simonr replied to simonr's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Ed: Thanks a lot for this great tip, but, the thing is that I had tried it in the past, but, this model in special comes with some PE connectors on the stacks to the fuel pump and it has to be clear tubing that I already filled with a mix of clear yellow and clear red for the gas tint inside the line. I a;ready sent for it, I just ha ev to wait for it and start it all over. Simón P. Rivera Torres -

Model Factory Hiro Alfa Romeo Tipo 33-April 13 Update
simonr replied to simonr's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well, this model doesn't need anythingelse that it's included in the kit, ideed, but, it will need some plumbing in the calipers area and over the transaxle. Also, aditional clear tubing, because, the included in the kit it's way to short for what its needed. These plumbing also included aditional nusts. I'm considering also substitute the plastic black braided line included, for more real Protech or Detail Master metal one. Thanks for watch the post. Simón P. Rivera Torres -

The rear suspention also almost completed, but, like it's front counterpart...it has to wait for the mailman. Now, everything together in a mockup for the very first time to see how it looks... Simón P. Rivera Torres -
Model Factory Hiro Alfa Romeo Tipo 33-April 13 Update
simonr replied to simonr's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Now already inside the cockpit, there's nothing like buffed metal for the true look. It has scuffed with a wire brush on my Dremel. The front suspention components are already mounted. It just need some caliper wiring and plumbing. It has to wait until some nuts and bolts arrive from the mail. Simón P. Rivera Torres -
Model Factory Hiro Alfa Romeo Tipo 33-April 13 Update
simonr replied to simonr's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Here again...Although it doesn't look a lot, it has take a lot of night until late hours. In this stage, I'll be taking care of the black colored parts and chassis detailing. To give certain variety, I'll be using different blacks, from acrylic, enamel, and lacquer. Here can be seen the great amount of parts that has been cleaned(white metal folks!). The amount of different black shades. Even the distribution cap wire has to be painted, because, it comes in raw metal shade. This tiny parts that has just milimeters of lenght are to be painted also in black. -
Very nice results on this classic...nice job! Simón P. Rivera Torres

Model Factory Hiro Alfa Romeo Tipo 33-April 13 Update
simonr replied to simonr's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The action has started, after a couple of nights most of the parts were cleaned, just waiting to separate the etched parts that will be painted in the the different shades of black. Here we can see also a clouse up of the parts with it's black color designation. The front suspention parts are test fitted in order to avoid any surprises at final stage after painting the parts. This is one of the cons with this kit, if it can be called this way, everything has to be test fittted. Here can be seen the front suspention partially mounted. The engine block with the transmition attached. At this stage, everything starts to take color. Simón P. Rivera Torres -
Model Factory Hiro has a serious name in the model making business, but, it's not until you open a box of their model and discover a true masterpiece inside. With this model I will have to take my magician hat and stick and make some magic to finish this impressive model car kit in about 3 weeks or less in order to be on time for next 2009 GSL XXII...let's see what happens and what's inside... With just see the outside of the box, you will stasr to think that somethin not common it's inside due to the look of this box, this is not the kind of box we are custom to see every day. When you opened the box I said: "This a mayor league model kit". Everything is perfectly separated..nothing less for a $200+ kit. How many parts!.... What a bunch of white metal parts!, over 100 and almost everyone has to be polished the desired look..I guess it will take forvever! Crisp and clear of imperfections body inside a solid plastic clear box that can be used to display a 1/43 or 1/28 model. Tires and wheel are also here. The body in one piece with the turned parts. The sectioned body. Real impressive photetch pad. Almost al the parts are free of the spure that hold the part, it's all peel and glue! Decal sheet and the vaccuformed bubble windshield. As impressive as the rest of the kit. Simón P. Rivera Torres

Hey Dave what a nice suprise see you here. First of all, thanks a lot for you words, I think now I'm more inspired than you!...jajaja It's not the first time someone ask me about this in this project, but, perhaps are the pictures, because I'm pretty sure you had done this before. I just used the fine tip of the airbrush to paint the parts that could over painted at the time I airbrush the whole thing like the doors frames, trunk and hood frames, quater panels lips, etc. This way I level the surface for when I shoot with the bigger tip at a higher presure. Basically, I'm painting the small sections of the body first and then the bigger sections to compensate, because, If I shoot everything together those small sections will be covered by paint. This way you also gives more paint to those parts that can be sanded down at the time of the buffing. I hope you saw it finished in the UNDER GLASS SECTION. Hope to see you again next month at GSL XXII! Simón P. Rivera Torres

Hi Men,...a question, Which one is that already built 917K?...Is this an old 1/32 MPC 917K? Nice project, though! Simón P. Rivera Torres

This is the Revell of Germany Alfa Romeo Giulia(circa 1965), and not the Giulietta like it says in the box. You guys can see it at the 2009 GSL XXII. Simón P. Rivera Torres

The trunk cover was also detailed. I losted the opener Alfa Romeo tiny decal, but, I will produce one with the computer. Wheels received its decals that were toped with some acrylic gloss clear in order to replicate the resin coat on them. Also, a brush coat of Future was applied to the tires in order to replicate the "Armor All" protectant look. The rear signal-brake lights combo needed a little more of work. Since it's a single clear part, I had to cover it's sides with bare metal, something that was a little bit tricky. After that, I brush detailed the reverse light with a base of lacker silver for the base and topped it with a custom "clear white" coat. The signal and brake lights as always with clear orange and red paint. A view of the finished rear. The Italian license plate was added. This pictures finish this project that has been a real nice experience. To me it's real challenging when you have to go to the "back to basics" days in order to detail without using high end photo-etch, lathe, or metal hardware add ons. The finished pictures are in the "Under Glass" sedction. Thanks for take from your time to follow this build up. Some of you guys will see it at the next 2009 GSL XXII. Simón P. Rivera Torres

In order to "close" the car I have to finish the doors. Here are a couple of shoots of the doors process. I add some bare metal to the looks at the sides of the doors and the body doors frame. Also to the glass frame. I would like to cut the clear plastic to show it with the glass down, but, since it will at a contes where it has to be a "pure" box stock, I had no other choice. After all, I like how it see with the whole glass. The inner panel was detailed with some chorme paint. I think the detail it's not bad for being a box stock model. How they looks in the model? to be continued... Simón P. Rivera Torres

Awesome....perfect!...I'm pretty sure that after this work we will see you playing with some more resin ones. Simón P. Rivera Torres
