  1. Thanks for the input Aaron - good to know.
  2. I say hats off to Moebious and Dave Metzner for showing their products at this stage of development. It probably takes courage to face the resulting frenzy but they seem to be not too proud to take action based on the potential customer's critique. Pity Revell and AMT don't do the same.
  3. Thanks a lot Highway, that's exactly the information I was after.
  4. .....the currently available 90s car, California Highway Patrol version. What's the paint finish like? The rest I know, having already built the original Ohio version.
  5. For my money, one of the best models ever posted to this forum. When the chassis was finished I thought if I ever build a chassis that realistic I won't go covering it up!
  6. Thanks for the info Art. Could it be that the transition from Acetate to ABS happened gradually? Last night on Ebay there were two AMT 1960 Plymouth Valiants - one with the usual warpage, the other perfectly straight.
  7. In 1981 I was 31 and hadn't built a model for 15 years. I was in the London Toy Museum and in the shop was a copy of Dennis Doty's then new book, The Complete Book Of Model Car Building. That book, with it's nostalgic look at 60s kits and clear, do-able how-to's was what got me started again. Particularly the section on BMF, which I'd never heard of, intrigued me. Since he provided their address, I ordered a bunch immediately and I've never looked back.
  8. Thanks Plowboy, thanks Gregg, much appreciated. So I guess I'll proceed with caution....
  9. Before I go ahead, does anybody want to warn me about this? I assume from the straightness of this model that AMT was no longer using acetate by 1961 but I don't want to find out the hard way. (By "purple pond" I mean Scale Finishes' paint stripper).
  10. Personally, not really. I like the feel and look of a quality magazine and can't get nearly as friendly with a laptop. (Mind you I'm 61). The cost doesn't strike me as prohibitive. German model mags don't cost significantly less (and anyway don't have the US-car bias I need). My financial situation will force me to drop a subscrition or two next year but I'll renew MCM - because it's beautifully done. That makes it good value, even in Europe. As for the lateness, like I said, I never even noticed before this thread.
  11. Years ago, when I still lived in New Zealand, I was hitch-hiking and was picked up by a guy whose whole left leg was in a plaster cast. He was using a long stick to work the clutch......
  12. I guess my post could read as a complaint but it was meant as an observation - sorry if it wrankled a bit. I can well understand the logistics of getting a low-volume publication to far flung places like Switzerland. The fact is I'd never noticed before that MCM arrived late and it doesn't/won't bother me in the slightest. It's not like it's a newspaper that's worthless the next day. On the contrary, I collect and treasure every copy - the quality, particularly of the photography and design (but even the grade of paper) outclasses anything else I get in the mail.
  13. I live in Switzerland and got issue No.160 yesterday. Didn't realize we were so far away over here.
  14. I also sometimes get up, go into the music room, grab a guitar...... and throw that at the wall!!!
  15. Yes, I sometimes get very angry making models. Either at my own clumsiness or the stupid design of a model where nothing fits. I've never actually thrown one at the wall, but I've been very close and have ritually binned a few that obviously were never intended to be assembled. I know that walking away from it is smart but it's not always an option in the heat of the battle. I admit, though that I'm too easily angered. For example the suggestion that I'm "obviously doing something wrong", that I need "counselling" or should "try another hobby" would already irritate me slightly. Making model cars is also for unbalanced and irrational psychos like me! Peter Kennedy
