  1. Hmmmmm. If the Fox morons are considering making Speed an all sports network that explains the kick boxing nonsense I saw being broadcast on there.I punched the station numbers on my remote to make sure I had the correct station. It'll be sad if they do go to that format.
  2. How can the "Revell super wagon" be made by AMT?
  3. That lawsuit happened during the Nixon administration. The kid wrote the President and it made national news, forcing Testors to rescind the price increase.
  4. Regarding the picture of the two "Cuda bodies-the white one looks to be the old Prudhomme funny car body(notice the two spoiler tabs on the deck lid) which would be very different from a street version kit body-the wheelbase is longer hence a longer body and that body has way too tall of a side profile. If you want an example of a very out of scale kit look at a Fujimi Honda Civic(1995 version). That thing is listed as a 1/24th scale model but if it's not AT LEAST 1/22nd scale I'm blind.
  5. I'll be there,mediocre models in hand.
  6. On another forum I saw pictures from someone who had acquired an older mobile home and had put it on his property and was remodeling the interior to be his model cave.Quite a project but it seemed to be the ideal setup-working space, bathroom, fridge, display cabinets.I'd do the same for my ideal model cave if I had the land, money, and time.
  7. The Styline kits had the putty in them and they had the thin sheets of sticky backed flocking or,in the case of the '62 Buick Special Wagon, sticky backed vinyl, either of which would be darn near impossible to pull up and reposition if you got it incorrectly placed the first time.
  8. FYI-the LT5 was built by Mercury Marine,not Lotus.
  9. Having to go on memory about this here at work I thought I remembered my 1/43rd Cougar(molded in dark blue) being a 1968 model.I was right! All my brain cells haven't atrophied yet! I also have the 63 and 68 Vettes and as unbuilts I have the 57 Chevy and the 36 Ford.
  10. I just saw an article about someone who replicated the 1959 LeMans 24 hour winning Aston Martin as a full scale kit parts tree.It was expected to go at auction for over $30K.And its a curbside!
  11. The parts hide in plain sight. However, with my aging eyes, it's not so plain. And I think that sometimes the parts get up and migrate to a different place just to play tricks on me. To counter that I sometimes will put the parts in trays that I've kept from take out meals. The trays are a nice depth and they have snap lids to prevent spillage should I accidently knock them over.
  12. For a color I'll suggest Tamiya TS-60 light pearl green.
  13. TS-13 is tricky stuff. It has to be applied either immediately after the final color coat(no more than about 10 minutes later) or you have to wait four weeks to apply it.This due to a difference in the solvent evaporation rates of the color and the clear coats. The only exception to this is if you've put their TS-65 pearl clear over your color. For some reason the TS-13 doesn't attack the TS-65 and the TS-65 doesn't attack the color coats.
  14. A lack of motivation because of being tired after work, too many other necessary things to do on the weekends, and a certain amount of pride to not do a totally ###### build just to say I completed something all conspire to slow me down.
  15. Packard died for many reasons though the bullet to the head was the ill fated merger of Packard with Studebaker.A smart idea on paper, the complete merger(which would have also included Nash and Hudson)was an attempt to set up a corporation with a lineup similar to General Motors(Nash/Rambler on the low end,Studebaker and Hudson in the middle, and Packard at the top). The big problem was that, for years, Studebaker had been giving rather generous concessions to the unions to keep the production lines moving and was in a bad financial state because of that policy.Packard merged with Studebaker only to find out later(because of the lack of due dilligence prior to the merger on the part of Packard)the depth of Studebaker's financial woes. BTW-Pontiac had killed of IT'S parent, the Oakland, back in about 1930.In the mid 1920s GM had set up junior divisions of it makes(except for Chevrolet)-Pontiac for Oakland,Viking for Oldsmobile,Marquette for Buick, and LaSalle for Cadillac. It was an ill-timed,unnecessary,move predicated on an expansion of Alfred Sloan's idea of "a car for purse and purpose".Sales were never strong for the Viking and Marquette(helped by the onset of the Great Depression)and they died after only a few model years. The LaSalle lived until 1940 when it became the Cadillac Model 61.The Pontiac, obviously, enjoyed the most success, staying alive for 83 model years.
  16. The first kit I built myself was an AMT '60 Buick hardtop that I received for Christmas 1959 so I was just short of 5 1/2 years old.Yes I screwed it up badly and, yes,it's been gone for years. My Dad had built me a some of the AMT '59 annuals before I got the '60 Buick and then built a few more for me after that.He built a Big T for me at Christmas 1962 and then a Big Deuce the following year (probably because of the high parts count of the big scale kits). But by then (probably sometime in 1961) I had started to build more on my own and by 1962,when I was 8,I built all the 1/25th stuff on my own(yes-still badly).
  17. Yep-a pre painted AMT '57 Chrysler 300.Found out the chassis was warped, then the front steering knuckle pins broke.I tried polishing the paint and burned through some edges. Finally the cat peed on it and I called it quits. His expressed his opinion of it more succinctly that I EVER could!
  18. I don't pay list price-EVER.I'll use coupons or look for clearance prices.I have a local connection to a HS owner in Pittsburgh. He'll send the kits to one of my fellow club members who sells them for him in this area-at 25% of list.I acquire the bulk of my Tamiya kits from a LHS when they put the slowest movers on 40% off clearance each January.
  19. If you plan a side trip to Daytona check for a hobby shop there a block west of the Speedway in a little strip mall on the same side of Speedway Boulevard as the track.Don't remember the name and don't know if it is still there(I visited there in 1996).
  20. I've used both Testor's and Tamiya clear. The Testor's sprays out thicker but is more forgiving over decals than Tamiya's lacquer.
  21. Use the NASCAR engine. Those kits are not good for much but parts now anyway.
  22. Looks like the wheels can be sourced (then modified as necessary) from the R/M Alternomad or the '59 Vette Street Machine.
  23. What's the recommended stripper for this stuff?I've got a body in Super Clean and the paint isn't coming off.
  24. A tip for those looking for some of these kits.Testors sold the Ferrari Dino and the Lamborghini 5000(the Walter Wolf edition) in their own boxes.Best part is that they're available cheaper than the Fujimi boxed versions-and it's the same kit!
