Aston Martin Db4-1/25 Revell Monogram Update-May 14, 2012
simonr replied to simonr's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I hope that with the Tamiya's DBS release, more and more Aston show up. This is not a car brand you see every where, but, it's an ezquisite one. I've been studying it while I had been building the DB4 and had found they have an interesting models line up. Simón P. Rivera Torres -

This photo etched alternator bracket was used to make the connector to the whole assembly with the tube that comes from the lever. Already in place. I use THE DETAILER black ink to enhance the grooves in the guitar string. Plastic squares used to make the brake fluid line on the chassis. The caliper section. Simón P. Rivera Torres -
Aston Martin Db4-1/25 Revell Monogram Update-May 14, 2012
simonr replied to simonr's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The connector for the brake master cylinder. The hardest part to design..the mechanism that action the emergency cables by the handbrake lever. In the red circle section the part intended to replicate. I started using a guitar string that has the perfect scale look and grooves. Aluminum sheet again to replicate the connectors. More plastic using to make the other unions...ufff more, and more trying and hard work with so small parts! All the the components before painting. Simón P. Rivera Torres -

The bridge pipe assembly made out of cooper wire and tiny nuts. I used this picture in order to make the rear emergency system. Plastic sheets, wire and plastic rod used to make the system..uff..lots of work! Already in place along with the calipers. Aston Martin Db4-1/25 Revell Monogram Update-May 14, 2012
simonr replied to simonr's topic in WIP: Model Cars
In this update I will covering the plumbing of thet brake system under the car. I started working on a scrathbuild caliper, since the model comes just with a engraved over the plastic disc. I cutted it in order to used it as a template to make new ones from a plastic sheet. After I discarded the plastic disc, I picked up a Detail Master solid one which I chucked to my Dremel in order to have a better used look. After I did the Dremel treatment, this is how it looks in comparison to an untreated on. Looks more real. Using a plastic rod, I sliced it to make discs that will simulate the piston housing. Then, I primed them and painted them closely so the paint cover the crack between the caliper and this housing so it can be shown as just one part. Worked an aluminum sheet to make the caliper Some primer A silver paint base Finally the silver-gold color -

Thaks for yhis info. I had order from the Sprint 43 company and they have an awesome stock of wheels, I would like to see the same list in 1/24, it would be real interesting, because, from what I seen, nobody does a so long list of different wheels with their quality and in metal, like them. Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San
simonr replied to simonr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have news from the person that introduced this to me. Work's own online store says that the next production run is scheduled for April or May, so the usual Japanese stores should restock it by early summer. Simón P. Rivera Torres -

Guys, look for it at 6:40. This one works fine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=984KU6mwQ5s Another thing, look for it in the rainbowten.com site in the Hobby & Painting Tool section under the WORK brand items. This site functions a little bit different that other but it's a great one, besides, carries a LOT of stuff you guys can't get here. Simón P. Rivera Torres -

Yes, is not airbrushed. Is a powder you rub over the part. Like I said in the explanation, I got it from Rainbow Ten.com Simón P. Rivera Torres -

I used it for rubbing the powder...jejeje Simón P. Rivera Torres -
Remember this post?..I've started to play with some of this toys. With the build the Aston Martin I'm working with now, I used the Finisher's GP-1 Clear, the tools washer, the Finisher's 3 stage compound set, but, the most impressive item has been the Kosutte Gin San chroming powder. Here you can see the results and a comparison picture to Alclad's Crome. Kosutte Gin San Face to face to Alclads'Chrome. I already posted general info on thia in the Workbench section. Simón P. I'm always open and looking for new possibilities in modeling. Aroun 10 years ago, I war reading the site of a great Japanese model car modeler and I saw that when he painted the muffler used a not so common product, so, I decied to give it a shot. I started to look aound the different Japanese sites, but, the product wasn't available. From time to time I check the sites, but, with no succes. Around 7 monts ago I was placing an order in the Rainbow Ten site, when I saw that the item had changed the brand, but, with the same label. Also, I was checkin the great o Japanese modeling tutorials(highly recommended) in Youtube and I saw the product working...in live color! I didn't thought it twice to add this item to my order. This product was sitting down in my house until 2 weeks ago when I tried it for the first time. Since it comes in powder form, some caution has to be taken with it. I just took a tiny amount from the container's tread...and boila!!!!...it was magic in front of my eyes. Trying from Alclads, Model Masters metallizers, SNJ Aluinum products, etc, etc, I had never seen anything like this. OK,....I know, what's the name...KOSUTTE GIN SAN. Since it works with the same base like Alclad products, I airbrushed 3 spoons in order to make several trials. After the first one with the Kosutte, I tried Alclad, and by far, Alclad had no chance with it. The cost, a bottle of Alclad is around $8, this cost me $16 in Japan, but, a tiny amount that I took from the container's thread was enough to cover a spoon, there's no doubt that this will give you more chroming that Alclad. How it works?, very simple. Like Alclad, it needs a glossy black base. You just rub a cotton swab to the part covering it completely, After that, you rub it with a flannel, a rag, or with the favorite...an old t-shirt. The more you rub it, the more chrome effect you get. Another advantage that puts Alclad way back, can be clear coated(it doesnt needs it), taped and touched by fingers with no effect. You guys can see it working here in this Youtube video at 6:43 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=984KU6mwQ5s Here's a couple of pictures: In this first picture we saw a clouseup of the Kosutte treated spoon. Finally, Kosutte faces Alclad! OK, what you do with real small parts, what I did..There's some real small cotton swabs from Gunze Sangyo #GT 037 like the ones below, or the ones intended for electronics that has a long stick. This last ones can be found in computer or electronic related stores like Radio Shack. I prefer the ones from gunze because are more solid and small. Let me know your thoughts about this.
