I replied in my own Garlits thread but I'll echo it here as well bigwrench. BY ALL MEANS BRO! Please take as many pix as you can. I'm in dire need of some for the JJ car as well as SR 1-R. Any and all are welcomed my friend. If I can do ANYTHING for you, please don't hesitate to ask. Bob F

Starting to look like something now. Where's your nemesis' build? Is he just going to spring it on us fully realized or will there be a WIP type photo montage? Inquiring minds and all.. Bob F
-
Heck Yeah we want pix! As many as you can rustle up. If I had to pick I'd say the JJ car and the SR 1-R [i'm being selfish here but he did ask what I wanted]. Is the JJ car still there? If so, I would like detail pix of that [fuel, brake, drivers area, body tin from the inside]. you know, stuff we could all use to make a seriously accurate JJ car. I have a 1/16 in the wings and have been buying things like fuel lines and fittings and other goodies. I would like to build THE most accurate replica out there and pix would go a LOOOOOONG way to achieving that. That said, is there anything I could do for you in the means of a barter? A way of thanking you... Please let us all know and many thanks for the offer. PS: ANY Garlits car pictures [detailed] are welcome here. Bob F

IS IT ME? or are people crazy
Dragline replied to oldman23's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I got a nice chunk of change for a JJ Vega body I sold on eBay 5 years ago. I had somehow lost the rest of the kit [where do these things go???] but the body was done and it came out rather sweet. It was complete and clearcoated and two guys from Oshkosh [not sure about that, but it sounds funny] fought over it. Final sale price floored me. I was happy to send it honestly. That body may be on some guys slot drag car right this moment tearing up the track... When you speak of a "pure" market, the buyers set the price. It's whatever someones willing to pay. Some people will have no truck with buying, painting and all that, when they can buy it already done by someone who did a great job. Then, they look cool and have a great item that they themselves would never have put the time into. This is why diecasts do well IMO. Bob F -
Thanks oldman. I'm going to order a set Sat morn. Looks like it'll be 80's degrees here in Baltimore so I'm skating all day. Just got my 40" Pocket Pistols slalom deck all set up so I'm hitting the asphalt all day. I have made some progress with my build and will post new pics in a day or so. You all know how it can be, just not feelin it sometimes. Been like that for at least a week but I worked on it tonight but mostly things that will be attached later. I have the pump and fuel lines mocked up and they look good so that is possibly next although the scratch built clutch and hand controls are beckoning to be fastened. I need to spray the interior tin Metalizer titanium. Perhaps that's what I'll do later tonight. I'm also replacing that blower belt. I cringe every time I look at it now. TOOOOOOOO thick. Bob F OH! Thanks for the decal offer, but as you can see I'm now past that. Most appreciated though.

It is indeed a clearcoat of some kind, but I submit this: Aren't you dechroming to remove the parting lines? In my experience [i'm new to Alclad I admit], the point of dechroming is to remove unsightly and unrealistic parting lines. So, since you will be sanding the item, it makes sense to reseal it afterward. A glossy finish is mandatory unless you are going so another type of look/finish. Just an observation. Bob F

Awesome paint dude. PSyChoDEliC like! See, now I have to get a hauler for one of my Funny's. Sure, I'm jealous..... I wonder what Garlits used? I'll bet it was an enclosed trailer...................... Nice. Bob F

Super tight....... Those old Revell kits are still great. I have a couple in the queue. Got a Snake Vega and a Snowman Charger. Now, I just need to quit my job and build cars all day. I can dream........................ Well done. Bob F

Great stuff seeds. You should get lots of comments. Nice ink work. Bob

I spent an hour this morning looking at the build pictures while having my coffee and I am completely in awe. I'll spare you the hyperbole and just say BRAVO! A triumph of patience and engineering. Humbling indeed. Dragline

Not sure of the kit but I want one! Post Logghe, say mid/late 70's! Halibrand rear, 2 speed tranny. Where did you get it? Dragline

Gourgeosity! [if that's a word, which it isn't]. I love F1 [they take rights as well as lefts]. This is coming from a 1320 guy.......... Bravo!!! Dragline

Let's see some pix man. I think Slixx has this set if I'm not mistaken... I have the Reher Morrison and Iaconio cars in my closet. I may build them down the road. Let's see the progress you've made. Bob F

How interesting that the night I decide to add a couple of progress shots I get a comment. Lotsa looky-loo's but no real critique. I can take it, good or ill! Be that as it may I indeed have a couple new shots and I will take your wheel placement ideas under advisement. I was LOLing when I read it. I wasn't sure where it was going till I scrolled down....... I have installed a starter bracket and throttle in this pic. This stuff is soooooo tiny I nearly lost it 1/2 a dozen times. I pray it can be seen. Got the tins cleared so I carefully mocked em up to see how it'll look. I now have to button up some of the controls [not in shot] and finish the Alcladding. I have to shoot the interior tin Metalizer Alum which is coming in a few days. then it's time to route some control lines and get the fuel delivery [including pump] finished so i can install my premade AN fittings. I'm thinking a Tom Daniel box stock build for my next so my eyes will have a vacation. Bob F

Have You Guys Seen These?!
Dragline replied to mikelo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great background music and super weathering on all the cars. Oddly enough, the car with the bodies in it was the worst of the lot IMHO. It took dilligence and vision to create such a boneyard, and until you have tackled such a project I'd hesititate to be critical. EPIC might be to grand a word but I happen to think it is worthy of a display of this scale [no pun]. It also [if you must] be judged on its own merits. To say a fully detailed shiny car is more difficult might not neccesarily diminish this effort, but it's not apples to apples and the work involved can never be known till any one of us has taken such a task on. BRAVO to Mr MO, whomever you might be. My .02 Bob F -
Very tight build. The mixture of old and new works well. The color is outstanding. Clever how you blacked out the chrome as well. Well done indeed. Muy Bein Caballero Dragline

You can bet I will Doc. Thanks for the encouragement. Bob

Some update pix here. As can be seen I've installed [hard to see frankly], the port injection and block as well as painted the expansion tank lines. A decent look at the primary injection lines as well. Here I finally got around to installing spark plug boots and I installed a set of turned aluminum breathers. The kit breathers are more correct, but were murder to clean up and these were just laying around in their package sooooo.... I built another fuel block for the primary injection of a more realistic proportion and installed header gussets to each bank. Tins are painted and decaled awaiting clearcoat. Frankly, the decals are not very crisp but they are all I can find. Here we can see the brake lever and it's plumbing. I plan on building ALL controls, so throttle, clutch, chute and fuel shotoffs are next on the list. Comments are welcomed of course. I think my pix are clearer as well which is a good thing. I'm also going to have another go at those dots on the Mag. just not quite right. Fuel pump is on deck as well as PE throttle bits. I have a PE starter bracket and wonder if it should be against the blower case or held out on rods. Either way, it should be fun replicating all that stuff in the coming sessions at the workbench Bob F Dragline

I have a couple of old revell chopper kits I am gonna bring to life but I must say this. Make it NASTY!!! I am assuming you'll get to the nasty finish down the road so I'll save comment for then. Please make it like the photo. Gritty and unkempt. That's the only way it'll work for me personally. The paint through the mask is quite sexy. OH! And it is a rigid............. Yours is not.. Make that happen as well. Only a rigid commands respect. Keep it up.

Put the BLOODY wheels on it! Nice build......................... Bob F Dragline

That's good stuff there RR. I saw your stuff on eBay and almost pulled the trigger when I got the second set of decals. You have some stuff up I'll prob get soon. I didn't have any probs with the parting lines as can be seen, just those pesky decals. I'm certain the Slixx ones will be fine. Not knocking yours as they look excellent indeed. I plan on building a full detail version of at least the Mongoose after I finish my Garlits Swamp Rat 1R project I am working on. Update pix on that soon as well fellas. I got the primary and port injection done. Put plug boots and several other additional details as well. Pix of those soon. Bob F

Awesome David!!!! Big Daddy is truly a softy it seems. I for one will use these pix for my builds and they are greatly appreciated. The kit came out great BTW. I haven't had opportunity to say so, so I'll do that now. Gotta make my way down to Ocala again some day. No Swamp Rat 1R??? Wonder where it is??? Bob Frias Dragline -
