I think I'm going to try that trick for my '57 Ford and Chevy. Were both clears the same type of paint (i.e., both eamel, lacquer, acrylic), or did you mix-n-match? Charlie Larkin

Nice work on the body, Phillip. Ideas for the color yet? Charlie Larkin

A rarity in reality and in scale. Great work. Charlie Larkin

Mike, this is fantastic. A deft blend of old and new. And your usual high standard. Charlie Larkin

One more vote for a heritage-style build. Especially one as nice as this. It is amazing that with all the things we can do today with tooling design that we still have trouble getting basic shapes and dimensions right. To be sure, many of the kits of yore had their short-falls, too, but today there is no excuse. Regardless, this is very pleasing to the eye and the heritage of the product. Charlie Larkin

Criminy, I'm really striking out! Well...Motive, Rookie Blues and Major Crimes will keep me amused, along with The Glades and Longmire. Charlie Larkin -

That's unfortunate. It's a really good program. I hope a revseral of decision is made. Charlie Larkin -

Saw it, not bad. Is anyone picking it up next year? I haven't seen it advertised anywhere. Charlie Larkin -

Looks like it will be. I remember when NBC started it when ER ended, and I was happy to see that TNT picked it up later. Excellent writing, good performances, and very real. One of the best shows on TV. Charlie Larkin -
Metal Axle Madness!
charlie8575 replied to mrknowetall's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In all honesty, as much as I love the detail and (usual) accuracy of the newer releases, the heart and soul of this hobby, in a real sense, is these kits. Yes, some things could've been done better, or differently, but there is something to be said for a easy-to-build, not overly-fussy kit that looks like a nice completed model on the shelf. I like that idea. Charlie Larkin -
Rattle Cans - who still uses them?
charlie8575 replied to tiking's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I use cans for common colors or to make life easy. But...when I need to get a special color mixed, want to try something a little different, or simply feel like playing, I love my airbrush. It doesn't have to be expensive, either. I use a Paasche H, which is a bout $50. It's a nice, all metal airbrush that's very easy to use and cleans out easily. The compressor is easy, too. A pancake compressor, like used for a contractor, can be picked up at Harbor Freight or Craigslist for very short money. With Harbor's coupons, you can usually get one for under $75. Runs on 110 and you'll have a compressor for tires and other stuff, too. An airbrush isn't too expensive, in short. You can get a decent setup for well under $100 if you shop carefully and intelligently. Charlie Larkin -
Ah, this sounds very much like what we Armenians called "Boereg" (pronounced "bet-egg"). Let's see if we're working on the same idea. 3-5 leaves of Phyllo dough, filled with something, formed into a turnover and baked. Our boereg is usually made with cheese and/or spinach, although once in awhile you'll see either ground lamb or hamburg in it. Charlie Larkin

A question for those in law enforcement. I've been watching Southland every season (great show- Adam 12 meets NYPD Blue), and during the program, in the even of an injured officer, a request for an "RA unit" is made. I understand that, in essence, it's a paramedic/EMT, but what does the RA stand for? Thanks. Charlie Larkin

I've never heard of Red Owl- fictitious or more of a mid-west thing? That came out very nicely, Junior. What brand of markers did you use for the bricks? Those look good and I'd consider using them for my own builds. Charlie Larkin

A well-done, well-executed, and well-represented model of a difficult to represent, and very difficult in other respects, subject. Great work. Charlie Larkin

Lee, it's not only nice to see something so pedestrian- and this is as pedestrian as it gets, but to see it receive the attention it deserves. This is coming out beautifully. Rubber mat- what did you use, vinyl top material? Charlie Larkin

That's really coming out nicely. It looks RIGHT. GM should build this. Charlie Larkin

When I was in second grade, my parents were told I was sufficiently learning and possibly mentally-disabled, that I'd never see a high school diploma and if I could get a menial job, to be happy I did that. I wonder what those teachers would say if they saw me today, as I received my Master's in Education? And yes, those are my parents. Sometimes, I'm not sure if they believe it, either! Charlie Larkin

Second. There's plenty of wheels out there, Tyler. Keep your eyes open and something will crop up. If I may suggest, though. Rather than too strong a car for your first wheels, if you want something older, stick to something like Dart/Valiant/Nova/Falcon or similar with a six or small V8. You're still learning the nuances of driving and don't want something that'll get away from you too easily. And before you say "not enough," Clifford Performance and Offenshauser both make some bolt-on parts that'll perk a six right up and still give you good mileage and small V8s, with a good intake and exhasust, can have plenty of pep, and if tuned properly, will actually deliver a little better mileage. Very sorry to hear this. I've communicated with Lyle several times on various boards. I hope things get straightened out for him quickly. Charlie Larkin

I noticed the Hummer at the bottom of the cannister. I wonder if... A. It's intended for military modelers who really want to get into their project? B. It's re-packaged K-rations or something similar? Charlie Larkin

Interesting build. I like the idea of a Pontiac Engine Blue LS-1. As twisted as it sounds and would probably royally cheese off a lot of Chevy guys, I think it's pretty cool. Charlie Larkin

That is indeed coming out very nicely, Chris. Charlie Larkin
