday and then brodcast NBC on the 26th. Barrett-Jackson is live on broadcast Fox tomorrow at 3:00 ET. Who would have ever thought that car auctions would be shown live on regular broadcast TV? -
2014 Revell 2nd Quarter Kit Announcements
Brett Barrow replied to gasman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Like I said in the other thread I'm just happy to see that a car manufacturer is willing to work with a model company while the car is still top secret. I don't think promo models were high on the priority list during the recession of the past few years. -
2015 Ford Mustang Snap Kit as a giveaway at NAIAS
Brett Barrow replied to carsntrucks4you's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
They did the Corvette promos from 2000-2007, then the Corvette/GM promo deal went to DoAllSer (now known as AMT's "Showroom Replica" line) I think most of their current Snap-tite line were designed intended to be sold as promos during this same time frame when they had the GM promo contract, but I've only seen the 63 Vette coupe, 57 Chevy, and Impala Police Car actually done up as pre-assembled promos. Anybody ever seen a promo version of the others (63 Corvette convertible, 77 Monte Carlo, 69 Camaro, 70 Chevelle, Camaro Concept)? -

2015 Ford Mustang Snap Kit as a giveaway at NAIAS
Brett Barrow replied to carsntrucks4you's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
At least it shows signs of factory assistance while the car was still top secret. Hasn't been too much of that lately. For the past few years Revell had to go and find an measure a 1:1 on their own dime if they wanted to make a model of it. If you want kits of new cars while they're still relatively new (making a new full-detail model kit is about a 2-year process from concept to shelves) then there has to be factory assistance before the car is public. -

Looks like something we'll see in a blister pack hanging next to the pre-painted Star Wars kits in the not-too-distant-future. I would expect a regular boxed Snap-Tite kit to be a little nicer than that. -
Yeah, you can blame the ready-to-run RR stuff getting better and better to the point where most RR'ers don't need to detail-up and repaint their stuff nowadays. The ones that do that I know are mostly using Scalecoat paint now. I'm really surprised RPM let it live as long as they did. I don't think it ever really recovered sales-wise from the Dio-Sol reformulation in the 90's. The only folks happy about that were the plastic modelers (since it was now styrene-safe) who weren't the target audience anyway. By then both Testors and Floquil were part of RPM and it was no use having two brands compete for the same market.

Regular Floquil enamel RR paint is gone once existing stocks are sold out. The CreateFX enamel line is just basic colors, none of the specialized RR colors . About a dozen or so of the Polly Scale RR acrylics are transferring to the 1/2 oz Acryl lineup, they're all generic colors like Grimy Black, RR Tie Brown, Concrete, etc... 1/25 Revell '70 Plymouth HEMI 'Cuda 2'n1
Brett Barrow replied to MachinistMark's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The 1:1 photo is very close to orthographic, it's a very good reference shot taken from far away with a long lens, which lessens any camera distortion. The model shot couldn't be worse, it's taken from up close with a very short lens which maximizes distortion. To be honest, that 1:1 picture comes to closest of any I've seen so for to matching the shape of the model. For a while I thought it was short in the overhangs and maybe a little thick through the middle vertically, but seeing that 1:1 shot makes me think they got closer than I thought at first. -

2014 Revell 2nd Quarter Kit Announcements
Brett Barrow replied to gasman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Just found out that the '58 Corvette will be similar in content to the original Pro-Modeler version, not the later and more modern-optioned '59 like I speculated earlier. -
There was a company called "The Last Detail" that did decal sheets of various underhood decals. They're now sold by "The Parts Box" in Australia - http://www.thepartsbox.com/

Those Wen-Mac/AMF Mustang promos are big, like 1/12th scale or so. They made an orange 66 notchback and the blue 67 fastback pictured. They also offered them in battery-powered and glow-fuel engined radio-controled versions (R/C versions were sold by Testors, IIRC) -
2014 Revell 2nd Quarter Kit Announcements

Different interiors year-to-year are pretty much a given on early Corvettes, especially the quad-light C1's and every C2. 58 seats have vertical pleats, 59 are horizontal. -

59 still had the factory FI and dual carb parts as well. If I had to guess at this early stage I'd predict that this new edition will have the modern stuff from the 59, as that would make it different from the 1st issue. And I forgot to mention it, the up tops were different - the 58 had a soft top and the 59 had a hard top. -
That's a big block in there! It is beautiful, regardless! Love that color combo.

2014 Revell 2nd Quarter Kit Announcements
Brett Barrow replied to gasman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The '58 had optional chrome reverse wheels w/ baby moons, the '59 had modern big-inch Torq-Thrusts. The '59 also added some more modern parts like a radiator w/ electric fan and a modern fuel injection system. The Sox & Martin will most likely be a one version kit, as that's typical for the Sox & Martin kits they done before. The Mustang would probably be a 2 in 1, with stock parts that are different from the first kit (Pony wheels, perhaps?) -
Pretty sure it's AMT's Z/28 due to the wheels/tires, short rear spoiler, and small-block 350. Great job!

Graft the side coves onto the '62 and you're most of the way to a '61. Lotsa great 61 vette drag cars, Mazmainian's M/SP and Larry Lombardo's "Buckshot" Junior Stocker instantly come to my mind.... -

Brett Barrow replied to gasman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The '59 Impala hardtop has a messed up roof, it's too flat across the top of the windshield. They got it right with the '60. You can put the '60 roof on the '59 to fix it. It's still a nice kit, but it's one of those things that once you see it, you can't unsee it... -
